Where is everyone? How do you go about putting our picture and team name in the sig? I really wanted to do some scouting this weekend, I wish it would rain during the week rather than every freakin weekend.

I'm sick of all the rain as well, but I am glad it rained this weekend, I had to attend a wedding Saturday and a Bday Sunday and really didnt want to go. I Can barely wait till Thursday woo hoo early seasons rock.

I was able to get out yesterday morning for awhile....didn't get too wet. My food plots are looking really nice and by the looks of the tracks in them....they are getting some deer traffic. Wasn't able to mess with any stands with the rain but I did pick out 3 trees to hang stands in. Was able to get the 5th whl up there and set for the season so except for a little stand work I'm about ready for season.

I got out Friday and hung a new stand. Spent about $800 dollars at Cabelas this weekend taking full advantage of the gift card. Picked up a new climber , Safety vest/harness, boots, meat grinder and a digital smoker. I think I'm ready for the season to get under way now.

Just placed an order with Atsko, got the UV killer and sport wash. I'll give it a try this year...will see. Going to bow shoot this evening, then heading over to my turkey spot, my buddy spotted some birds this morning and said there was a white/black zebra looking one:rolleyes:, so I have to see this for my self.

You should be all set!

I spent the whole weekend making the sweetest "Ghillie" suit ever. I have this shrubby, grassy, kinda swampy 30 acre portion of my property where this big boy has been hanging for two years now. I have never seen him outside that area. I know he comes out, but not during day light hours. So the plan is to wait in his bedroom for his return in the morning. "Pay no attention to that bush Mr. Buck!!!!". I am geeked to smack one from the ground. If anyone has any suggestions Im open. Been a long time since Ive got down out of the tree with a bow.

Just have been real busy with a lot of church business. Also have been working adjusting curriculum for my boy's. (We homeschool.)

My foodplots look great though and are showing lots of activity. Need to move one stand and should be set. Will try to get one more antlerless permit this Wed. We have way to many deer here. I planted 2 1/2 acres of corn for my pigs and it was just annihalated by the deer. I'm getting some payback.;)

Went out last night to put a lock on my treestand around 5:30. Kicked up a spike on the way out to the stand. Once up on stand I could see 9 deer in the next feild over. Mostly does n fawns. Looks like 2 or 3 may have been small racked bucks. About 200 yards off with no binocs couldnt tell for sure. I may have to sneak over there with my climber this Oct. Saw 16 deer total while out last night. Time to let those woods rest till opening day.

On Saturday I was in my stand, almost falling asleep I awoke suddenly (thought I was falling ). Then I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, it was a blur what ever it was. It was moving very fast directly towards me, at the last second it swerved and landed on a branch.... it’s a hawk! It was pretty cool to be no more then 3' away from a hawk, it looked to be a cooper but it had more feathers on the legs then coopers do, but it didn't have red on the tail? After sitting there for a few minutes it start making sounds at me. It was looking at me with its head turned to one side, now knowing that’s what my dog does right before he charges somthing, I got ready to hit this bird with the butt of my gun if it was indeed coming my way. Sure enough it hops off the branch:yikes: and tries to land on my head, not liking this idea, I stuck the butt of my gun in the air, he veered off into the woods.. Thought it was pretty neat. just wanted to share.

it doesn't sound like a property line issue. Maybe they have had stuff stolen in the past and they are just trying to prevent it from happening again. Granted, not the best way of doing it.... We have a 40acre piece of state land that is land locked by us and we are pretty pretective of it. Although, we don't make threats!

I was out, it was real windy and raining. Didn't see a thing! I am in class now, elected to go to class since it is so windy and the best PM spot I have is fairly wind exposed. I will be out for a 6 hour afternoon sit tommarrow I think. I didn't see any signs of anyone hunting around me, but it's all private. I am going to set another stand tommarrow, that will make 4 erected stands and two climber spots for around here, that's enough considering I bow hunt 3 or 4 other areas and will have to set stuff when I get there too.

Guy's I sure wish I could get out but I've got my heating system ripped apart in my house. I'm changing over from a wood furnace in the basement to an outside wood boiler. I've been working all week on it and probably won't be done until Saturday. Maybe I'll get to hunt Sunday....:( On another note though, my 12 year old son and I went out for the youth hunt. We saw 30 deer last Saturday he didn't see anything he wanted to shoot, then Sunday morning he missed a cake shot on a doe (30 Yards):dizzy: Sunday afternoon we were going out and our large sow had busted out of her pen and also freed three 100 pound pigs along the way. It took us over an hour to get them all back in their respective pens needless to say no hunting Sunday afternoon.

Finally got out to hunt Saturday. Saw 12 deer 10 does and fawns and 2 antlered bucks. One was definitely a shooter. Heck if one of the does would have given me an opportunity I would have taken her. Then Sunday afternoon I hunted, believe it or not, in my dads yard. (He has several black cherry trees dropping cherries in his yard.) Saw 4, nothing close enough though for any shot opportunities. One of those does will slip up though and I will nail it. I want some payback for all the damage to my crops this year.:evilsmile

Not sure what the weekend will bring. Was supposed to head to bow camp, but instead I might be doing the canada duck thing again. My hunting here around marquette has really sucked. I have passed one, yes ONE deer all season. Bait (in the two spots I bait) is getting railed nightly, but I haven't baited in a week. I am going to sneak out tonight, can't decide which spot, neither one seems to be worth a damn so far!? This isn't normal for me, last year, and the previous couple years, I would typically see 20 deer a night for the first 3-5 sits. Hope the weather gets them moving a bit. Wish me luck, and lend some encouragement!

and he also got a pass the next two nites along with
a few other 1.5 yr olds. He came in again friday night
with 5 minutes of light left and I decided to let him have
it. If nothing else I've got meat in the freezer. Dont
laugh too hard but here's a pic. That Spitfire Pro did a

The weather did not co operate, rained everyday, high winds at times, three hail storms on sunday! I didn't see any bucks, which surprised me a little. In total I saw 11 does, one of which came home with me. Sunday afternoon was really rough weather, but the wind was right for one of the stands I hung friday, so I braved the elements. Headed for the spot at about 4'oclock. I was not in the stand for more than 20 minutes total when this doe came walking by, she was skirting the edge of a swamp. I stood and turned toward the tree shooting on the right side. I stopped her with a "BAP" from my mouth and let the arrow fly. Connected right where I would have hoped. Arrow was beautifull lung blood. After letting her sit for an hour I returned with help to search. NO blood trail anywhere. I was getting really nervous when someone helping me yelled "found it" about 80 yards into the swamp. The shot was about as perfect as I have ever seen, she just didn't bleed for some reason. Either way I was happy to have recovered her.

Way to go guy's. I plan on going out tonight and hunting hard from here on out. Sam is that a PSE Nova I see there. Used to hunt with one of those myself. Great bow for the money. It obviously gets the job done.:D

I have probably hunted the least of any season ever this year. Thats because of my boy's going out so much and my wife now working night's. When I take the boy's out I don't hunt. Just the tag along. That's about to change, they can come but Dad's hunting now.;) Last time I hunted with my 11 year old son Noah, we had several deer he or I for that matter (If I would have brought my bow.) should/could have shot but he tried to draw on a spike like Fishin shot when he had a doe clearly looking right at him. He learned a tough lesson that night.

He will get another crack at one before the gun opener hopefully so will I.

Yeah that is a Nova V4. I was about to get rid of it a couple times, but I totally ovehauled it last year, new strings and cables, new rest, new arrows, even new limbs. It still shoots as good as the day it was new, like 9 years ago. There is more arrow drop than I would like. but for now it's doing the trick. I am in hunt like crazy mode from now until rifle starts..excpet for the weekend of the 6th or whatever it is, fishing tournament that weekend.

Congrats you guys....

I also scored on a doe on Sunday evening....I was up to the property Sunday through yesterday afternoon. All kinds of crazy weather!!!! Sleet, rain, wind, sunshine, warm, cold!!!! I'll try to post a pic tonight, hopefully I won't have a problem with the photo, no bow in it. I was up north by myself so I didn't get the photo taken until I got home, but I forgot and left the bow at camp because I will be back up on the weekend and then 3 days next week before I leave for Canada. I'll get the pic up soon.... Hope to score on a buck yet before I leave next Friday!!!

Looks like the team is click'in!! Congrats to all! By my estimate that puts us in 6th place, only a ten point out of 1st. I will see what I can do. Bring on November!

Nice shot Sam. What side was the tongue sticking out?;)

I am impressed, your right, the tounge was sticking out. How do you know? All good shots do that?
I don't know if I scored this doe on the board, do I do that? or is it the team leader that does?
Going to hunt hard this weekend, up here in the UP. Although the hunting here has sucked so far. I am going to move a stand or two, and probably.....**gulp** bait! there I said it!

I was watching a hunting show this morning, to which a topic that came up that i really never gave much thought to but. They were bowhunting and shot a deer and when they recovered the deer, the host said that the tongue always hangs out on the exit hole side of the deer !

Just curious on what you guys think ....True/False
This is why I asked about the tongue.

As far as scoring your deer. Just post the picture in the 2008 MS Deer Hunting Contest Photo Entry thread. With requested info and the scor is periodicly updated.

Good luck to whomever gets out this weekend guys.

The woods were busy this morning. Saw wide rack something. He was on a full sprint spooked by something around 8 this morning. Stopped momentarily about 50 yrd out with a grunt for a few seconds then he took off again. Had shot oppurtunities on a small six and three pt today, but alas im left with my restricted tag and a couple antlerless tags. Saw 5 buck total this AM 2 does. No other shot ops. I'll be sitting allday Saturday.

A 7pt and 2 does bedded down about 80 yrds out from my stand around 10:30 they didnt get up till about 3:30 and start browse around and work very slowly towards my stand till around 4:15 when three guy came busting through with there climber on back and pushed those 3 deer past me about 40mph. Didnt see any midday movement. It looks like I'm outta the woods untill the weekend now.

Finally got out tonight after many (too many) days without hunting. I was beginning to think there was some sort of conspiracy about keeping me out of the woods. I wasn't to picky so don't rag on me to hard. She will be good eating. Will try to post pic later.

A doe down is a doe down. Congrats on a fine shot.

I wish I could get a doe to give me a shot. Yearling buck after yearling buck for me. Got a couple bigger boys running around. Almost had a nice 10 in range Friday night. He just wouldn't commit to coming in.

Wow....no post since the 10th? What have you guys been doing while I was gone? I hope out hunting.

I scored on a 7pt on 11/6 on my property in Omer. I'll get a pic up maybe tomorrow along with the doe I shot a couple weeks ago. Both with a bow ofcourse. Just got back from Canada on Sunday...Tough hunting up there this year, lots of water and nothing frozen. Very hard to get around, could only access about 20% of the hunting area. Anyhow I did get lucky on 11/14. Shot a 9pt....well 10 pt(he broke off his G2 on the left side) Not a huge one but respectable. 19in inside spread, gross score 125, would have been 132 if he hadn't broke off the G2. Nice buck.... I'll get that one up on here also.

Have been out almost every day no shooters though. Passed on a couple of spikes. Shot a doe on the opener and one on Sunday. My son shot one Monday morning so I'll be cutting meat tomorrow, my pole building is a little crowded.;) Hoping maybe to see the big one later.

Deer Camp in the north eastern lower was a great success. The take for our camp of 24 guys on 2000 acres was lower than usual, 5 bucks taken, and some does. However myself and my hunting buddy both took deer. He took his on the afternoon of the first day, just a few hundred yards from me. I saw a decent buck on the first day, but he was moving and never offered a shot. The second day my buddy and I elected to sit together in a different location all together, in hopes of videoing a shot. We hiked the mile back into the river bottom blind, which had gone un-hunted the opening day. The morning was slow, spotting only one small buck and a coyote. I was awaken from an afternoon snooze by my buddy tapping me on the knee, deer deer, he said. The deer was crossing left to right through the shootout visible in the window I was sleeping leaning up against. I was in a nappy fog through the whole thing really. The deer was moving, although not ultra-quckly. With the cramped situation, the shot was difficult to get off. I didn't really get to mount the 308 rifle to my shoulder, and the window of the blind was leaning open against my body. I stopped the brute with a "BAP BAP", settled in and took the shot. It was snowing hard at 2:08 when I touched the shot off. To be honest I wasn't 100% sure of the shot, since it was such an akward position to begin with. A short track eased my nerves when I found a top of the heart and both lung shot buck piled up 40 yards from where I shot him. We were very pleased and it was audible for miles I am sure. Two years in a row now, Double Bang my buddy and I have scored. Sadly, the video didn't turn out, the camera was over my head, and my buddy couldn't get the deer in the frame, I didn't know this until after I pulled the trigger. Our rule is dead deer first, video second, so we proceeded according to protocall.

He is an 8 pt.. looks like a nine, but one of the brow tines isn't legal I don't think anyway. Fairly certain he is 3.5, we don't grow them like they do in the south. The drag out was really something. We ended up dragging the deer about .6 of a mile through nasty swamp to the lake, and getting a boat to take the deer back to camp. Dragging him out the way we came in would have made a mile plus drag through big hills, nasty wet swamp and aspen tangles. To say the least it was a fantastic hunt. Moral of the story? HUNT ALL DAY!!

The double bang photo, my buddy mistook that 4pt for an 8, we are an 8pt or better camp

On the way out for the last time, I counted 15 rubs and just about as many scrapes, I love that spot!
