:lol::lol::lol:
Guess I better start this out with a laugh.Forecast is still callin for "1ft or less" here in the joe,:lol::lol::lol:.They must have gotten there tapemeasure from china, cuz there 1ft is more like 5ft.Well, out past 80ft anyways, which would be like 3 miles out.Calm to 1ft,,,,,,,,,,:dizzy: sure,,ok :16suspect...
Forecast was the same this am when I headed out.Had planned on taking my granddaughter with but after stepping outside knew better.Hit the pier around 6am and headed out.Hit the 60 marker and I start sparying water pretty good.100 ft and I'm sparying REAL good.Calm to 1ft,,,:16suspect.Trolled out to 140 and the hillbilly auto pilot was out drinkin cuz I was all over the place.Turned and went into them which was somewhat better but after taking several waves over the bow I started cussin that noaa boy.That and his china made tape, cuz calm to 1ft was no where to be seen :lol:.Did manage to get a few fish but that put the fire drill off with me trying to steer and fight a few rather mad kings.Ended up going 2 for 6 with a couple lures to the fishin gods,,,(calm to 1ft,,,) and some more kings for the smoker.Maybe they'll call for 10fters and the lake will be flat,aagh "calm to 1ft",yeah ok.

Calm to 1 foot my dorsal posterior this AM out of Whitehall.

I wonder if NOAA has a better forecasting percentage with rough seas vs. calm seas?

I think all NOAA forecasters should experience one of their forecast & ride shotgun with me.

Scot, When I stepped out on the back porch for my AM coffee and smoke I knew it was going to be a bad day. By 0600 the wind had die'd at my house so off I went SOLO. The troll out to 90' wasn't too bad until I turned around. Was doing some serious thinking about a PFD.

I'm with you guys on that, the NOAA forecast has been nearly worthless this year.

I use the Aviation Wind forecast (http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KMKG&model=avn&state=MI) a lot. It's been pretty accurate on wind speed and direction. You'll need to use a little experience and common sense when figuring out what the waves might be, and the fact that it's slightly inland.

Also, use the Muskegon (http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/metdata/mkg/) Meteorological Observation's Plot & Data of Previous 3 Hours (http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/metdata/mkg/prev3.html) for Wind Speed and Direction. If it's been 15 kts out of the SW for the last 3 hours you know darn well it's not going to be less than 1 foot out there.

The GLCFS Wind Forecast (http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/glcfs.php?lake=l&ext=wn&type=N&hr=00) can be helpful also since the NOAA forecast (http://weather.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/fmtbltn.pl?file=forecasts/marine/near_shore/lm/lmz848.txt) covers most of the west coast as one unit.

For daylight times, the Muskegon (http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/metdata/mkg/) Meteorological Observation's web cam pics can give you a real good idea how it is out there.

These and more links are on my Area Weather (http://www.fishous.com/weather/) page.

We went out of Port Sheldon Monday morning the midlake buoy said 1.6ft waves, we got out there and I just had to laugh. They were definently 4-5 footers.

On a side note you have to remember one thing about our friendly mid lake buoy that is full of crap when it comes to measuring wave height. The buoy only measures the height of the wave above normal level. So if normal level is 0 and the buoy rises to 2 feet higher than normal it only measures a 2 foot wave.:banghead3:banghead3:banghead3:banghead3:bang head3 What the designer forgot to remember is that with a 2 foot wave you also have a 2 foot trough. So if my calculations are right that is a lets see 2+2=4 yea a FOUR FOOT WAVE.

There is an article on the noaa wave buoys on espns outdoors section. They explain the flaw that is the noaa wave buoy.
