View Full Version : Major rule change for squirrel season 2008
Thunderhead
09-01-2008, 10:16 PM
For Immediate Release :
Pursuant to act:12A, Paragraph:C Section:8
DNR Policy Regarding Summer Drought Conditions Adversly Affecting Michigan Wildlife.
It has been determined that 2008 Summer drought conditions have severely affected the squirrel population in many of Michigans counties resulting in massive squirrel loss. To counter this trend, FEMALE squirrels will be illegal to harvest or have in possession during the 2008 small game season.
Therefore, It is hearby ordered that only the harvesting of MALE squirrels will be allowed for the 2008 Michigan squirrel season.
This temporary restriction will ensure healthy squirrel populations for future seasons.
Penalties for violating this restriction will include fines of 1500.00 per squirrel and revocation of hunting priviliges for 3 years.

Funny.... I am almost postive you posted the same thing last year. A lot like when I asked the new guy on my crew to run to the truck and get the block stretcher.

I think that is right next to the beam stretcher, and right behind the piston return spring.

Looks like I'll have to buy a MUCH more powerful scope so I can see the "business end" of the squirrel before I mistakenly harvest a female.
Don't want to risk missing out on 3 seasons of deer and turkey hunting because I took a Ho-beeotch squirrel (that's the native American name for a female squirrel, in case you didn't know)
Males only.......that's cool, but can we use bait for them??? :evilsmile

Sure, 2 kernals of corn and an oak tree. Be sure you only have your daily limit as it is the same as the season limit or is it the other way around. Anyway watch out for all the nuts in the woods, one may drop in on you.

While at the Birley Park Flea market yesterday I overheard a guy telling his buddy that the every few years the Maple tree in his front yard bears acorns and this was the year.
I was so dumbfounded I did not think to ask him where this tree was located so I could take some pictures of it.
