With that up and down weather last winter i was wondering about people going thru the ice on there snowmachines or atvs, What are your storys. I am 55 years old and fished for a long time but last winter i broke thru with my snowmobile luckily i was going fast enough i skimmed to the other side. I had a grin from ear to ear , feel like i just survived a plane crash. This was at Mitchells bay

:coolgleam I was coming off the ice, near the boat launch, and two guys had just climbed out of the water where their atv went through in five feet of water. A drainage ditch comes in on that side of the launch and erodes the ice from underneath. They put a rope on it, somehow, and pulled it out with a pickup, but destroyed the ice on that side of the launch with the truck and the atv. :fish:

Never on a machine but when I was a kid my brothers and me would break the ice in about knee deep water until one of us went through, usually it worked out to where my youngest brother broke through:evil:. After the hole was broke we could catch all the smelt that were swimming under the ice.

Knock on wood, I haven't dropped all the way in yet. Half way in a couple times.
First time came upon open water, could not stop in time, skidded sideways and put 2 tires in sideways. I broke my own rules when that happened, traveling too fast at dark, traveling too close to shore (always trouble)
2nd time, dropped rear of machine in expansion crack, crossed crack at idle (never a good idea)
