The logo looks great if we can get it resized.

I haven't been on much, and won't be over the next week or so as my wife and I are moving into a new house and the internet is not yet hooked up. My only access is at work. Also had 5" of water in the basement on Saturday as we were trying to move in after getting between 6"-8" of rain. Needless to say, I've got a lot of work to do.

Saturday was the most rain ever recorded in one day in Chicago, I sure picked a great day to move.

It wasn't all bad on Saturday though, my Irish came through to beat the skunkbears.

so i had a interesting day. went out for a little tree rat hunt today. when im in the woods the whole time i was in there i had a wierd feeling for some reason. then hundreds of black birds flew in i mean HUNDREDS they were pissing me off bc i couldnt hear **** in the woods besides them. so i started walking back up towards the road to leave i decided to sit on the this stool by the property line for a while. i get home and my parents are having a cookout tons of little kids everywhere. so i had to go to the neibors to clean squirrels. was a interesting day to say the least. still isnt over yet though. my buddy is going out right now to go try and shoot a doe.

Well most of my posting used to be done at work.. But, this week they went on the internet usage warpath and fired some people for excessive/inappropriate usage.. So lets just say my internet activity at work has ceased.. Not much for using the computer at home since I am on one all day at work.. But thats changing.. I'd like to keep my job..

Been doing a little shooting this week.. Need to do some fine tuning and alot more shooting this weekend.. Somethign just hasnt been right and my consistency is not what it should be. I wont be going up until the 3rd, so I should have plenty of time to iron things out...Just rusty and a minor wrist injury has made shooting a little uncomfortable, but its time to pull the skirt up and suck it up... ITS GO TIME!!!

so i helped my buddy set up a new stand a couple months ago, he was all set just waiting for opening day. well yesterday he called me all excited telling me how he just saw a huge buck. apparently he couldnt wait to get out so he went "scouting" with another buddy to show him his stand when he got there there was an 8 point and a doe bedded down under his stand and his dumb **** walked up to them. now he thinks he has a shot at this deer and refuses to listen that the buck probably wont walk by that area again and that that buck didnt get that big on state land by being stupid.

why is it that muzzleloader is my favorite season and it is the one I get to do the least of? it would be nice if the moved it til after christmas, but on a positive note i have the week between christmas and new years off this year so im gonna put a hurtin on some deer, squirrel, rabbit and steelies.

last night me and my unk went out. i didnt see anything but a crap load of turkeys. drove down the road to go pick him up i pull up and see two arrows missing out of his quiver. turns out he shot two does. momma and a yearling. NOW the lucky part is he forgot his release. we started tracking the momma first we tracked her for almost 200 yards. she was not bleeding good. he didnt get a pass through shot. couldnt find her so we gave up on her and decided to go back this morning for her. we found the yearling she didnt bleed good either. but we found her. and tracking in a bean and high grass field for the yearling is some of the easiest tracking i have ever done. we never did end up finding the momma. we tracked her for another 200 yards and could not find any more blood looked all around for her herself. could not find her

He missed one of them and it ran right in front of me and stopped with a great broadside shot. Unfortunately she was just too small.. I let her go... I figure its too early and hope I get my chances at a bit bigger one..

Try again next weekend..

went out again tonight six total. a spike and 5 does at my stand. when i was driving home i drove by another stand and seen two 8's and 4 does in the field next to my stand. i would have shot one of the does tonight but i didnt get any good shots:sad: one of them was pretty big too. the spike idk how he managed it. i heard something in the grass field behind me so i grabbed my bow off the hanger. waited for like 15 mins didnt hear anything or see anything. when i put the bow back on the hanger i accidently rubbed it against a small branch with leaves. then i heard it behind me. he snuck in about ten yards behind my stand with out me hearing him some how:confused: oh well i wouldnt have shot him any way but it was a fun night i almost took the cam out i should have:sad:

Still here guys. I've been out a few times but keep bumping deer going in in the morning and comming out at nights. I have a few private land anterless tags and plan to fill them if the opportunity presents its self. Went out for a while this morning but nothing came thru while on stand.

Saw several this weekend but no shots. Had a doe and her very small fawn come in again last night.. They were fun to watch.. they followed right up my trail and right to my tree.. Must like my acorn cover spray.. I had staring contests with both of them.. Was kind of fun.. I really thought about taking mama but the fawn is still really small and hes a button.. So i figure I will wait her out and give him a better chance.. Im seeing deer every weekend so no rush this early...It was def warm last night.. I wont be back up norht until the 10/23.. But I am taking a long 4 day weekend then, so hopefully my mock scrapes will heat up by then and the temps will cool down...

So are we at the point of getting replacements? Anyone hear from our missing members? At this point its only spk131 right?

the little guy with me is my son he will be 2 in jan. he was scared to death of the deer i had to try so many time to get him close to it thats why i look tarded in the pic lol. but any ways it was a stand that me and my uncle share that is always good for a doe or two. she had a fawn and another doe and fawn come in with her. they were all standing together i had to wait for her fawn to move to take the shot. soon as the fawn moved i let the arrow fly. i hit her a little far foward. as soon as i heard TWACK i thought oh ****. she hardly bled i hit her a little high to. it was getting dark and with little blood i though i mise well just start looking where i heard her then didnt any more. so i walked up the hill in to some thick stuff where i heard her last. sure enough there she was. my arrow broke:rant: and broke one of the blades on my muzzy 100 grain:yikes: she must of had her leg back when i shot her bc the broad head was stuck in her leg bone. ill take a pic of my broad head i have never seen a blade do this. it was fun my first one of the year. so far she has made good jerky and some great sandwhiches. she is only 1 1/2 she must have bred as a fawn but she has got a really strong game taste to her

I just got back from a 3 week hunting trip to the U.P. No tags filled yet. I did pass up 5 different 2 1/2 year old bucks and saw one big one, but didn't get a good shot at him. I only saw two yearling bucks and perhaps 5-6 fawns, so it looks like the bad winter last year took a toll.

I'll be hunting in Washtenaw and Jackson Counties for the next 10 days and then I'll head back to the U.P. I'll be sneaking out in a couple hours to check out some spots and to change camera cards. Two of my food plots were flooded by the 12" of rain we got before I left, so I'm curious to see how they faired.

I havn't been able to hunt the last few days becuase of multiple problems. My new bow got recalled and I didn't get it back until I got back from my U.P. hunting trip. The bow was suposed to have 70 pound limbs and when I got the bow back with the new limbs, they only tested 64 pounds on both of my scales. I can get by with a lighter bow, however they will be sending me new limbs and I'll install them myself after the season. I had to retune and resight the bow and just when everything was clicking good, my new rest came apart as a pin broke. I had to insall another new rest of another brand which I had, retune and resight the bow. That sight seemed to take forever to install as the dropaway cord was a real pain to deal with the way the rest is designed. Then while checking everything over on the bow, I noticed a vibration from the broadhead guard on my new quiver. I had to call the manufacture and they gave me a tip on how to silence it, which worked OK. Then I managed to slice open my right index finger while fixing my knife which had broke while I was in the U.P. The cut is just above where my release trigger presses, however the bandages extend down past the first joint. I wasn't shooting very good yesterday because of the injury. I've tried some new bandaging and will try again today and if it goes well, I'll try to hunt this evening. I also checked my cameras and two of my food plots. The one lost about half of the forage due to flooding and the other lost about 1/3. They have been getting hit hard, but my cameras only showed antlerless deer and two spike horns in the area. If I can, I'm going to hunt a different property tonight.

I shot the new bow this morning checking the paper tune first and then shot 30 arrows at 20 yards putting all them into the 3" bull so I guess I'm OK. I even shot two different broadheads this morning and they hit dead center as well. I'm mainly using my old reliable Rocket Steelhead 100s, however when I hunt from a ground blind shooting thorugh mesh, I'm going to use the new Hellrazor heads from NAP. Those heads fly just like my target tips and from the testing I did, they maintain almost all their speed better than another head I tested when shot through mesh and they are very accurate. The only downside to the Hellrazors is the safety issue of the fixed blade design that can cut things other than deer. I'm going to do another shooting session this afternoon before I head out and I'll be target practicing from a treestand in my back yard.

Here's a photo of my finger right after it happened. Lessons learned: never use your hunting knife as a scewdriver because it might break the tip off. Never use a file to then try to reshape the tip as you might cut yourself and besides I found out that the steel on the knife was too hard to file anyway and I actaully ruined my file in the process. Also, to fix a cut like this, first allow it to completly stop bleeding even when opened up, then open the cut and apply super glue and press it together and bandage well to keep it together and protect the wound. The best way to bandage it was to use two 3/4" Bandaids and then wrap that with some medical tape. Glueing instead of stiching will let it heal quicker and it costs less and is much less of a big deal to do the first aid your self. I learned this from doctors so I'm not just making this up. By the way, I eventually used a grinder to reshape the broken knife tip, which is now back in service.

I didn't mention everything that went wrong this week as it gets better. When I came home I found out that squirrels had been chewing on my charter boat making a big mess of it. I think they are all dead now, but that's going to be some serious expense and work to fix that mess. My woodchuck problem has also returned. I thought I had killed the problem woodchuck that had dug holes all over my yard including along my basement foundationl, but now I'm back at it again trying to trap or shoot the little b******s. I also discovered some electrical problems in the house leaving half my basement in the dark. I had to fix that one which took a while. I had to cape a couple deer heads out that were brought in when I was gone and they were the most bloody, stinky things you can imagine and they were all cut up, cut short and full of damage. Of course they didn't mention those little problems when my wife asked them about damage at drop off. lets not forget the stock market. OK, I'm done bitching. Now I can go out and hunt and have some fun. I'll be hunting from a ground stand this evening, which is always fun.:)

Hunted yesterday evening about five minutes from my house. Saw a doe with two fawns and when they were right in front of me, a coyote came in and chased them away. They ran into a catail masrh and the coyote broke off the chase. I wasn't planning to shoot the deer anyway.

Went to the gun range this morning and hunted this evening on my property. Saw a fair number of deer with three of them comming into my food plot. One was a small racked buck. I counted seven scrapes visible from my stand and I know there are likely a few more in the vicinity so that stand is looking good. I was in a cherry tree and coons had left me piles of dung from eating the cherries the last few weeks. I had to scrape off pounds of the stuff, but I knew I might find this present becuase I found lots of poop in the stand a few weeks ago when I preped it. I brought along a small board to scape all the crap off the stand with. I saw two coons in my food plot, but did not give them payback yet. I've got a very good stand I'm going to hunt tomorrow with the S. winds predicted. I'll also hunt a new stand tomorrow evening which is perfect for S. winds too. The winds are predicted to be S. for two days, then they are to turn N. again.

It can happen to the best of'm. I'll never forget the time when when the person I was with pooped his pants in Walmart and had to add "underwear" to his shopping list. Once, during about mid-Sept. I was heading out ot sit in an observation stand and I felt that dreadful rumble from deep down within. I knew I'd never make it back to camp so I did my business right in the middle of the food plot I was standing in. We later took two trophy bucks from a stand next to that plot.

I hunted a stand about 100 yards behind my house this morning. I got into the stand before dawn and found that mice had built a nest on the seat of the treestand. I had to quietly evict them. I saw one fawn and two bucks. Both bucks were over 200 yards away. One was a good sized one though.:)

I've been seeing some deer, but not a lot. The evening movments have been very late primarily in the last minutes of legal shooting time. The morning movements have also been before the sun comes up and then they are bedding. I'd guess it's due to the moon phase. I've seen a few deer, but not many. I'll be hunting in S. MI for a few more days, then I'm heading back to the U.P. for a couple weeks. I much prefer hunting up there as I'm getting tired of lisening to dogs barking, jets flying overhead, cars blasting by, kids screaming and other not so pleasant hunting noises. I much prefer the wind blowing through the trees as my white noise while on stand.

I hunted a property last night where a neighboring dog barked non-stop for the three hours I was on stand and when he did catch his breath and stop for a few seconds, I'd hear jets blasting overhead. I sat in a stand overlooking a marsh a few days ago. It has a clear view to the east. I could see one jet after another rising up from Detroit Metro. I could see their takoff/landing lights and I'm on the western edge of Washtenaw Co. which is probably 40-50 miles from Metro. They would climb up a ways, then turn their lights off and most of them eventually went right over my head. I'm also about five miles from I-94 and on a calm sit, I can still clearly hear the traffic on the freeway. I grew up in an area in N. MI where you did not hear noise like that and I guess thats why I much prefer to hunt up north. Even in the remote area of the U.P. though where I hunt there are noises that I never used to hear in years past. I hear wolves howling on most evening hunts these days. When your sitting in a treestand in a remote area all alone and a pack of wolves lets loose close by, now that is a noise that will penetrate.

I put my dog though a blood trailing excercise today. I dribbled out some deer blood that I had saved from last year. I strung out a trail about 200 yards long around my yard (I have a big yard) and at the end of the trail I had a peice of tanned deer hide left over from what I trimmed off the back of a head mount I finsihed a while back. The end of the trail was at the end of a turnaround where I can back my boat into the stall. It's real brushy. I laid down the trail this morning, let it age a few hours, then took Harry out for a sniff. Blood trail work is the only time he gets to pull on lead and he litterally dragged me through the course and got to the end in less than one minute. Funny thing though, we jumped a deer that was bedded down about 10 yards from where I had stashed the deer hide. Harry didn't pay any attention to the deer but was happy to find the deer hide and get his reward.

My GSP is a pet first, hunting dog second, but I want to get him out in the field once in a while. He's been trailing pheasant scent in our back yard quite well so I'm excited to see how he does on the real thing this weekend...if the weather holds.

That's awesome... our dog, Cody helped me find a deer I shot last year he was on that trail without any help and found that deer in less then a minute....he then proceeded to tear at the wound and would have eaten the whole deer if I were to let him...he also helped me drag it out. I finally had to lock it in the barn to keep him off it, did I mention Cody is a Jack Russell?

I hunted yesterday evening and the only ones I saw were two fawns 1/4 miles away on my neighbors field. I did not see any deer yesterday eithor. Daytime movement is very low right now and will stay that way for the next week due to the moon phase combined with changing deer metabilism. Becuase of that, I'm bumping up my trip to the U.P. leaving tomorrow morning (if I can get everyting I need done today). Where I hunt in the U.P. the deer have changed their movement patterns due to wolves. The peak hunting time the is now from 11:00 to 4:00 during the day. No mater what the moon phase or time of year, there is very little nocturnal movment these days there. The deer have adapted to avoid wolf encounters. When I'm up there, I don't normally hunt much in the mornings for deer. I hunt birds or waterfowl a lot then. I hit my stand at 11 or 12 and sit until dark.

For a coyote hide, check out the forum at taxidermy.net I've bought and sold lots of those types of items on there.

My dog is pointing lab and is 4 years old. He gets to hunt a lot, but is also a house dog. I've only used him to trail one real deer blood trail. I've had a run of short, easy recoveries on my deer the last four years. One guy shot a deer though and couldn't find a blood trail and I helped him track it down with Harry. He tracked it right to where it was bedded, but it was still alive and allowed us to get within 10 feet of him before it jumped up and staggered off a short ways where the guy put another arrow into it. It had been gut shot and that recovery was the next day.

I'll be up there until 11/8 so I won't be checking in until I get back. Good luck on this very promising hunting period.

I got out Sunday night in hurricane force winds and didn't see a deer. Back out Monday morning in the rain and saw 9 (2 1.5 yr old bucks, 2 button bucks and 5 does). Also saw a buck chasing a doe around a field on my drive in at about 10:30 AM. Looks like it is starting to get exciting.

I plan on hunting in Illinois this weekend and then back to Michigan for the 7th, 8th and 9th. By then it should be very good! Good luck out there!

Last weekend was horrible.. I saw one deer in 6 hunts and that was while I was walking to my stand at 630AM.. The weather was just not cooperating.. Windy and rainy duing the day.. Just bad..

But, Im gonna give it another go this weekend... Looks like the weather will be back to normal so hopefully the deer will be back to their normal movements for me...

The only good thing that came of it was that I finally found some rubs.. Decent size too..

We need to score fellas..

well guys i scored this morning i thought. i have been scoping out my hunting area very well. this morning im sitting in my stand two does come hauling ass by me grunted at one got her to stop but she wouldnt come in. after they walked off i grunted towards the way they came. about a minute later here comes a deer. it got closer it was a buck. bakset rack 8 messed up right antler. he had a piece of antler growing out the side of head with ALOT i mean ALOT of stickers on between half inch and a inch. he came right under my stand then walked about ten yards quartering away. took aim let the arrow fly. now here is where idk what happend. the arrow went in about where the back straps end towards the butt and stuck in his brisket. he took off ran for about 20 yards then started walking like nothing happend. i kept watching him and he started get wobbly. then walked where i couldnt see him. then i couldnt hear him any more either. i smoked a cig waited about 20 minutes and went to wear he was standing when i shot him. couldnt find any blood. so i walked over to where i seen him standing and wobbling on the way there i found tracks but no blood but as soon as i got to where he was wobbling i found alot of blood in a circle then drops kept going for about 5 feet then stopped that was the only blood i found. i let him go 6 hours and went back out and i still couldnt find him. i must say i feel like complete s h i t. i feel like im gonna puke i would rather of missed him them this. this is the first deer i have lost.:(:(:sad:

Hang in there Spooled. I know how you feel, as does just about anyone that has bow hunted for any number of years. I lost a couple deer before I got my first one with a bow and it was pretty depressing. If you only stuck him in the muscle, I'm guessing he will be ok, they are pretty tough critters.

Keep your head up and keep plugging away. The next couple weeks are going to be some great times in the woods!

W T F. got down went to go get my arrows no blood nothing. why the hell do i keep missing deer. looked over my bow everything looked good. checked my over draw. and bam there is my problem. one of the screws is stripped out. so i just moves all over. ive had enough of the over draw. im gonna see if i can some how get another rest of some sort.

Took my son Hunter to a friends this past weekend, Saturday night we saw 26 does/fawns, nothing close enough for a bow though. We were sitting in his box blind. Sunday am we saw 9 does, had one close enough, drew back, bleated to stop her and she decided to stop behind a tree, and instead taking that one more step I needed to shoot her she turned and decided to walk straight away from me.....aghhhhhh!!!!!! My son had a ball watching all those deer. I'm off work Nov 6-9, i'll be back up there with my climber trying to smack a couple.

No Luck for me this weekend, but I did finally score a spot on some Private land about 15 mins from where we normally hunt..

Im now on a 10 acre plot.. My stand is about 75 yards off of a pond surrounded by nice green grass.. I have a couple of shots to the edge of the field and about 20 to 30 yards out into it... the owner is a family friend and she sees deer there every day, morning and night.. The property is surrounded by 30 acre parcels on each side.. All woods and also open for us to hunt as she is good friends with her neighbors.. the rear edge of her property is backed up by a cedar swamp which is part of another 160 acre private parcel..

My uncle and I are very excited.. So much deer sign I think I still have scratch marks on my chin from walking around with my jaw dropped...So Im hoping I can finally score this coming weekend!!!

I shot this buck on election day right before dark (voted the week before). He came in rubbing trees all the way. I had seen 3 other bucks that evening before he showed up passing up two 2.5 year olds and a yearling. I saw two more after I shot him: a 2.5 year old and a very large, mature buck (a lot bigger than the one I got) that would not offer me a shot. It was quite the exciting evening. The shot was about 20 yards and hit him mid-chest, right behind the shoulder and angled forward comming out near the brisket and then going through his front leg. I was about 30' up in a bit cedar tree and without the extreem height, I would have been winded for sure as the buck circled in down wind of me and came right under my stand before offering a shot. He ran about 100 yards. I had to track him in the dark with wolves howling just to the south of me witch is always thrilling. I shot him with my backup bow, a Mathew's Outback. My new bow, a Bowtech General gave me more problems, so I was glad I had brought my backup bow along on the trip. I drilled him with a Carbon Express Terminator Hunter arrow tipped with a Rocket Steelhead broadhead. That combination has produced dozens of deer for me over the years. He weighed 190 lbs. dressed, has 7 points with a 14" inside spread. With the warm weather I had to cut him up and head home a couple days earlier than planned. I got about 90 pounds of boned meat from him and he is very tender with good flavor. Based on his teeth, I estimated his age at 3.5 years old. I'll be hunting in S. MI for the next week and then heading back to the U.P. on the 14th for 11 days of gun hunting.

Nice Buck TS!

I had some excitement over the weekend but no shots. On Friday morning I rattled in a beautiful 10 or 12 pt (hard to tell as it had some stickers). He came in on the run and hung up at about 40 yards looking for the deer that were fighting. I tried grunting and bleating at him and he would only walk back and forth without coming any closer. After about 5 minutes he turned around and trotted off. He ended up going past my dad at 20 yards who could not get him to stop for a shot.

Friday night at about 5:00 I heard a noise behind me and turned around just in time to see a large set of antlers about 10 yards away trotting directly at my tree. By the time I hooked my release on my bow this buck was directly below my tree looking up at me. He was a very symmetrical 10 pt with a 17-18 in. spread. After a few seconds of looking up he continued trotting directly away from me. I stood and drew on him and grunted to stop him at 15 yards and again at 25 yards. Both times he stopped and only turned his head to look back at me. He never turned his body enough to give me a good shot angle and I was not going to attempt a shot at him facing straight away from me.

Saturday and Sunday the weather turned nasty and we continued to see a lot of smaller bucks, but no good ones. Yesterday morning my dad watched a doe come out of the woods across a field and she had 4 young bucks in a line behind her. The corn is all down around us and the does are definitely coming into heat. I'm heading back Friday night for the opener, it should be a good one.

Good luck out there!

I've been hunting on my property in Washtenaw Co. and at another spot a mile away in Jackson Co. I've had two small bucks work a scrape I started in Sept. as a mock scrape. I saw a decient sized buck this morning at about 9:00. He was on the prowl looking for does. I tried to grunt him in, but he was moving so fast he never heard my grunts. I tried to get to my rattlers but by the time I got his attention he was about 400 yards away and would not turn and come back my way. I'll be bowhunting around home until Thurs. and then heading back to the U.P. for 11 days with my wife. That should be an awsome hunt.

Thats cool.. I believe the 4pt I saw came in to the area looking for the rattling/grutning and bleating that we had going on.. My uncle and I sit about 75 yards or so apart.. I usually work the bleat can a few times, then he starts up with his grunting and rattling.. Its pretty fun when something comes in to it..

Way to go TS. Weather down here was bad for the opener. I sat for 11 hours and only saw 5 does.

Sunday was a little better, snow instead of rain. Sat for 11 more hours and saw well over 20 deer. Two small bucks and one that may have been a shooter but it was a few hundred yards away crossing a field.

I am hunting the Illinois firearm season this weekend and will be back in Michigan to hunt the 25th and 26th. We'll see what happens.

The weather up here as been real crummy all week. It snowed and blowed on the opener but melted by the time I shot the buck at 11:45. We got 5" of snow on Monday and it's been real cold and windy with snow falling off the trees, which is never good. Very few shots fired. We are predicted to get up to 15" of snow tomorrow, which will be interesting to see if that happens. My wife has been hunting from 10:00 on every day and has been seeing lots of mid-day movement. She had a monster buck sneak up on her and before she could get her gun up it bolted. I think she's seen about eight different bucks so far but only one shooter.
