Hey Guys had a question about deer consumptions up there, My wifes grandmother lives in up there and said that a game warden told her that all deer to be harvested for consumption needs to be tested first?? Is there a encephalitis outbreak?

No there was a case of Cronic Wasting Disease (CWD) found in a Kent county deer farm. There is a list of counties that it is manditory for any deer harvested to be checked. Go to www.michigan.gov/dnr (http://www.michigan.gov/dnr) for the list. Basically its in the Grand Rapids and surrounding area. There is a lower peninsula ban on baiting for the this hunting season and yet to be determined amount of time. If your wifes grandmother is not on the list of counties on the dnr website, you have no worries. On top that there is no report of any deer to human transmission of CWD from eating venison.

thanks for the info she is from Romulus, we were talking about it in some forums down south and we thought it sounded more like it was being treated as precaution against disease. Then just checking for CWD

Howdy, Where about's in Romulus does she lives? I'm also from Romulus, S.E. of the airport. Not much deer hunting going on her, all private land.
Another interesting fact. My sister and her family live in Georgia.

Wow! I didn't realize private land owners don't hunt. Is it illegal now? What am I going to do with all this bait? :D

Guess I mis-spoke. I really meant that this area is a suburb.
Not too many areas where you could gun hunt cause of saftey rules (if it's still legal to use firearms in the city limits. It was last I knew some 10 yrs ago). And not too many areas large enough to bow hunt w/o taking a chance that your deer will run off into a nieghbor's backyard.
I'm sure he was refering to Mich in general. Just trying to make conversation.
Oh, and about the bait. Does anybody have a recipe that you can use "Buck Jam" in. I've got 4 gals. to get rid of.
