Thanks for the report HD.

I haven't fished Wamplers in a couple years. Before I had a boat I used to wade out off the point west of the beach at Hayes State Park. Got about waste deep and would hammer the Crappie there. Pulled a couple bass out of the lilly pads there with Panther Martin spinners too.

Took my small boat out there with just an electric trolling motor to try it out when I got it. The wind made my trip a short one. Now that I've upgraded to a 5 horse gas motor I'll have to try it again soon.

Thanks again.

Chris

EDIT: Almost forgot, :Welcome:to the site!

Rupestris, thank you for the welcome, sounds like you have a nice boat for wamplers I went out there in an 18 footer with a 150 merc the water at the launch is shallow 2-3 foot, there are a few spots in the middle of that lake the are shallow also 2-3 foot so watch out :yikes: save your prop

With my old 28 Lb thrust electric the wind put me in the rocks before I could get out of the canal between Round lake at the campground and Wamplers. Got rid of that egg beater in a hurry. I went to a 48 Lb electric then a 5HP gas. It moves pretty good now but I had a couple spooky excursions at first.

A friend of my mother used to own the cottage on the canal near the bridge, across from the launch. After she sold it I stopped going to Wamplers.

I guess I could pony up the few $$ and try it again from the state park.

My wife and I decided on a day on Wamplers what a fun day it was but no fish to speak of. First mistake was stopping at Cabelas for bait becaus I do not know of a bait shop between Wamplers and the Michigan line?(HELP OFF 23 and 50?) comming from the Ohio line. No one working the minnows which were chubs anyway so crawlers and "panfish" worms were the meal.
We went out the state park and tried the beach, condos and all the normal spots but only 4 very small perch. There must be a great perch population waiting for a few years be on someones table. I'm very glad to see that!
We ended up fishing at the far west end where my wife was reeling in a little bluegill and WHAM there was a splash. Here either pike or bass had its eyes on the fish she had hooked. I LOVED IT!
NO I didnt see it but sure heard the splash. That made our day in itself.
After a dinner stop at Jerry's,(AWESOME WINGS) we went back and gave our worms to a mom who was teaching her kid to fish. She had a bobber hooked to a rubber worm and I offered our livebait. They caught 2 little gills as we watched and thought about how it was when our kids were young.
As we were leaving and a drive thru the beach area I couldn't help wondering why so many trees were cut down. Disease?
No fish to clean but sure was worth the fuel to just hear that splash caused by ?? .

Thats a sweet little boat, Rupestris. You'd be surprised at how you can sneak up on fish with one of those smaller boats.

Real good lake to fish. Now that the summer is mostly over, it will be a good time to get out in the eve and night for eyes.
