I am going to be fishing McGregor Bay Sept 12-18 and have never fished it for muskies and was hoping someone could give me some tips on lure/color selection and if anyone feels up to it types of locations.
I have fished it 5 times but it has been 6 years and I justed picked up musky fishing for the last 3-4 years so I am questioning my thoughts about lure selection. I know where alot of good weed beds are and such but have never seen a musky up there, usually fished there during mid July with standard bass gear.
Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks and good fishing, Pat

I've never fished there but I've fished musky this time of year other places late july though september I did well using orange and black bucktails and silver and black suicks, if you were gonna troll I;d reccomend a silver and black believer

hope this helps

Muskies are not quite a needle in a haystack in MacGregor, but they aren't easy to come by either. As usual with muskies though, lure color is not nearly as important as its action. If you know where there are some nice deep weeds (>8'), or weeds real close to deep water (>20'), if you are using bigger lures fished fast with erratic action- that will probably be your best odds. Georgian Bay muskies are notorious for spending much of their time suspended over/around deep water structure though, so if you're not seeing any in the weedbeds where they would be after a quick meal, you would probably want to be trolling out around the deep water stuff- reefs and ridges etc. Bucktails are always good in shallow water, I prefer jerkbaits for working weedbeds, especially if they are fairly thick or deep. If you plan on trolling, try 10" Jakes. Good luck!!
