Well I went out and checked the camera tonight and nothing! Absolutely nothing. Not even an event on there. What a bummer. I am not losing hope yet though. It was only out there for a few days. I'll check it again this weekend and move it if need be.

Hope to get my bow back in the next day or two. Shooting really helps keep the outdoor wanderlust down quite a bit. C'mon October 1st!

I never got any good pics on my cam while I had it out, but they are there. Also glassed some decent bucks around another area I am hunting this year, so I know there are a few running around there as well. As far as a doe goes, they are everywhere, so that part should be a piece of cake!

Just about ready for the opener....broadheads are flying good, and I'm starting to organize all my stuff. Just have to wash all the clothes up and load the totes and I'm good to go.

Still haven't gotten my bow back yet. Starting to lose my mind here. I went out and bought a new deer target and then like 2 days later had a string start to fray. So I decided to have the string and cable replaced. Sometimes it is hell living in the middle of nowhere.:lol:

With any luck I will get to check my camera today. I'll keep everyone posted on what pics I get.

I got my bow back today. It must have been badly out of time, because it is so much quieter now that it blows my mind. If I was geeked before, I must be super geeked now. I still need to tweak the site, but the groupings were nice and tight. Seriously it must have been really bad before, because it honestly feels like a new bow now.

Make sure you shoot your broadheads to double check that everything is right on...wouldn't want a flyer when that "contest winner" is standing 20 yards broadside!

well put up a new stand today and have seen about 20 fresh rub's!!!!!! season is almost here boy's!!!!!!!!

Got one of my public land stands up yesterday....woods was really wet, not much for acorns, no rubs, but did have a group of six (does and fawns) come through while I was up in the tree. The big doe at 20 yards broadside was a good sight to see......can't wait! :coolgleam

grim reaper 85 grain! I hit the opposite shoulder and broke the whole dang thing, impact side didn't contact shoulder except maybe the blade. It certainly isn't a giant deer though!

Hey fellas, congrats on the deer! I could not partake in the early doe season, but I'm hoping to contribute some points when the regular season rolls around. I found a nice antler shed of an 8 pt the other day. If he is still around this year, he'll be a real beauty.

Was able to take a doe on the last night of the EAS. No pics yet, but I should have some up as early as tomorrow. Looks like we may be taking the early lead guys...good job! :woohoo1:

Sweet! Glad to hear all the success stories already in September. Usually I have to go down to Ohio for early action.

Just checking in. I also could not participate in the early hunt. I'll be out in full force in October though. I set up a new backup stand a couple of weeks ago up in a very nice secluded pine tree about 15-20 yards from two major crossings.

Being on a team again is great. I missed out last year. It helps to give you that extra edge out in the field when you're not seeing deer......

Went pretty well for me. The best opener ever actually as far as sightings go. Saw 6 does and one little spikehorn. Had shots on 2 of the does and the spiker, but since I bought a combo tag and hunt the UP I can't take any bucks smaller than 3 points per side. And since there are no doe tags available up here I wasn't really looking to jump the gun on a doe 1 hour into the season. I have lots of faith though. This is going to be a good year. I know seeing that many deer isn't a big deal for you guys hunting ag country in the lower. But I am hunting the big woods of Keweenaw county, and that is pretty darn good as far as I'm concerned. Although the does I saw could be the same 2 does 3 different times.:lol: The first little doe that came in still had a faint line of spots running down her spine. Man was she little.

At any rate, I am totally psyched! I really think this is going to be a good year.

Well I got out on Saturday night and didn't see a darn thing. Made it out Sunday night for about 20 minutes, before all the debris falling from the trees convinced me that it was just too darn windy to be out there. Didn't want to leave, but the urge to not get hit on the head from a falling branch overrode my desire to stay. Oh well, hopefully in the next couple of days I'll make it out again, to see what's what.

Only been out once, and all I saw was a thousand squirrels and a dude. Guess it's time to start getting serious, huh!

Well, my new stand is working out so far. It's turning into an afternoon spot. Had three doe move in (mom and two yearlings). They ambushed me from behind and hung out underneath me for about 45 minutes. They headed out behind me and then to my weak side (right). I now have an ambush lane cleared out to my right. There is a trail over there that is more utilized then previously thought.

I was supposed to go up Thursday night and instead my truck was at the dealership all day Friday.

Oh yeah, I was shooting my bow back at the cabin at lunch time and I stopped to pick up my phone to check my messages. I turned around and I had two does coming at me full speed from the food plot.

I'm planning on heading back up this weekend. I'm going to have to put up a morning stand if this keeps up. Nobody saw any bucks the whole weekend. Hum....

I was all set to go out....drove over to the property and saw that the farmer was just starting to take out his beans. Needless to say I didn't feel like listening to a combine all night and figured that the deer would be pushed into the adjacent corn field, so I said heck with it and went back home. :sad:

Really not much to tell yet here, i've only been out twice so far as i have been getting my enduro car ready for a 150 lap:dizzy: race on saturday.
After that is out of the way its all huntin' !! If im not too sore on sunday i plan on a full day. I have a awesome new stand set-up that i have not touched yet, but might save that one for another couple weeks.:D

Hey, just checking in. I have only been able to get out twice and did not see anything either time. I was planning on hunting a piece of airport property again this year for bow season, but the DNR is not giving the airport manager/FBO owner any permits. So, I had to switch gears. I've been souting some state land and I think I have a few spots picked out, but it's still going to take some more time to get organized and set up. This whole working for a living thing really puts the squeeze on my hunting. I hope to be doing some serious hunting by the end of October.

I saw a bunch of deer opening night and haven't seen anything since, with the exception of one deer which I think was a spike eating acorns off about 75 yards through the hardwoods. Man am I getting frustrated. There is just simply nothing going on in my neck of the woods. And I mean nothing. I'm changing it up tonight though. Gonna go hang another stand and at least get to look at some different trees for a while.:rant:

Went out and scouted some potential property today and it just looked to thick for bow season. Most of it was swamp, with the occasional hardwood and soft maple mixed in. I will probably give it a shot during rifle, but I think I will stay away during archery.

Congratulations guys, great to see some bucks going down! For some reason I cannot see any of the pics...oh well, sound like some good deer hitting the dirt!

Still no buck for me yet....in fact I've only seen two off the stand all fall....it's been lousy up here. I have all next week off work, plus the weather is supposed to cool back down, so I'm hoping they are moving a little more in my area.

Well I made it out tonight for the last couple hours. Was pretty slow until I decided to get down from my stand. Made it a little over half way down and one started heading in with its nose to the ground. I damn near leaped back into the stand, and surprisingly made it all the way up before he got there. But unfortunately it was just too dark out. I'm pretty sure it was a small buck. But it was just too dark to tell. Even in the binos. I never had a shot either, and that thing was 15 yards away and didn't care how hard I was hitting that grunt tube. The rut is kicking in!!!!!

O.K i got them loaded finally, It's no monster but it will help with points!:D
Also its been a bit since i shot a buck with the bow.;)
I saw this buck moving paralell out about 75 yrds in front of me and almost to the big briar patch. Hit the can call ONCE and he spun and came right twords my tree on a dead run! I could barely get the call back in my pocket and the release back on the string before he was going right underneath me. I came to full draw and swung with him as he started to 1/4 away, i let out a loud mouth bleat (if thats what you want to call it;)) and he stopped in his tracks at about 8 yrds. Let him have it right behind the last rib and he plowed into the briars. Backed out and went back about a hour later to find he only went maybe 40 yrds.
Now to try for a big one, as of today ,im off till the 18th!!:D:D

The scoreboard ha been updated. We have 52 points, just 4 points out of first place. It's looking good! When we win, our team gets an all expense paid guided hunt in Saskatchewan, right? :rolleyes:

The scoreboard has been updated and it has team #9 w/55 points, which seems correct.
It has our team w/ 52 points which should acutally be 62 points and leading!

Yesterday the 7th i went and hunted some huge private property just south of Nashville Mi (M66).
This is a QDM property with the rules being nothing shot unless it's outside the ears. He takes me to a stand that is in a wooded strip that connects a big swamp to a creekbed. On the right of the stand it drops down a hill to the swamp edge. To the left it is about 30yrds hardwoods then a big grassy green pasture.
I see a nice buck right at first light come out of the creekbed then goes back down in. About 8:00 i see a nice six point feeding his way to me in the grass and passes at about 20 yrds.
I then hear some deer behind me and see a line of does coming down the hill to the swamp. Im watching them for a bit cause now they are just milling around when i glance of to my left (8:45) and see a MONSTER Buck going parallel just out into the grass as he is passing i grab the can call quick, hey, it worked the other day;), do it twice - nothing, so i rip my grunt tube from inside my shirt and hit it twice. He stops in his tracks and starts thrashing his head of horns around then starts stiff legging it right to me!! I cant belive he's coming so i let go of the grunt tube around my neck to get the release back on and as soon as i let go of the call i hear CLANK,
the frickin tube had come apart and the bottom part bounced right off the end of the metal stand!!! I couldnt belive it!! Well the buck of all my deer hunting dreams and the biggest buck i maybe would have ever got a shot at whirls and takes off down into the creekbed. This thing had at least a 20-22 in spread with big LONG tines!! I also passed a nice 8 pt that came in at 5:10 , he was a huge bodied deer but the rack didnt quite meet the rules. He was at 10 yrds 1/4 away from me looking down the hill. saw a few other deer too. It was a awesome day of hunting, and i'm going back a day next week, plus i'm spending opening day of gun season there!:D

I sure wish i could have posted a pic of that buck on here with my hands wrapped around that massive rack , but hey i feel blessed even to have a close encounter with a buck like that, you sure dont see em like that too often, well i sure dont anyways!!!;)

Well guys, it's not looking too good for me turning in a buck for the contest. Been hunting hard all week and they are just not moving up here....not sure what is going on, other than maybe a little lock down. Only saw one buck all week, and that was on Sunday. Don't think I would have shot him anyway, but it would have been nice to at least have one in close! I know that the weather this week hasn't cooperated at all...seems like I'm drying my stuff out after every hunt. Anyway, hopefully I can get on to one after rifle season......yah right! :rolleyes:

Well, how'd everybody do? I went out with a buddy yesterday who ended up shooting a 1.5 year old antlerless buck. It was the weirdest thing, it had a 1" stump from a broken antler on one side, and a button on the other. This happened at bout 9am, and I helped him with that, then sat until about 1:30. We decide to get the deer out of the woods before dark because it was going to ba a long haul and there are a ton of cyotes where we hunt. We were about 2 miles back in the woods by trail. We were so exhausted by the time we got the deer out, we called it a day. Neither of us were too excited about the prospect of going all the way back there, then possibly doing the same thing (hauling a deer 2 miles) all over again at night. If I didn't already have a freezer full of venison, maybe I would have done it. Anyhow, it was a good day even though I didn't tag one.

Well it was a very slow weekend of hunting for me but I did manage to take a doe for some more points. I will get Pics up later this week.
