I am going to be doing more shooting (with my bow) then taking my nephew out to the gun range so he can get some more pratice in before the early youth hunt.

Hopefully going to check on some public land that I was told about not to far from where I work. Hopefully will be able to get a few days out there after work, for the early part of bow season when I can't get up north. Seen some well used run ways, just need to get a bit more time to really get into the woods to look it over.

I'll keep you guys posted on the pics. this past week the cams have been checking out new areas so I have no idea what will be on them. But starting tomm I 'll be setting them up at good stand locations to see whats going on.

Got all my camo and underclothes washed last night, It took 5 Hours to do, but thats because I wash my clothes in Sport wash and do 2 loads of regular laundry with sport wash to help get all other soaps outta the washer before starting my UV Killer treated camo

Its raining out pretty hard right now:rant:, but I have work to do on one last stand so I guess I'll be getting wet.:fish:

I worked on stands this weekend, Got my New Camo washed and sprayed in UV Killer. Moved 3 of my cameras. Still need to raise one stand about 10 feet to get it higher, and may add a last miniute stand if something heats up before the 1st.... I'm not sure where everyone went

well my bear hunting trip wasnt a failure by any means... i passed a bear that i see some guys over in the bear forums would have shot.... oh well wasnt the bear for me... saw him 3 nights in a row and saw his brother that was a little bigger than him on the last night... i nicknamed him boo boo... he was around 100-120 lbs... not a real big bear... had him broadside at 15 yards for probably 20 mins over the 3 days :lol:

he would have been a gonner...

i may try to go back up in october sometime to see if i cant get a hunt in... maybe around the middle of september when the deer movement has slowed down to nothing... like always...

i will be sure to keep you guys updated on that but i dont think we get points for bears :lol:

i am going scouting tomorrow with casscityalum on some stateland... we are going to do a little squirrel hunting with our bows (i think) and scout at the same time.. im sure the places i will want to get will be a little too wet but hopefully i can at least check out the lay of the land a little bit...

may be my best bet for taking a nice buck... as sad as that may sound...

i just found out that over at my grandmas is getting worse and worse.. someone moved into a house and got permission from the people who they bought it from to hunt and now the people that used to hunt it are moving on the other side of me :lol:... that place was a monster buck paradise that has now turned into what state land usually looks like... it is really sad...

i will find a good buck somewhere this year... its just going to be a lot harder than years passed... hopefully i dont have 3 more years of no bucks ( i pass anything 8 point and less and less than 16 inches if i can help it).... thats why i kept going buckless... but we will see on the state land i might not be so picky :)

ill update tomorrow after the scouting trip

The rain has let up and tonight on my way home I musta seen about 30 deer within 1 mile of my hunting property. A big 10 point that is probably 20-21 inches wide with really tall tines and good mass was standing on the side of the road eating in a hay field. He looked at me and his horns where dark from blood and he had velvet hanging from the right horn. He was only about 20 yards away. I slowed down and he just stood there looking at me before running off. Coolest thing I have see in a while

Well I didn't get out to do anything other then shoot more foam!! But the bow is shooting GREAT!!

On the other hand, I was just told by a co-worker that I can do some hunting at his property in Durand this year, they only gun hunt it. :woohoo1:

I hadnt plan to go out but one of my buddies is home from Arizona and he told his dad that he needed to get some does off of his property so i might go over to his place and take a doe :) should be kind of fun... havent seen him in forever... probably sit close by and ill video him first then he can video me! and take a doe!!... ill keep you posted if i do that or not... i wont be taken a doe with fawns either...

i didnt get to really get out and scout today... casscity took like 10 years to get to my house and by then it was a misty rain and we went back in my woods... didnt see a hole lot of sign (where i got my 9 point last year) so that kind of stinks... saw a small buck and a couple does while we were back there... still need to find a place to throw up a stand there.... and then i got called in to work today :( but now i have saturday off for the Notre Dame MSU game.... TAILGATING BABY!!!!

then we are going out and celebrating being engaged because i kind of went to bear camp the next week :lol: and we never got all our friends together and do that...

so ill keep ya updated on the whole early doe season hunt whether i make it out or not...

oh ya i got one for you... i shoot a doe and pass up a million little bucks and go buckless :(

but last year i called it and said i was going to kick butt so this year i am shooting a 140-150 class 8 to 10 point.... i have some searching to do... but ill find him...

My prediction is 100% chance on me getting a doe and about a 50% of taking a buck. Last year was our first season with our lease and we have some pretty strict harvest rules when it comes to bucks. Last year we had 22 different bucks on cam and harvested only one, so I have high hopes this year and if I do take one it will be a biggin'.

I got out yesterday and did some scouting/small game hunting on some public land, where I'd be a little less picky about bucks (first 2 1/2 I see gets it). I found two very promising areas. One is two heavily producing crabapple trees within a thick bedding area, the other is a group of oaks dropping acorns next to a bedding area. These few oaks are the only ones producing out of many areas I checked. Hopefully I can get out a day or two after work and give them a chance. They should be decent since there won't be bait to compete with this year. No signs of rubs yet.

I have only seen a few very small rubs, nothing big yet. But Big Bucks are being spotted in the area so thats good, this weekend I'll be checking cams that are in good spots, so we will see.

yeah i am holding out.... i ordered a buck up from Illinois... i have to wait till he gets michigan residency before i can shoot him so he will count though :lol:

his special package was a trail cam i ordered for him... he kept whining about it...

yeah went back in the woods behind my house... doesnt look good....

so behind my house- Not looking good
My grandmas- Not looking good... over hunted...
Lease land- New group of guys from Detroit leased the land next to us and shoot anything that moves....
Aunts house- Usually decent when the corn is up... but dad usually hunts that... (not many acres)
State land? Still Need to scout......

this season is looking like it might be harder than originally planned :(

Things are looking good. My lease partner went out after a doe this morning (didn't connect but saw several) and checked things around the property. He pulled the card on his cam and had several 1 1/2 old bucks working a mock scrape we made a couple weeks ago with our own special blend. Our food plots are looking fantastic (I posted pictures in the habitat forum) and loaded with tracks. I'm still planning to get out sunday and will pull the card on my cuddeback that's looking over a kill plot. Can't wait to see what is on it.

well i had a great hunt but not so great hunt lastnight.... we saw probably 10 does and 4 bucks.... all the bucks were smaller than 6 points.

first we had a group of does come directly downwind of us but that is not how they busted us... my buddy wasnt wearing gloves or a facemask and kept moving his head like a dang owl... he wouldnt quit moving because he wanted to see them and they spotted him and took off...

an hour later deer were poping out along a corn field and feeding on acorns that had dropped between the fence row and the corn. there was a lot of does and bambis so i told him i didnt want to shoot a doe that had bambis and if a doe broke off the group and came my way i would shoot it... his answer was ok whatever.... im thinking hmmm a yes would have been nice...

sure enough a doe breaks off the rest of the group and starts coming on a line right too me... a real nice mature doe! the time is getting near and he kept asking... you sure you are going to take care of it tonight and you sure you want to track it and gut it and all this... so he didnt make me feel real confident he wanted me to shoot it now....

he had to get to a party and i was his ride there (meaning he didnt want to wait around he wanted to get going) after i didnt shoot he was like why the heck didnt you shoot her.... she was only like 5-8 yards broadside!!!!!!

uhgggg i was so mad i could have went and sat in a tree stand at some other land and smoked one lastnight.... oh well....

Dan Connell might come out and video my hunting sunday night... so we will see then...i will be hunting our lease property but there is quiet a few other guys out there... not sure if they are hunting this early season or not... so ill have to check that out before i know if i am going or not!

I had 529 pics on one cam in a week. lots of smaller bucks and Doe's and fawns, Cats, turkeys and Coyotes. This Buck will be getting the free pass from me. I already have a buck this size on the wall :D I'm really hoping to get a pic of the big 12 point that has been spotted twice in the last week, but so far no luck. I'll be checking 2 more cams tomorrow.

the monster buck that i missed last year right before gun season ran out in front of a car the other day i guess right by my house:yikes: crazy sucker... glad he didnt get hit....

tonight Dan Connell came over to video my hunt and the only things that came within bow range were about 6 toms and two fawns (born early... no spots)

saw quiet a few deer... prolly 15.. all does and fawns... the does all came out to far away... it was a weird night... the wind was bad and the deer all came from spots they have never came from before... might have to sit there a few more times once season is here and see if i have to move my stand or what... not really happy about that....

and hot air balloons can kiss my butt... i hate those good for nothing things... always scaring deer out here

Oct. 1st is coming up!! I am going to put up my treestands today, going in and coming right back out.

I didnt hunt the EAS-had to work, plus I can wait a few more days to take a doe, just doesnt seem to thrill me to sit out for a doe.

Last week I checked out a piece of state land and the trees were dropping acorns, lots of deer sign, I am going to look for a stand spot there tomorrow too. It is next to my parents-My step-father told me that there are a couple guys who have seemed to dominate this spot, posted it and kick others off-cant wait for them to try it! I might just sit in their tree stand! :D No--I will start off nice, but if they get ignorant I will sit in there stand, the good thing is, my parents happen to be friends with the local DNR guy and his wife--I have their number in my cell phone :)

Should be an interesting season!

I hate those darn balloons too. My neighbor has a hot air balloon business and they are always flying over.. But They are sure fun to fly in, I have went up twice, and it was very cool to see the country from above just floating along and buzzing trees and corn fields.

The 12 point will be tough to get because there are 4 properties, that all 4 corners meet. Mine and 3 other guys, and we all know about the big buck and everyone is hunting for it. 2 of the properties will be out hunting this youth hunt for it. It has been sticking to hay fields and woods. My property has no hay fields or woods, so its not looking good.

Is the EAS over now? Can't wait for OCT 1st :D

Then, on the 18th we are sitting in the stand and I am filming him and we had a few bucks and some does come into our oak flat and this guy is shaking so freaking hard the whole tree is shaking and I can feel it.. No lie!! I look at him and said "You Alright" He just looked at me and shook his head!!:lol: And we are hunting does!!

Either way I was actually laughing trying not to make any noise and these deer were all about 50 yards away through some brush.. And it is at least 6"..

Craig, I could give him the benefit of the doubt on a big ole buck... But to see him get that worked up over a doe was great!! At least we know what to expect!!:lol:

A - It was no where near cold
B - The stand you were in was plenty secure
C - As soon as we seen them before they even came into the flat you were on your feet in position with the bow in hand ready to go!! :D

No.. I did not get the T Screw unless Scott did.. He moved the stand and now that htis season is over I am going to pull both down and use them for doubles..

Sat out Monday evening and saw a buck and several does. We hunted the edge of a corn field. We had just got there, broke off some corn stalks and these two doe came trotting right in to us. I think the sound made them curious! Just then, the wind picked up and they scented us and trotted off, not to return. We watched a buck come into the adjoining field. He hung out for a good 30 minutes...I will be keeping an eye out for him next week!

Hopefully I'll be off grouse hunting/scouting in Irons this weekend. Getting pretty excited for Oct 1!

Good Luck on the Grouse Hunting. I got my blind put out last weekend, and have been told of 2 other tree stands that I can use right by work. So hopefully I will be able to get out more then I thought.

Taking my nephew out for the youth hunt this weekend. I think I am more excited than he is......Hopefully he can connect on his first deer !

It is almost that time....:bouncy::woohoo1: October 1 st, I feel like a kid at Christmas !

WOW-- I finally got settled in to my new spot, checked it out and it seems alright, I was informed 1 week ago today that the land I have been hunting the past 12 years was sold 3 weeks ago, and I no longer have permission :sad: Lots of fond memories of many hunts and arrowed deer, but hey it was bound to happen, so I am entering into the society of State land hunters this year, I think I found a decent spot, thats why I have been quiet on here, I have been scouting!!!

I have the same feeling this year. I think its going to start of slow for me too. I know where I'm sitting, and have my fingers crossed that I see something. Last week there patterns changed dramatically around here. I may take a doe in the morning, if its the right situation. Stalking corn fields is fun too :)

I'll be at my lenawee county lease. In the morning I'll be set up between a large bedding area and a 1/2 acre plot of buck forage oats. Haven't decided on an evening spot, maybe a fence row leading to the neighbors alfalfa field, with apple trees on one side of the stand and a heavy producing oak on the other:D

Well he did not get a deer....Did however get a shot at his first ever doe....
He shot under her, just barely a scrape. All we found was white/blackish hair. No blood what so ever. He did have a blast and is so looking forward to going again in November.

He was sitting to the right of me and the doe came in to the left of me, I seen her first so I had to try to get his attention because he was looking accross the field....as soon as I tapped his leg to get his attention and he seen her, I could hear him starting breathing heavey not to mention I swear I heard his heart beating...LOL it was a great time and he thoroughly enjoyed himself !!

He is hooked now !!

I went out and scouted behind my house again and 1 piece of the state land tonight....

behind my house i know EXACTLY where to sit now...

casscity took forever to get to my house again tonight so we only got to scout one chunck of the state land... when we got away from the beaten down trails we found some decent deer sign.... nothing to get me pumped up though... until the rut however.... once the rut hits i will be out on the state land a lot i believe... looks pretty dang good!

ill wait until a crappy hunting day and go out and scout some different parts of it.... still not sure where i am going out tomorrow night... about to check the weather... and see if i can make my decision yet.

Well my dad called me and asked where I was going... he likes going to the same property that I go to, but i told him i wasnt sure yet... then he kept hounding me so i gave in and told him i would hunt the lease land... so looks like i might shoot a doe tonight if they move... sounds like this morning not much moved.... im going to try to video myself maybe... ill let ya know how it goes... whether i get one or not i wont be able to post till late... it will be real late if i get one.... and i doubt i will see any bucks.. its where i shot my 10 point last year but with just beans right there and being early in the season its kind of a doe stand!

Bad Morning. Nothing Moving. I saw 1 Doe, and thats it. The wind was pretty strong and had everything spooked out by me. A buddy of mine who lives 1/2 mile away shot a 9 point this morning, in his hay field

Hey everyone, got my 5 points for a doe today. She came in about 7:15 this morning. It was a fawn, came in all by itself so I thought for sure it was a BB. It was light enough for me to shoot, but still too dark to tell if it was a buck or doe. Luckily she hung within 15 yards for 10-15 minutes until it got light enough and I was 100% satisfied it was a doe. She ended up offering me an 8 yard broadside shot and the Slick Tricks flew true. She ran off into some thick cover and I heard her crash. A half hour later I passed a nice 1.5yo 6pt at 15 yards, thin and short tines, but already as wide as his ears. He'll be a good one someday! I climbed down to track the doe around 9:30, painted blood trail, and followed it only 30-40 yards, heart/lunged her.

Although that was the only action I saw all day, it was a great day at our property. Between 4 hunters we had encounters with about 50 deer, 5 being 1.5 YO bucks(3 of which were passed within 20 yards), and a flock of 21 turkeys! One other hunter drew back on a mature doe only to have it's fawn step in front so he elected to back down. It was a great way to kick off the season!

The batterys died on my cam today so I had to use my buddies camera for the contest pic. He is supposed to email it to me tomorrow and I will submit it then.

yeah i never really like openers... i like the end of october and 1st 2 weeks of november best... but ill be out there tomorrow

i am going to my aunts tomorrow with my dad... lots of deer out there... then he is gone this weekend so i have everything to myself :)

tonight i saw 3 little bucks and 3 does.... and the 2 bucks and the doe were on the run after they winded my dad because he used a dang decoy tonight... yeah it got the deer in close to him but they wouldnt leave and finally winded him... not sure what he was thinking.... he had 5 bucks and like 6 does within 20 yards all at once and couldnt get a shot at the does and the biggest buck was a 15 in 6 point...

AWESOME place to hunt... i cant wait to sit there i just have to figure out how the heck i am going to get passed the bedding area to sit there!!! it will be a gold mine until the corn comes down!!

OK--I had an awesome hunt. Set up on the ground between two fields on a ditch line. I was sitting not more than 15 minutes and I heard some corn leaves moving I stood up and sure enough I saw deer in the corn on the edge about 60-70 yards from me, chewing and working there way, I was set back too far to get a shot so I crept forward to get a clearer shot and a little closer, It was too quiet and once I got about 25 yards from the doe she spied me and we had a face off, so I drew back and gave her an arrow in the neck! She ran about 40 yards into the corn and was down. :p
I sat back down and was reviewing in my head, the events, the mosquitoes were almost unbearable so after sitting for 15-20 mins I stood up and looked over one field edge-nothing, looked over the other field edge-saw movement and sure enough it was antlers! I hunkered down seeing he was working his way towards me and should come within that 25 yard mark so I waited, well he got to the point that the doe headed into the corn which was 41 yards (range-finder) from me and he stopped, he stayed there a long time sniffing and was not too sure what he wanted to do but he wasnt moving forward. Then he finally.. after eternity and me kneeling on one now numb leg started to move forward, then he stopped, now he is approx. 36 yards. I am ready on one knee release on the bow string, but the darn mosquitoes are killing me!!:rant: I cant help but put my hand up to try ad squash the ones that have buzzed into my face mask and are sucking me dry around my eyes and temple! Its all it took and he saw me move--zeroed in on me and that was that. alls I could see was part of his face and part of his neck, he was hiding his face behind some weeds and actually moved his head over a little to better conceal his face from me. I thought-well its now or not, it worked on the doe--I pulled back aimed at the part of neck I could see and released, he ran down the field edge about 30 yards and stopped--(darn I thought I missed but I figured it was a hit or miss shot anyway), then he swayed stumbled and was DOWN!! I was so suprised when I walked up and saw the size of his body, I had never seen his body because it was always concealed by the weeds.

He is a 10 pt with 17 3/4 inch spread

I was not sure how this season was going to go, I was told the second week of September that I could no longer hunt the property I have hunted the past 12 years because it had been sold. I was so accustomed to getting my deer and not really having to scout so actually it was nice to be challenged and I spent a lot of time scouting--it paid off!

I hunted all weekend, and the weather was perfect. Well the neighbors partying, hayrides, tractors breaking down 100 yards from me, people stoping there cars and honking there horn at the deer that where in front of me, plus neighbors shooting guns all evening,, made this a tough weekend. I'll be hunting every evening this week and all next weekend

DANG IT!!!
I was so close to getting a buck tonight i could smell it!!

I had a nice buck 5 yards broadside from me for 5-10 mins tonight.... the bad part... IT WAS TOO DARK.... there was no doubt in my mind that I could have shot this deer, however i knew it was after LEGAL shooting hours and i couldnt see my pin as good... he looked like a real nice buck... LOTS of white on his head.... It was at the spot that i just found...

I am guessing i kicked it out earlier in the day when i went in because i carried in my climber and my camera and bow so i was a bit loud going in and climbing the tree... and he came back just a little to late... hopefully i didnt spook him tonight and he will be back... i was about 14 feet up and i left my climber in the tree and shimmied down another tree that was close that i had to jump to :lol: so i wouldnt make any noise getting out of there...

as soon as it was prime time i could hear deer all over through the corn!!! this spot i have will pay off he just has to come in a little bit earlier... tomorrow i am going to the store and buying some footpegs and crawling up in the stand to do it all over again tomorrow......

so far i have seen 2 shooters and couldnt seal the deal on either of them :(

One 4 pt came in and worked a scrape 5 yards from me, then stayed directly under my tree for 10 minutes and made a couple new scrapes under me. It was an exciting hunt, even if they weren't shooters. We've yet to see any shooters on the property or even get any pics of shooters since august(have a feeling they're in the corn and I'm waiting for it to come down). I'll be giving our lease a rest until the end of october, hitting some public land up north and around home. We'll see what happens.

On a serious note:
There out there, just hiding for now. I think the EAS messed me up, because once gun season starts I usually dont see much. So after all the shooting that took place for those 5 days or so. They are laying low. There is a 1500 acre safe haven 1/2 mile from my house. No hunting is allowed in there and its patrolled. So thats where I think they are for now.

Well we are going to be on the bored soon..I took an Ionia County doe tonight around 6:30 so I was in and out and going back out for one more in the morning hopefully out of the same stand..shined the field tonight and the deer were out in front of the stand..Mine was all alone and no deer were spooked:)

Awesome Sabre!! She looks like a nice mature deer, we are starting to roll now! BTW, my friend harvested a nice doe this weekend shooting slick tricks. I've been really impressed so far she only went 30-40 yards just like mine, with great blood. I can't believe yours went 300:yikes: Seeing any shooters yet?

Yea I was shocked, I have shoot 2 other deer with the Slick Trick head and they only went about 40 yards each. It was a very easy tracking job, a blind man could have followed it. I have not seen any shooters in a while, but they are out there, and it's only a matter of time. Now that I have a doe in the freezer, My focus will shift to the big boys.. Lets keep it rolling guys

Man o man i was hoping we could double up tonight!!!
I ended up seeing quiet a few deer even with that dang tractor only 100 or so yards away... and i saw a doe i would love to harvest! She has a big white patch on the side of her neck!!! (and its got bigger since last year) i know this deer is at least 3 years old because last year she was a big doe also.... she is smart as heck though!!! The only deer i could have shot tonight was a little spike or 4 point.... I saw a big bodied deer across the field but wouldnt come in... looked like a buck.... I am going to be moving that stand... Im not hunting wednesday but thursday and friday i am going all out because this weekend is duck season and im going duck hunting :hide:

have no fear though i have high hopes for thursday and friday... Im going to be sitting somewhere different than i have been at the lease i have and if i sit behind my house again that big boy has to come back and during daylight... I have seen shooters at each place so its only a matter of time... Im for sure not going deer hunting sunday and if i cant find a good place to go duck hunting saturday i may deer hunt saturday....

I know from the point that I shot her back to our woods is a little less then 1/2 mile, and she made it 2/3ds of the way there. however far that is. When I was in the corn another doe came about 20 ft from running me over:yikes: she was racing down my row of corn coming right at me and I had to wave my arms and yell so I didnt get run down:lol:

today i get out of work at 12... then i have to go get some stuff done to send out some more stuff for my Colorado job and then im hoping to be done by like 2 or so and im hitting up the corn fields if its windy enough.... I hope to hunt all day tomorrow and tonight because then saturday morning and sunday morning i will probably be in the duck woods!!!

maybe deer hunting sunday night and not sure maybe even saturday night too...

Ok im back... had to do a little trash talking because that is what makes this thing fun :lol:

I hunted the property we call our lease land... and had a rough start to the day... I had decided that i would get to the property early and walk the corn fields because it was windy... well i got in the corn and the wind totally died down so i got out of there and went to look for somewhere to sit... couldnt find anywhere really to sit and the wind was perfect for my stand so i said screw it and went back to ol trusty...

This is the 4th deer i have taken out of this stand in 3 years.... 3 does and a 10 point.... i love this stand but before tonight the deer were always going around me wide because of the corn field on the other side of the woods...

I have been haunted by a doe with a white spot on the side of her neck and shoulder, i tried to get her all last year and she kept doing something just right so i couldnt get a shot at her.... well i saw her again tonight she had a fawn with her but the fawn was almost as big as her so i was going to take her. well it ended up again she stayed out about 30 yards and not giving me any shot what so ever.. just as i sat down i look behind me and here comes the deer i ended up getting... she came right down where she was supposed to and gave me a 15-20 yard quartering away shot....

i dont think she duct the arrow but i hit her right on the "solarplex"

the spot where you hit deer and they drop in there tracks.... it was pretty freaky because i knew i didnt spine her but i wasnt quite ready to see her drop right there

SPITFIRES......I didnt want her suffering what so ever so i hurried up and wasted another expensive arrow on her and put her down instantly...

my dad wasnt sitting to far away and heard all the comotion (ruined his hunt as i was down and done by like 6-6:30

i gutted her out and took some quick pictures and got out of the woods before the mosquitos killed me....

as we are leaving the property.... STILL LIGHT OUT.... i spot a big deer across the road in the field... told my dad i was pretty sure it was a buck and thought i could see horns.. sure enough got the binos out and there stood i believe an 8 point with a 16-17 in spread (passed his ears).... he wouldnt have came in tonight anyway before dark at least but its nice to know he is around :)

im going buck hunting from now on......

should i go out in the morning you think? I have the day off work tomorrow and wouldnt mind trying to put some more points on the board and maybe find a turkey :)

well i got my butt out of bed this morning and went behind my house.... i would have went back out to the lease land but i made too much comotion and left too much scent around so i went behind my house...

turns out i should have waited until this morning to take a doe... i saw some monster does this morning!!!

i saw 5 does and 2 fawns... and no bucks:( im hoping tonight goes a lot better!!!

saturday morning is duck season so i wont be out saturday or sunday morning for sure... maybe hunt deer those nights though... ill keep you all updated...

I'm not headed out at all this weekend, don't want to stink up the property too much in this heat!! It's starting that time when mature bucks don't like moving, and I figure keeping the pressure off now should pay off when they start picking up again. I'll be doing a few sits on public land in the next few weeks just in case, and who knows, might get lucky.

I hunted over a scrape this morning as well and let this guy walk. He was tearing up that scrape like no one's business.

I figured that since Gunfun and Hawk had their does already, there is a good chance he will make it through the season without getting shot! I can only hope.:lol:

i have been duck hunting... my dad went deer hunting the other night at our lease and said he saw a big buck heading toward my stand around dark (he always gets out of his stand too early because he cant see that good once it gets dark... he said i probably would have had plenty of light to shoot him :( thats how my season is looking haha

I went duck hunting saturday morning and night ... morning at shiawassee... NEVER HIT A DUCK... and then somewhere in lansing with our bows.. didnt get any shots off there.... and then this morning we had a decent morning at shiawassee...
to hot for me to be out in a stand tonight..... ill be out tomorrow night and tuesday night... not wednesday and then ill be out again thursday and friday night..... then not sure what i am doing this next weekend... guessing ill be hunting deer... wait till the flights start coming down before i switch back to ducks....

might have to take some time off work during the rut so i can hunt some mornings:)..... its just around the corner!!!!

I ended up seeing a few does and then the corn field lit up when it got dark.... deer all over... watched a tree get thrashed by what i am guessing was a big buck... but he never came through when it was light... had a little buck come around me but again it was to dark... they trapped me in my stand so i had to sit and wait until i could get down....

cant wait for cooler nights so they come in earlier...

my dad said he was going out to the lease to rattle so i said if you are going out there to rattle im going behind the house... so long story short now he is going behind the house to rattle and i am going out to the lease land :lol: might even use the decoy and rattle myself....

I made it out for a short sit last night after work on some public land. It was my first time hunting this spot and first time using a tree saddle. Well I didn't set up in the best tree because a branch blocked me from swiveling all the way around. Early on, I was moving around trying to figure out how to get a shot in a certain direction, when I heard a branch snap and a tail running away from me:bonk: As darkness approached, I was surrounded by movement, just couldn't see anything because it's very thick cover. I blew a deep loud grunt before climbing down. Hopefully that scared anything off without giving away my position. I'll be at it again all day tomorrow

Almost connected tonight:bonk:, but it was a great hunt regardless. I was hunting a staging area just off one of our food plots. About 6 O'clock my friend texts me and says there is a shooter headed my way. Then about 15 minutes later, I here him grunting through the swamp and making all kinds of noise, and it sounds like he's headed right at me. Around 6:45, I finally get a glimpse through some brush 40 yards away, big body, rack looked decent but I never got a very good look at it. He got about 30 yards from my stand, and stops behind a bush for at least 10 minutes and doesn't move. If he stayed on his path, another 15 steps and he would be in a shooting lane, but if he angled slighly towards me I'd only need another 5 steps. So I hit the can call as quiet as possible, i hear him take a step but never emurges from behind the bush. Now I hear another buck grunting and making it's way towards me. Another 10 minutes pass, I can see the light beginning to fade, so I decide to try the pissing from the tree stand trick. Well it didn't work, but it didn't spook him either. So I sit there until darkness, occasionally hearing him step, but still never coming out from behind the bush. I don't want to give up my position so I'm stuck sitting in the tree in the dark. Then about 10 minutes after I could no longer see my pins, he turns around and walks back into the swamp. From what I saw, I'm sure it was either a 2.5 or 3.5. I suspect it was a 2.5 YO heavily palmated 6pt that we have on cam, if it was he would have gotten that pass, but I was waiting for a better look to determine for sure. Lucky for him I never got the chance.

well last night i tried to help a neighbor recover a 14in 7 or 8 point and of course didnt find it.... they wound a deer or two every year... decent people.... horrible hunters.... so i was pretty bummed about that... it was the 1st night hunting at my grandmas.. not a good start... i saw a few does off in the distance and that was that.... I am not sure if i am going out deer hunting or duck hunting tonight or nothing hunting... kind of depends on the weather i guess..... tomorrow night is out of the question for hunting because i am busy.... so i guess maybe not hunting until wednesday!!! but will keep you all updated....

well, I ended up going out tonight in the rain, and what a screwed up night.. The neighbors where cutting down trees in the adjoining woods. They where close enough that I could hear the tree crash to the ground.. Then they shot there gun, so I think they got a deer, they have a block permit so they hunt with a gun when they want. Here I figured its raining, and should be a quite night concerning the neighbors, boy was I wrong. I'll be back at it tomm night. How is it going for the rest of you guys:confused:

Thats a nice buck. I saw 3 Big Doe, and about 15 fawns, and a big 4 point and some other buck chasing a doe behind me, but I never got to see his headgear. I'll be back at it Tomm.

Tonight was an Awesome night, I didn't get anything, but The rut is kicking in. I saw a lot of deer and will be back out there tomm night again

I saw about 10 deer all together a couple of them were bucks but nothing big... at least i dont think they came in a bit late... ill be hunting a different spot tomorrow.. ill be hunting behind my house... the corn is coming down as i type this across the road so i am hoping all those deer make it either in the corn field that i am hunting or at least in our woods:)

i made a few scrapes last time i was there so i am hoping for a good night tomorrow night... even if the wind is a little squirrelly still
