Just curious how some of you perch fisherman did on Lake Erie near the Metro Park. There were alot of boats out there seemed like the school moved in.

We had two layout sets just a little north near Celeron Island for the duck opener. We caught a few fish shy of a 5 gallon bucket.

goosewa - I fished for walleye just north of the pack of boats and was south of # 2 can. I felt bad for the duck hunters with all the guys doing the pre-fish for the bass tourny sun. There was a guy just north east of the # 2 can in a layout boat that looked like he had lots of boat traffic. Also there was a duck hunting boat s.e. corner of celeron the had bass fisherman pretty close to be able to do any good duck hunting ! That pack of boats was not catching alot when I was near them. But maybe there was an early bite. Maybe someone from that group will respond.

Fatboy,

That was US!!!! That layout boat just east of the #2 can was one of the two we had set. There were a couple occasions that I had to stand up and get a couple of boats to break their course. They were almost right in the middle of our decoys.

The fishing was decent up until 11:00 am. Then it stopped. You were in the group of boats near the end of the long dike (AKA: Livingstone Channel)?

goosewa - i was drifting from about 150 yds south of # 2 can down to the group of boats to the south (15 - 20 boats there) i was watching what was happening with the layout boat you were in. man the boats would be headed right at you and every time i;m thinking oh no ! how many ducks did ya get ?

Fatboy,

Did not have to worry about shooting any birds. There are not divers down here on Erie yet. Think we only had 4 maybe 5 birds work the decoys.

That is the first time that I layout hunted opening day. There are just too many boats out to make a layout hunt productive (not to mention there were no divers). Usually we just stick to hunting the marshes.

Goose, I saw you guys out there, too. I was fishing in a small group near the cross dike, then I went out to that pack, it was about 11:00. I tried to keep well away from you guys on my way out there. By the time I got there, there wasnt anything going on, I should have stayed by the cross dike.

PerchJerker,

Thanks for giving us the extra space. I wish there were more fisherman like you and Fatboy. I would do the same thing if we were setting our layout rigs out.

We did really good on the perch until the 11:00 hours. It slowed down after that. The Cross Dike is usually a good spot really early.

I was out on Monday afternoon near the 3 buoys off of Lee Rd. and the fishing really picked up after the winds increased, kept 25 fish over 9 inched, several 11-12 inchers, tossed back at least 25 small ones, hope to get back out there Sunday...
