Ok so me and Dan from Thunder River Outfitters went back and forth for a while and figured we would leave it up to everyone on the site..
He wants to paint it I want to stain it with a waterproof seal in a dark cedar or something similar..
What do you think?

I'd stain it with a water proof sealer then put brush, branches etc around it to help conceal it.

I would paint the roof with some brush on roof coating and use and leave the sides age to a light gray color then use a stain on them. Looks good as it is and sounds like you guys had fun building it.

Dan and I went back there today and you guys did a great job, yet for this I would have to say waterproof stain because of the wood roof.

Ya mean like:
"Sodas" - My vieja cooks good and sodas her sister.
Cetol is a wood preservative (like varnish) used to coat teak on boats. Varnish is only good for 1-2 years, but cetol stands up to abuse for 4-5 years...longer if not degraded by sun and salt spray.

Slap a piece of 50mil. rubber roofing on top. Then paint it black and add something to break up the outline. That's what I do to mine. Usually screwing in branches to the side. Don't forget to paint the inside black too or you'll get picked off.

The roof is way too pretty to cover it with rubber - or anything else for that matter...:D

He is making his own assumptions.. we have time! That thing is just too pretty to cover up and the deer will get used to it as long as you leave it be after it is stained.. Either way I think I did a pretty good job!
They forgot to take the picture of you in the chair bossing us around!
That is a joke... Dan worked almost as hard as me.. :D

Cetol is a little outdated. I would use the sickens srd (same company) although a little pricey.
Home depot carries a flat black barn paint that is pretty durable stuff..I dont remember the brand but it has an orange label.
Where is the PICTURES!!!

much to pretty for paint. srd is about $30 a gallon. which would probably be plenty. I think in the long run its a good buy.

Paint it. Look at the big stores for paint that was brought back and find an exterior paint you can live with. That is what I do and you can pick up a gallon for $5. If you use an oil base stain you will not be able to paint over it with out problems.

Brown wood stain
Thank You!
If a man were to build that blind & purchase that wood and all the supplies used that would not be a cheap build so why go cheap with paint..
The cedar typ or walnut stain is what I was talking about and would last alot longer and hold up better to the weather than paint IMO.

After the Mcikey D burgers I smelled something from time to time, though I don't think it was cedar...:yikes:
BTW Dan, I forgot to thank you and the lovely missus for the lunch. It sure hit the spot!
And speaking of the missus...I'm guessing the "other" pictures (from the temporary camera stoarge area) didn't turn out?:D

Cass - All i got to say is you better have voted for stain!
And I will be the first to admit that I had my doubts on a few things and thought Dan was crazy but it turned out just the way we wanted and even better in the end between both of us going back and forth all day bouncing ideas of each other as we went.. But, I must say Dan gets most of the credit for this one..:lol: ------------------------
And Gottahunt & Michigander88 gets the rest!

One thing to think about before you buy stain or paint is that that lumber is green. With the water content in it now I don't know how good stain or paint will stick to it. If you would leave it until Sept it should be fairly dry and you may be alright. With the wood being exposed to air on all sides now so it should dry fast.

Dan,
Driving to work this morning a commercial came on the radio that reminded me of you. It started out "Not all Super Hero's wear capes."
My belly still hurts from laughing so hard...
