The city of Oscoda is asking the state for a $500,000 grant with the city paying $250,000 on top of that for a pedestrian/fishing pier to be built at the city beach, straight out from the bath house, about a mile north of the mouth.

Calling it a fishing pier is a streach. why don't they spend a lot less money and improve the access at the mouth of the AuSable. Opening the restrooms that are already there instead of an outhouse would be an improvment.

I totally agree with you ! Maybe even elbow the south pier and extend it to the south.

its because the pier up their isnt actually in oscoda is in ausable twp. oscoda dosnt start till after u pass the ausable inn...... but what i was told is that both towns pay for the up keep at the pier.. so oscoda wants to have its own "pier" thie was brough up in the oscoda press last feb if i recall

Maybe they could get with Ausable Twp. and split the cost of improving what they already have. I believe they are mistaken if they think tourism will grow drastically because they have a pier.

My vote is use the money to reattach the 4x4's and chains on the north pier. That'd get me to spend my tourist money right about now.

Guys the 4x6's are back up,they must have been replaced by the fish fairy. However they are now dredging the river from the bridge to the mouth, should take about a week.

It would be nice to have a fish cleaning station then another pier.

It's probably one of the Condo owners who doesn't like the "riff-raff" walking past his tin-can trailer. How do you guys get around there anyway?

The guys who put them back up live in the trailer park and we have permission to park in it (lot of good that does us now) and haven't had a single problem with any of the residents so we don't think that's the case but we believe who ever it is, is a local. There are boat guys who don't like it when there are people out there, you know the one's who own the lake. There was an incident between the guy who replaced them and a boat earlier this year and the last thing the guy in the boat said was "I'll fix you pier guys", two days later they were gone, by now he's got the makings for a nice front porch with the 4x6's he's got.(to the person removing the boards) If you are a lurker on this site and your nuts eventually drop and you become a man and would like to meet up face to face just let me know, we could even meet after dark since that seems to be when your the bravest!!! and as far as the nuts dropping, don't feel ashamed it just takes longer for some than others I'm sure it will happen for you someday and although you will still have a teeny, tiny little tool you will always be a big tool in my book.

The best way to make em drop is to hook em with a spoon and give it one hell of a rip. :yikes:  That will be the last time he gives you guys crap. Good luck fight the biggest foul hooked fish ever.

Man Shawn, Oscoda sounds more interesting then normal this year, makes me wish I still lived on the eastside:D! If it is indeed a boater, he's just being an idiot. There are no longer pier/boat incidents anymore. ****, there isn't even boat to boat incidents anymore, man I miss the "old" salmon season over there:D;)!
