The only tail I am going to see is my Shorthair's tail when he slams on point in the grouse woods. Good luck to all the squirrel guys, looks like a good acorn crop this year. I really miss squirrel hunting, haven't gone since I have had dogs....

i took the whole week. im really excited about opening day and my dog and i will be at the truck, in the woods, ready and waiting for season to beigin.
my dog seems to know its time. she has been getting very "squirrely the last few weeks. stairing out the indow,,watching the trees, even has been putting a lot more effort into chasing rabbits in the yard. can dogs read calendars? lol ok i hate to do this to you.... contact mike english with the michigan squirrel dog association. he will invite you on a buddy hunt with the club. bring some cash and a cage because by the time you get done your gonna be shopping for a dog.
if you like what bird dogs do, your gonna love what a squirrel dog does. cool thing is you can get a nice little fiest or cur and tell your wife you got her a puppy of her very own....lol. the little ones are so cute she won't even notice your training it as a squirrel dog.The only tail I am going to see is my Shorthair's tail when he slams on point in the grouse woods. I'm getting pumped too. Took the day off Monday and will be in my traditional opening morning spot before light. I can't wait to try out my new 22 Mag. and see what it can do.

I can hardly wait. Glad to see I'm not alone. It would be nice to see everyone as exited about taking a kid squirrel hunting as they get about the youth deer season.

My Dad worked for GM but from the time I was 5 he ALWAYS took the first week of the squirrel opener off to take me and took the first week of the deer opener off for us to go. He always made time for us. I have some of the best memories of my life during those times. I wish he was still alive to hunt with me. I NEVER miss an opener because of it. I have not missed one in 40yrs.
