Ok I have a little more time now, so here goes: I have hunted for about 7 years with a rifle and this will be my 4th year bow hunting. I have only ever shot one deer, but in my own defense I'm picky. I've passed on a bunch of small bucks every year since I started bow hunting. I'll tell you what though, it is paying off. I quit hunting over bait a few years ago and started watching trails and scrapelines more and am seeing better deer every year. Just waiting for one to come within range. This will be the year! I can feel it.

I hunt Keweenaw county for archery and houghton/keweenaw counties for gun. There are no doe permits available up here for rifle season so don't count on a doe from me. Although depending on what I see in the next couple of weeks I might take one with the bow if presented with the opportunity.

So how's everyone's season looking so far? I went out and did a bunch of scouting this weekend and saw a whole lot of bear sign. Way more than I have ever seen in that area. So hopefully I don't have any close encounters.:yikes: Other than that I found a great spot to put another stand. I also put the camera out, so hopefully I'll have some pics on Wednesday or so.

Man I can't wait for October!

Hey guys, just checking in. My name's Brian and I have been deer hunting for about 24 years now. I signed up for bow only since I don't get into rifle hunting all that much.....maybe that will get us a few of those bonus points! Anyway, I hope to at least contribute a doe this fall....I mainly hunt public land and usually hold out for a good buck, so nothing is a guarantee there. Look forward to spending the fall chatting with you guys...hope we get some good participation!

MuskyDan is in the building!! I am a deer hunter of 25 years now, man am I old. I signed up for bow only. Season is looking great for me so far I have seen several different bucks moving through my area and I am going over around the Shiawassee State Game Area to smack a few does for the early season. Should be a great year and fun contest. Love the name and logo.

So the name is Vital Impact? Sounds good to me, but you can't really read it on the sig image. I could probably work on a larger one if you guys want.

Hey Dan...so you are hunting over at the SRSGA in October? Whereabouts are you going in at...maybe we could hook up for a few hunts! Not sure if you remember me or not, but we were in that flyfishing class together back at Delta years ago...yeah, that was awhile ago!

Also got my public land antlerless permit, plus I may be going out with the bow for the early season next week...can't wait to whack some doe's!

Quickdraw

I agree that the team name should be larger so it can be more visible in the small image.

MuskyDan
09-09-2008, 05:39 AM
Yup, team name is great. I have no idea how to make it larger or smaller so I can't help with that. I also haven't ever spent anytime on the Ohio site so I probably shoudln't be the rep if someone else wants to. I could, but certainly don't need to if someone else wants the job. Yes, I will be hunting the game area the first part of October, 1-31 we should meet up and hunt together sometime.

You go in by boat or walk in?

My uncle is a farmer and has property on the extreme Southeast corner of the SGA. He borders what was once called the federal marsh. Though the hunting isn't great there anymore the access is great. I generally walk in there or just hunt the ditches that run through his corn fields. Should be a good year as he has all corn back there this season. I am pretty geeked about this season, there are always does back there and should be fairly simple to put up 5 points for the cause next week. I am also hunting in Birch Run, my wife and I have a 20 acre parcel and there are some bruisers running around I would guess a solid 150 ten point and an incredible 130-140 eight point.

Good afternoon fellas!

I live in Dearborn Heights, MI. I've been a gun hunter all my life off and on. I use to hunt in Atlanta Michigan. 5 years ago I started bow hunting and now I'm hooked. I'm trying to decide whether or not to go peepless after the season. I also need to start attending some 3-D shoots next year.

I selected the bow only hunt for the contest.

I will be hunting on my brother-in-laws property up in Chase (Reed City) Michigan. He has 40 acres and we have another 100 next to us that we are free to use since we are the only bow hunters.

We have implemented some deer management rules for taking bucks. I should be good this year for a doe and hopefully take a nice buck. I will get up there four to five times with two extended weekends this year. We do usually bait but it's not a big thing with us. I don't expect the ban to affect my hunts. We have a couple of food plots that are at their end (time for lime), but they will still draw them in.

Not that I'm going to bait, but does anyone know what the fines are going to be if you're caught baiting?

I wish everyone a successful hunt and if there is anything that I can do to help anyone out, then please let me know. I'm heading up this weekend to put our stands back out (a lot of thieving going on up there). I'll send some pics next week.

I was on the winning team back in 2006 and that was a lot of fun. It sounds like we have some good guys here so let's go stick'em!
