Just a little pep talk running up to the first weekend of taggin time. Shoot straight and tread lightly in the woods.
On our ground we've elected not to participate in the early doe season. We want to leave as many hotties as possible around as "BOY TOYS".:evilsmile We'll gather freezer fillers after the rut.:D
Good luck to those who are hunting the early doe.

Your logo is the right size.

Yours is too big.

Please fix.

I have a feeling you will be the first to score points for the team. Please check the rules to make sure that you jump through the appropriate hoops to score us some points (while you score some early venny).
GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey, I let you guys down, I didnt mean to.
I am in Grand Rapids right now at a campus for one week getting training for work.
But last sat. night I popped a doe, got her home, gutted and skinned her, and put her in the cooker with ice FAST!! In doing all that I forgot to take a picture, I guess I was worried about getting her on ice quick. Please forgive me!! I will make it up! promise.

So here are the only pictures I have, enjoy.

It had bacon on top, with brown sugar/butter glazing, AWESOME! also had salmon and ribzzz. The doe taste like roast beef for sure.
I will get my sig. line changed later, when I get back home.

Sorry I haven't been on lately but my work computer wouldn't let me in. I am so geeked for Oct. 1st it's crazy.
I think with this no baiting law in effect you will see who the real hunters, I am sure that will be our team on top :D. Good luck to all and shoot straight.

worked all weekend on the final touches. Moved 1 stand about 100 yds, set 3 new stands and cleared lanes on 3 climber trees. This gives us 15 stands on about 200 acres. I am officially SET! Donuts with dad's on Wednesday morning was some poor planning on the part of the school system but I will be dad before buckslayer! The afternoon is all mine. 8-points or better till I don't know when.
MOSSBERG, have you sent your pm to those that need it for the OS vs MS contest? My dad is in Ohio this weekend and Sat. night saw a monster 8. Watched it for 35 min. at 80 yards. He's out there again tonight hoping for a crack at him.
Good luck to everyone. Remember to get the photos and jump through the proper hoops to get solid points for TEAM TAG-N-BAG!!!:coolgleam

Well I got out last night, and as I was walking down the trail I spoked one up(cound't tell what it was though), it crossed the creek and I hurried to get to my stand which was only about 20 more yards. So I got up in the stand got ready and made a few doe grunts with my mouth and about 15 min. later here he came back crossing the creek turned out to be a little button buck. He came within 25 yards of me, so I just sat there and watched him. Then he wandered off. Later I was watching and out the corner of my eye I see this huge frikin bird fly right pass me it landed about 15 yards from me, turns out to be a huge owl. I watched him and then he flew into a branch right next to me about an arrows lenght away, scared the hell out of me ( those things have some huge claws) :yikes:. All in all great opening night.

Good luck boy's

the 70 yard shot at the "dagger boy" spike! (Kidding). Really did see the spiker.
A buddy had a pretty nice 7 pt about 6 feet from the base of his tree but he couldn't get a shot. Got him on trail cam.
Good night to be out, wind could have been a little less breezy though.
Deer are SERIOUSLY hitting the white oaks on our place. Will be keying on them this weekend for sure, just a heads up to TEAM TAG-N-BAG.

I finally got out to go bowhunting last night for the first time this year!
I seen around 15 deer on the neighbors property about 300 yards away, one potential shooter buck. They never did get close enough for me to get a good look at them.

Then later I saw about 7 does and fawns, Then just before dark, as I was getting ready to head down out of my treestand, I seen a spike buck walk right underneath of me. He actually caught me off guard! A good reminder for when his bigger brother shows up!!

And finally, I did get down at dusk, I could no longer see my pin. I walked maybe 5 steps and seen a doe running right for me across the hayfield, so I crouched down and waited. That doe got within 10 yards of me, she stopped and looked, then stomped a couple times, then walked into the woods. Camo must be workin good!
That was just iceing on the cake for a great afternoon!!

Deer moved for me this weekend. 22 seen in all. 1 small five point and a very lucky busted up buck. Should of been an eight, but missing one whole side, and G1,G2 on the other side. Sure would like to see the deer that busted this one up. Heading for the Westend of the UP on Thursday for a week of bowhunting.

Well I was out this past weekend and I had absolutely no luck at all. Saw four deer the entire time and two were yearlings and the other two were out of range. My boys saw more deer but couldn't get off any shots either. I put them in the better of the stands and it showed in the numbers they saw but they said the deer were on high alert at all times and were running at the first sound of anything(leaves crunching, twigs snapping, etc). Probably won't get out again til the following weekend now.

Good luck Camo Boy. Don't let the pressure get to ya but we need to get on the board!!

Mossberg, are you out there? I noticed that MY name is on the OS vs MS thread. You may want to submit your name for the contest. If you do not, I think I'm the participant. I have done nothing in regards to that contest.
I will say this, we got pics of about a 150" buck last week. Lots of interpretation on my guesstimate. I also took pics of 3 shooter 8's. The big guy I believe is a 10 point. The pics do not show the entire rack. Probably the biggest rack we've gotten a picture of. We got a bigger bodied buck last year. I think I've now photographed about 16 or 17 different bucks. 4 being 2.5 years or older, IMO. Only one good buck was photographed in shooting light, and that one barely (7:20 am). I'm waiting for a 2.5 year old now. If I get one of them, then it's giant or bust! Will be taking every day I can after this week to hunt HARD. My business is just about on cruise control and not a day too soon.
Gentlemen, start your engines, the rut is here.

was shot by my neighbor this morning!! Unfortunately, he has not been recovered. The guy said he hit him too far forward. Said he was way past his ears and a HUGE 10 point with long tines. I'm pretty bummed. I hope he finds him or he survives. I have yet to show him my trail cam pics but it sounds like he shot MY deer. I'm kidding about it being mine but, I sure did want to get him. Maybe we have a couple big guys out there.

I hunted this morning, (Sun.)
I got up at 4 AM and was in my stand by about 5 AM, so a good 1 hour before daylight.
I have to tell you, it was one AWESOME morning!! I did spooked some deer to the stand, that was bad. But after I got settled in, 15 min. went by and I heard HOWLLLLLL YIP, YIP, YIP!!!!! Now that flat out scared the crap out of me! the pack of yotes must have been about 500 yrds away in the darkness; but they sounded like they were in my back pocket.
Then as dawn started, I seen 3 deer out in the field; 2 bucks and a doe. The bigger buck had his head glued to the ground and headed for the other 2 deer in the field about 100 yards out from me.
I GRUNTED this buck to within 20 yrds!! He came in; I seen that he was about a 12-14" wide 1.5 old buck and let him walk. He then made a scrape, peed, and turned around and headed back for the other two deer. TRUE TALKER grunt calls work! He must have been in the right mind set and I tripped his trigger.
Also on the way out; I did see 2 nice rubs on trees that were 3-4" in dia.
It was a heck of a morning! did not make it back out to the woods tonight; cant wait until the next time! Good luck everyone, this IS the time to be in the woods!

Last night, I finally had the deer I've been waiting for the past 3-5 years show up. A low 130's eight point walked to within 11 paces of my tree stand. After passing up so many young bucks over the years, I finally thought that I was going to be rewarded. NOT!!!! As I began to draw on him, a unbenounced damn grouse caught my movement and thundered out of the scene and took my eight pointer with it. Oh well, there is always next bow season.

Saw 5 bucks today! Passed a 7 point at 15 yards, a 5 point at 10 yards and saw a HUGE 9 point, small 8 point and a 4 pointer. Unreal. The only shooter was the 9 pointer. He had 10+ inch G2's and a kicker on the left one. 6-7 inch brows and way outside his ears. Great mass. Hounding a doe. One of the biggest bucks I've seen while holding a bow. 80 yards is just a tad too far. Tried everything to call HER or him in to my stand. Oh well, I think I'm playing hooky again tomorrow!!!

Opening morning at 7:37 a 5-point walks out to a scrape, Had 3 on one side so I take him. It was early so I decide to sit awhile longer. About 15 minutes later I hear two quick shots on the neighboring property. Three minutes later I see a doe walking straight towards me and all I see on both sides of her rear end is antlers. She turns to move out of the lane and exposes a large Buck. One shot and he drops. Upon walking up to him, He is an 11-pointer, 19 inches wide and massive. His only down fall is that he has short tines. We roughed scored him at 142". Pictures to come. Man, I love the three on a side rule here in Leelanau County.
