Gone Fishing

Today looked like one of the better days of the week so I took a vacation day and headed out solo to the Canadian side about 2 miles ESE of the weather buoy. Slightly falling barometer, nice chop, stained water, good bait onboard, what else could a Perch fisherman ask for? Only thing missing was some cloud cover but you can’t have everything. Anchored down about 8:15 and quickly realized it was going to be a short day if I kept my normal 8 inchers and above. I decided to try to keep 10’s and better which kept me on the lake till about noon. Had to weed through quite a few fish to get a limit of 10’s + but it was a lot of fun. I didn’t get any real wide body slabs but most fish were in the 10 – 11 range with a couple 12’s in the mix. All in all, it was a good day and a whole bunch better than working. I think it’s about that time when the Perch fishing is going to get real HOT. Can’t wait to get out again! Take care and good fishing! John
Here is a pic of today’s catch. I don’t know if they look as big in the picture but I don’t think there are many under 10 in. YUM YUM

Good job John. I'm on vacation next week, specifically to perch fish and the anxiety is getting a little high after your report. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I get out all 5 days. I've heard good reports off of the Basset too.............Steve

Man that brings back the fond memory of the perch at the Salmon Slam.
If you guys didn't know it, John can not only catch them but he can cook the hell out of them too.
Fine catch.

Nice bunch of S-L-A-B-S Gone Fishing!!! I have never in my life came close to catching a limit of that magnatude. That's it! I'm getting a Canuck license next season. I proud if I can catch a limit of 7's and up with most leaning toward the 7 side of the spectrum. Great job!!!:D
YUMMMM Nice going John. Find any Emeralds yet?

ESOX, I stopped at Metro bait Monday night to check out their supply and to my surprise they had nice big silver sided, dark back shiners that were as close to Emeralds as you can get. The Perch were quite impressed also! ;)

Nice job "Gone Fishing", got this gut feeling that this may be a banner year. Temps are dropping down nice in the evening, water is cooling off nice, hope not to nice to make it hard water and the "emeralds" are starting to show up. If we can keep the boats in till late November, early December, we should be fat all winter.
Hope to see you out there this weekend. Ch. 68!
Work like you need the money!
Live like it is heaven on earth!;) ;)

Wedn. was a wash tried many spots in close with no luck . Could'nt get out to hot spots, to much wind. Had trouble with two anchors to hold. We'll get em next week. Headed up north for some steel on the beach.

Man George, I felt bad for you guys. Tubejig sent me a PM at 7 AM asking if the conditions were as bad on LSC as they were by his house. I regretfully informed him that they were and the weather buoy had 7 footers at 6 AM. Probably be a couple days before the middle of the lake cleans up again. Hopefully your next trip will be better. I'm sure jealous of the retired guys that can pick their days.
Dick, the family is doing fine. Thanks for asking. Paul has a couple weekends off between soccer and hockey so I hope to get him out a couple times for some of that great Perch action. The Mrs. is a fair weather fisherwoman. If the temps get in the 60's with light wind, you might see her out there. Take care and good luck! John

Ugly is the word for the weather yesterday. George, it was
nice to once again see you and thankyou for taking me out,
I had fun even though the water was bumpy and we didn't
get many fish. I hope you have a safe weekend and good
luck fishing. The bungee did leave a mark:eek:   .
