So any team name suggestions guys?

Acts 11:7

I think the team name should have some type of meaning. We all really should take a moment to give a short bio on ourselves and then maybe we could come up with a name based on common ground.

I'll start... I have been hunting deer since I was thirteen. I am now 30. I have had the fortune to kill more than 20 deer in that time. Although most of those have come since 2000 when I graduated college and have made more time to hunt. 3 bucks that are over a 120". One that scored 149 3/8". Deer hunting is my absolute passion! I video most of my hunts now.

I also love to salmon fish and run my beagle for bunnies! I do some goose and duck hunting. Turkey hunting is quickly becoming one of my favs!!!

Professionally I am a self employed financial advisor. I also volunteer as a football coach for Portland's Varsity. My wife and I have two children, A daughter that is 3 1/2 named Avery and a 15 month old son named Brody. We are regular attendies of South Church in Lansing. We live in Dimondale and I and operate my business out of Portland.

JME reporting for duty! Here's my bio - good idea Acts. BTW, you should all look up Acts 11:7 in the Bible, very appropriate for our team. My name is John, I'm 52 and work at the corporate offices of a franchise company based in Ann Arbor. Ypsilanti, just east of AA, is where I've lived since coming to EMU in '77. Just celebrated my 11th wedding anniversary on Saturday and we're blessed with 3 girls aged 7, 8 and 9. I hunted from about ages 15-18, but not seriously. I really got the bug when I was 30 and have taken 34 deer since then, split evenly between bow and gun. Biggest was an old 8-point bow kill (tooth aged at 4.5 - 5.5 years) that had a heavy but non-spectacular rack of just under 100". Most of my hunting is in in Washtenaw County although this year I'll be in Jackson. Bow hunting is what I really like.

Team names: A couple things jumped to mind and I share them as food for thought. Since we're team 12 we could be "The Dirty Dozen." Another name I've suggested for previous teams is "One Shot, No Cripples" or just "One Shot." How about "Herdinators" or "Antlerminators."

Good luck and God Bless,
John-Ypsi

Hey guys my name is Kyle...my short bio: I'm 23, graduated from EMU this past December and finally got a full time job at the end of March. Its an ok gig, but I'm still out on that search for a job that I can really take ownership in. I'm also preparing to take my GMAT test sometime soon to go back for my MBA. In regards to hunting, I'll be back to hunting just public land this year (Pinckney), and with only a handful of vacation days to use I don't have very high expectations, but you never know I guess. I'll be hunting both bow and gun the entire season as much as I can so hopefully I can snag us at least a doe.

We'll I've had a crazy busy day, so I'll check in all w/ you more a little later this week.

Also don't forget we need to choose a representative for our team, so who all thinks they have a shot at a big one this season?

ps- Acts 11:7 is a great verse

How close are you to the Dansville state game area? I have spent a ton of time in there over the last 8 seasons! I work in Portland, so I hunt out that way now. Two seasons ago I was onto a big one! He was at least a 140!! I had not heard that anyone got him. If you are in Pinckney you can't be that far from Dansville. If you just want a buck I can put you on one for the bow opener out there. If you want to take a crack at the big one...that will take a ton of work.

Go to the DNR web site and print the map. You can also print airiel photo's from mapquest. I can give you some good spots off the phone. The main rub line is in the same spot every year. However I don't want to put that on the internet. I'm sure you can understand that. Call me at 517-647-7157 once you have the map and I will walk you throught the spots. We could meet out there on a weekend if you would like.

Thanks man, will do. Does that area get much pressure in the season, for such a small section of land it seems like it would get pretty packed.

Yes and no. Just like most state land most of the hunters lay claim to the first 400 yds from their truck. It also has farm fields that are planted on it. Many times the corn is never harvested. If you are willing to walk the hunting can be great!

I did a little work trying to come up with a team name. I like the concept of 12 or dozen that was suggested earlier.

The suggested names I liked were Herdinators and Team Whitetails "It's what's for dinner". We could use Herdinators as the name and "whitetails, it's whar's for dinner" as a slogan to go with our logo! Or we could pick any name and still use that as a slogan.

I came up with Team Names: Twelve Gunner (sounds like tail gunner and is a bit catchy)

Twelve Piece
or a Name that uses XII roman numerals for twelve.

The more I think about "Buckthumper" the more I like it. I also like using the number 12 and I love the "It's what's for dinner" slogan. How about "Buckthumper 12" as the name and "It's what's...." as our slogan?

Byron and Acts have some nice bucks in their galleries so I suggest one of them should be our spokesperson. I was gonna vote for Busa-Tom and then I saw the headshot pic in his gallery - gross. You don't want to take that shot with a big buck!

Redmission - I'm a Huron too. Graduated from the B-school in 1980. I also hunt Pinckney, near the eastern border of Jackson County.

Good luck everyone.

Before you guys elect me, I have something to disclose! :)

My wife will be delivering our fifth daughter later this month. I'll still get out plenty, but it may be a little less than in years past. I can pretty much guarantee a doe, but I won't shoot 1.5 year-old bucks, so no guarantees on the buck front.

There, I feel better now!

Best Regards,
Byron :)

I too am in a similar boat. With little one's @ home and coaching I am burning the candle at both ends. However, being self employed I will skip work at a moments notice if I think a big buck is on the move. The land I hunt is a skinney funnel of 17 acres of woods w/ 400 acres of ag land. Every year I have seen a wall mounter on this piece. My three nice bucks came in 99, 00, and 05, so I figure I am due. What is this representative stuff all about?

I like Buckthumper XII for the name. As far as a slogan, "it's what's for dinner" is cool, but if you all wanted to use the Bible verse, by all means.

I'm ok w/ Buckthumper.

I also thought of Full Season XII

And I do like the Bible verse thing...just thinking we could put under our teamname: Acts 11:7 "Slay then Eat" or from another version "Kill these animals and eat them"

I`m all for Buckthumper Team XII . Just got the OK to hunt on a 60 acre 1/2 woodlot 1/2 clover surrounded by corn piece in NW Mecosta County . Always good in early bow, opening day and late season . Saw a 6 pt yesterday that was starting to loose it`s velvet. I teach hunter safety and have a class tonight and saturday . There is 79 in the class , pretty good bunch this year. We get almost an equal amount of buys and girls taking the course now which is kinda cool . Whatever the team decides on name and rep is good with me.

I think he is on a bear hunt.

We need to probably get some things settled by Wednesday. I plan on shooting a doe Thursday to get that part out of the way!!! I hunt alone on the piece that I hunt and it is loaded w/ does. So for the sake of the team, if any of you really need a place to fill a tag we could probably work something out. Also, my friend who owns the ajoining land is having shoulder surgery on 12/1 and he said after that I could hunt his land!! I walked it with him Thursday night and there were rubs everywhere!! We have a "wall mounter only" policy for bucks though.

Who on our team has some computer/graphics ability to design our logo? Some of the logos out there are awesome!!! I dinked around with making one the other day, but I can't hold a candle to those guys. What about this representative thing? Could someone explain it to me so I don't have to look it up?

Depending on where its at I would even be up for whatever, even if its just for doe. I just need some meat for the freezer! I'm totally willing to compensate him too in whatever way just for the opportunity too.

I can fake the logo making process ok, but not the greatest at it. I may be able to get one of my buddies to help out though. As for the rep thing we just need to choose who we think will be most likely to bag the biggest buck this year-simple as that.

Yep, I think it's time for making a decision too. Here's my suggestion...

1) Appoint Byron as our team leader/rep. Heck, with 5 daughters he needs a break from the 'estrogen ocean' and what could be better than leading a bunch of hunters.
2) Byron makes the final decision on the team name.

One more name idea, and then I'll shut up.... How about just "Pointer"? Then we'd be Team 12-Pointer.

Byron - I have 3 kids, all daughters, aged 7, 8 and 9. They are wonderful, perfect kids. Still...5 daughters?

Nice Bear Mudslinger ! I might be culling a doe this week near Shephard Mi . 1 more vote for Buckthumper . I`m all for selecting Byron as the team rep . This will give him more reasons to explain to the wife why he has to spend all of his free time chasing the Big One . " It`s not for me , it`s for the team Honey " :D

Sorry folks. I was in the UP on a Bear hunt. I got one. too!
Sometimes folks refer to my user name as "NEO" for short.

I'm really excited to get going this season. I've been waterfowling pretty hard for a few years and ready to get back into a tree-stand.

I'm 38 years old this month and have a great wife and three Boys 17, 16, and 4. I also have another Boy in the oven (Due New Years Day). I live and work close to thousands of acres of US Forest to hunt. I plan to spend a lot of time there. I almost exclusively hunt public lands and have had some good success so far (knock-on-wood).

I haven't read all of the teams Bio's yet because I wanted to check-in ASAP. I'll go back and read up all of you posts now

Anything I forgot?

P.S. - The team name and logo is great!

Welcome NEO and congrats on the bear!

Yes, I'll be out for just a couple hours in the morning. Wasn't planning to get out since I'm taking a couple kids hunting this year. I was taking one of the kids out on Thur and the other on Sun. The first one had to back out so I'm taking advantage of this spot. Last year I picked up a used H&R Ultra Slugster and can't wait to use it.

Let's get some points on the board!
