Smallies near Marquette

Hi, I have a friend in town this weekend and wanted to hit the water for some shore fishing and was looking for some smallies or northern. We are limited to fishing from shore becuse my canoe is out of order right now. I have been thinking about the usual Deer Lake and Harlow but was looking for some other ideas if anybody would like to share. I have been mostly stream fishing lately and kind of out of the warm water loop. Any adivce would be appreciated.

Try Dead river.

Ended up going up to Deer Lake and Cedar Lake and caught...Zippo. At least we got out. Thanks for the tip, I have only fished the Dead for trout and salmon. I am guessing the smallies may be near the big lake in the slower water?
