i picked bow,..... you?

bmoffit
09-08-2008, 09:11 AM
BOW also!!

PiercedOne
09-08-2008, 09:26 AM
I picked gun only but do plan on hunting some with a bow. I am truly a meat hunter so once the freezer is full then its time to look for some trophies.

wildcoy73
09-08-2008, 10:11 AM
Went with both.
Figure the first couple weeks of October are going to be a big change for the main place I hunt. Last year It took a bit to figure out why The deer where not in the oaks, The hunting pressure went way up.
Now this year year is so up in the air with cwd and no baiting, I need to see what this does to the deer movement, and to the hunters. Will sit tight the first week to see what the other hunters are doing, Than may go into some stalking from that point if it shows I can get away with it.

dhunter_83
09-08-2008, 10:49 AM
anyone going to be able to hunt the first season on the 18th i will be trying to get us on the board:D and put some fresh back straps in the freezer

wildcoy73
09-08-2008, 10:55 AM
Will be out on the 18th in the am. have a small parcel to hunt near the house.
Should be out for ducks with the boy that weekend, and than the youth hunt the following weekend.

DoubleDropTineTrouble
09-08-2008, 12:39 PM
I'm trying to free up that weekend for the early doe hunt. Hopefully it all works out and we can put some points up early on.

I'm listed as a combo hunter. Hunting pressure and the timing of when the farmer who leases the land takes the corn down dictates so much of how the hunts go in my area that its tough to pin it down to one season. I'll be hitting both pretty hard this year.

Where are all of you hunting. For me, its southern Calhoun county mainly with a few week nights in livingston co public land. and a long weekend in the pigeon river.

DoubleDropTineTrouble
09-08-2008, 12:40 PM
Any of you guys (gals?) use trail cams? I'm trying to finish a homebrew to get out there and scout. Its slow going right now though.

bmoffit
09-08-2008, 01:22 PM
I hunt private land in Genesee County most of the season except for a bowcamp with college friends in Otsego County. Good luck to you guys that are going out early, I usually wait until late season to drop a doe.

wildcoy73
09-08-2008, 01:25 PM
I will be doing most of my hunting in kent county and montcalm county.
(0% of my hunting is on public land. May head up north for a few days during rifle season.

PiercedOne
09-08-2008, 02:14 PM
I have permission to hunt a small parcle in macomb county for early season, hoping to get another lined up in lapeer county too. Do most of the rest of the hunting up in ogemaw county on public land..
Have a new trail cam but no good place to put it as I dont have a security box for it yet.
Want to put a more rounds thru the 870 as it hasnt seen slug work in a while. And always need more pratice with the 7mm (real long gun as it called in deer camp)

bmoffit
09-08-2008, 03:13 PM
Check out my gallery. I got a few good shooters on the trail cam already!!

hello everyone just checking in. I am so ready for a great season! I am choosing not to go the early season though. The no bait thing is going to make bow season very intresting. Seperate the men form the boys or (ladys if we have any)!

Hello everyone just checking in. Just starting to get geared up for hunting its tough this time of year still alot of good fishing left. I might be hunting early season as I am going to be up north for bear season (I am not hunting friends got permits) depends on what day they shoot bears whether I will shoot a deer.

bmoffit
09-10-2008, 07:56 PM
Does everyone like Vital-Impact. I think we need to finalize this so no one else steals the name if we're going to stay with it. Also who wants to volunteer to represent us against Ohio?

I guess I'm just a little excited to get things moving along and get October here sooner!!!!!!:yikes:

bmoffit
09-10-2008, 08:03 PM
If you check the ohio sportsman website in there contest forum, it will explain the mi vs oh contest. I didn't get what is was about until I checked there. Sounds like fun competion!

dhunter_83
09-10-2008, 09:28 PM
vital impact sound good to me it covers both gun and bow but i will let you guys decide

DoubleDropTineTrouble
09-10-2008, 09:36 PM
is it vital impact or silent harvest? I'm up for either.

Anyone got a decent shot at a nice buck this year?? Those ohio boys don't mess around. I'd like to get another one with my bow like last year, but it took 13 years to connect with that one.

dhunter_83
09-10-2008, 09:37 PM
hey i would be up to the challenge of going against ohio

wildcoy73
09-10-2008, 09:40 PM
hunt mainly public land so hope one of you guys may step up to ohio.
Have one big boy running around for the last three years but have not been able to see him during hours.

dhunter_83
09-10-2008, 09:43 PM
hey just thinking we should be able to hunt there (ohio) and they should be able to hunt here since it is a deer hunting contest
so a michigan hunter tags a buck in ohio or ohio hunter tags in michigan still would count in the state competion for the state that the hunter is representing just a even playing feaild.

gnccox77
09-10-2008, 10:02 PM
I`m game fo either name sounds cool to me.they logged out my woods last year and now it`s so thick I cant get to my stands.I` m not sure if I should sickle me a trail or walk all the way around the woods.Kind of sucks but I`ll bet it makes an awesome bedding area for that big 12 point I`ve been seeing.:evilsmile

bmoffit
09-10-2008, 10:34 PM
MY BAD I meant Silent Harvest...I was looking at another teams post. I like Silent Harvest better anyways. i think i have a pretty good shot at a good buck this year. I have new spot that (believe it or not) has received no hunting pressure in a long time. I have gotten 5 good bucks on camera. I'm not the greatest scorer on the hoof but I've passed them around and 2 are in the 145"-150" class and the others are between 125"-135". I pulled the camera out last week to keep me out of there....boy was that hard to do. As far as the Ohio thing goes...I'm up for whatever the group decides.

TEAM SILENT-HARVEST

wildcoy73

Special Purpose
09-11-2008, 08:12 AM
Silent-Harvest sounds like a good name to me. I am not into this scoring stuff what is your idea of a good buck for this ohio contest? I gun hunt at a hunt club upnorth we only shoot bucks that are four point or better on one side so typically eight point or larger however I did shoot a nice seven point last year.

bmoffit
09-11-2008, 08:52 AM
My understanding of the ohio contest is basically the same as this contest. They are taking one hunter from each team to make a team to put up against ohio. The scoring is the same 5pts for a deer additional point for each antler over 1".

If we can get the rest of the team to post about Silent-Harvest being our name today, I'll pm the mod with the name so it doesn't get taken!!!!

dhunter_83
09-11-2008, 08:59 AM
a good buck to go against ohio i think would be a good eight and anything that hits the ground bigger would be great but its more what you are wanting to take the property that i hunt has a gentleman agreement not to shoot the 2.5 year old bucks and this all started about 8 years ago. the letter we got explains that there is now 14 square miles involved but i cant say that everone in the area is going to pass these little ones, but in the last 3 years the quality of bucks we are seeing as gone way up cant wait for the season:D

DoubleDropTineTrouble
09-11-2008, 01:08 PM
Vote 6 for silent harvest. I think that's good enough to call it official. I'd agree that an 8 would be a decent entry. I know i'm personally holding out for at least that this year. Not a garauntee, but lots of 6's got a pass last year. I know i'm taking at least one doe this year. Depending on hunting partners maybe more, so if that weighs into the points at all.

I'll try to work on that logo tonight. I'll try to come up with a few and you guys can pick one.

bmoffit
09-11-2008, 01:46 PM
Good enough for me I'll send it through to the proper authorities. As far as big bucks ...I'm setting some pretty high standards this year for myself. Three 10 pts and possibly a 12pt on the trail camera so I'm holding out for at least a 10......now the standards may drop a little come December first, but I'd like to say I'm disciplined enough to hold out for the big one!!

wildcoy73
09-11-2008, 01:50 PM
Silent-harvest is the name to go with.
Now next thing is getting one of you to be our rep for ohio.
I vote at this time for bmoffit or special purpose.

Special Purpose
09-11-2008, 02:19 PM
bmoffit with those kind of deer on your trail cam you get my vote for our ohio rep.

bmoffit
09-11-2008, 03:22 PM

DoubleDropTineTrouble
09-11-2008, 03:24 PM
im voting for bmoffit too. Hopefully you can tip that 12 over!

DoubleDropTineTrouble
09-11-2008, 11:07 PM
alright...here's the first round. I'll work on some more over the weekend or tomorrow if i get a chance. any feedback is good.. i've realized it sucks having a long screen name!

These can be resized for the restrictions and that stupid m-s logo will not be there of course.

09-12-2008, 02:10 PM
I'm up for the task but i'd like to wait and hear from those that haven't voiced their opinion in case someone else was looking forward to that part of the contest. Either way I wish they would post our team name already, I pmed the mod but nothing yet.

If you think you got the best chance at whackin the deer to go against Ohio then its all you bmoffit. I know I wont be bringing in the toad but getting my first buck would be nice.
As long as we kick thier butts thats all that matters to me. OhhowIhateohiostate.... Not just the school but the entire state. :smile-mad

Sorry I have been so silent guys. I really like Silent Harvest!! Hunting wise I shoot does one for meat in the freezer and because there is an abundance of them where I hunt. We do have a 12 roming around. Also had a nice 8 early probably would have been bigger given more time, we found dead. So what kind of acreage are we all hunting? I got 300 corn field with around 10 acres woods that I'm on and another 60 of swamp pines and maples around me.i am new to this site when I set it up I spelled hoyt wrong anyone know how to change that?

dhunter_83
09-12-2008, 10:36 PM
the land i hunt in 067 is an 80 that is 60% open and 40% wooded long rolling hills we have 9-10 corn 6 bowhunting plots(0.5-1.0) with different seeds in each with a few mixes 3 types of clover, turnip, rape, chicory, and some buckwheat 3 plots have a mix of clover and green patch plus its a great set up the land next to us has all of the hard woods you could want and cedar swamp border 2 sides of our 80 with a over grown tree farm to the back

dhunter_83
09-13-2008, 12:05 PM
