Fresh Water Forever
Citizen groups from across Michigan to hold public forum in Grand Rapids
Clean fresh water is a precious resource to use and protect for homes, businesses, recreation, and the environment. But a new era of challenges including diversions, pollution, and local overuse now threaten the well being of Michigan residents as well as their groundwater, lakes, and rivers. Please join grassroots groups from across the state at a public forum to discuss how Michigan can secure its unique freshwater resources for future generations.
The forum will be held from 7:00 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 24, 2002, at St. James Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. Guest speakers include Dr. Howard Tanner, former director of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, James Clift, policy director of the Michigan Environmental Council, and Cyndi Roper, state director of Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund. The event is organized and sponsored by the Clean Water Action, Michigan Environmental Council, Michigan Land Use Institute, and West Michigan Environmental Action Council.
The event also is sponsored by the Allens Creek Watershed Group, Center for Environmental Study, Concerned Citizens for Saugatuck Dunes, First United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, Grand Valley Metro Council, Izaak Walton League of West Michigan, Lake Michigan Federation, Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation, People Out of Water, Public Interest Research Group in Michigan, and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council.
