i took my woman out to the bridge the other night, and we fished (on shore) from the rocks.. alls i gots was a couple little rock bass. i did hook into a fish that felt good but i didn't get a good hook up and i lost it...

i've caught a couple of walleye from shore out there, earlier in the year, but do you guys think if i keep going back, i'll be able to get one or two decent fish for a nights fishing? or is it too late in the year to catch anything out there?

also, i've got a 13ft aluminum boat w/ a 10hp motor.. my grandpa said he used to go out there and drift.. i was wondering what you guys think if i took it out there and went down river a little ways? i know under the bridge it gets real rough sometimes, but on a good night, with a calm west wind, do you think i'd be okay out there?

Personally, I think a 13 footer is to risky for the river or lake, you could wind up 6 foot under. I used to do pretty well at night right off the beach there, but that was when the lake level was a little higher and I went in with weighters. I would suggest that if your casting from shore, try out the big river south of BR that may be a better choice, but it has been quite slow this year......good luck!!

The walleyes are up there for sure keep on going and you will hook into some soon! Im a little crazy so I would take that 13ft out on the river but I dont know about going north of black river with it. Just watch the weather forcast and marine report before going out! I have a 15ft aluminum and I have problems with 2 ft waves. And even on nice days/nights you have to watch out for the other a--holes. And I would stay away from wekends with something that small!

funny thing is, i saw a few guys in ~12ft boats out there..... and i saw a guy in a ~16ft almost get swamped by a freighters wake...

I know i've been out on the lake once with the little boat.. but we were fishing the canals out by deckers..

Honestly, I think I'm going to fish the flint river a little more before I give up and kamikaze the SCR haha

If I had that little boat I would launch it at riverside drive oppisite side of water street and upstream.Ride the black river north till you get in the old bakers field airport. Then enter the canal right there and start fishing from there out to the mouth where the lake is.You can catch a smorgasboard of fish there.

Thanks a ton! That sounds like a real good idea to explore up that way.. and definitely a safe one.
From what I can see on google earth, I'm assuming the canal you are talking about is the one that goes from lk huron to the black river.. is this the canal you're talking about?
Also it looks like there's a lot of spots on the black river itself to try (rock piles, smaller canals, etc)

I haven't tried to get down there yet, obviously, but i think i've taken a liking to the flint river.. but maybe if i don't use this info, someone else on here will.. thanks again!

Yes and you can catch lots of northerns, catfish, and panfish from the Black right now.Probaly Notherns in the canal also but tons of smallies.
