Just a quick question for the users
I just picked up the chip for my LMS 527 and tried it over the weekend. It gives pretty good contours in the channels, but won't give bouy numbers, like the Lowrance pre-loaded info (or my other chip made with Map-Create)
Am I missing something?

I can't remember off hand....But it may not give the bouy #'s at all.....I never really paid much attention to that fact!

Thanks
I might just pick up the Navionics as well

Move your cursor over the buoy to get the number;)

:yeahthat:
this is the chip I use. if I need to know a bouy I just use my curser.
my budy has a navionics chip. he likes my chip better. plus you need multipule chips versus 1 chip that covers the hole state.

I tried that at the head of the dumps and all it gave me was Lk St.Clair Bouy and the position. Hell, I already knew that...lol

Just FYI...
The best Navionics chart for MI anglers from my knowledge is the HotMaps Premium, either E or N (Michigan info the same on both) unless you are downrigging well offshore in the deeper waters of the GR Lakes. HotMaps Prem N or E covers Sag Bay, Lk St CLair, Big and Little Bay De Noc (surveyd last year and on the 08 vs of the chart) and most of the near shore Great Lakes, plus has most of the reefs on Lk Erie in 1' increments. Plus, it covers all the inland survey lakes, which for 08 was 62 HD lakes, plus 2200+ regular DNR lakes.
I am betting the chart that the above user is running is the Gold+ Great Lakes or a little older version called East Great Lakes 901. It only covers the offshore info with no inland lakes.
There is a Trade-In value to all the Navioncis charts, too, so you can get some $$ back if you buy a new one. see this url: http://www.navionics.com/DealerTradeInSave.asp

The company that makes the Lakemaster chip now sells there surveys to Navionics.....that is why the new Navionics chip is better and has more info on inland lakes!! I have the Lakemaster chip but I also want to get the better Navionics chip to use in Erie for the walleye fishing there!!

The borders aren't on there either. Kinda frustrating having to switch chips to see how close I am

That sounds screwy. Borders are on mine for LSC,SCR,DR and Erie

Houghton Laker:
Hate to bust your bubble, but Navionics has its own boats and does not buy info from Lakemaster. Likewise, they do not buy HD survey info from us, either. Any HD lake we have on our charts that is a 'Survey' lake is info we have developed using our own survey boats, as well as info we have deleloped from other sources to add info the the survey data.
As Lakemaster is great competition, we do not share info for our lakes.
That said, many of the non-survey lakes info that we at Navionics have is based on various GIS data as well as DNR and private sources that can be found and/or purchased on the open market. I am not privy where Lakemaster gets their data, but since the non survey lakes info is public domain, there may be some similarites in the info.
I mean, structure is structure.
;-)
Hope this clarifies things.

Larry,
This is the information listed on some of the sites selling your maps.
"The Best Detail--including Navionics exclusive high-definition lake maps, plus all the most popular lakes from leading public and private sources including: FHS, LakeMaster and more."
False info out there?
I'm looking to purchse a H2O C and still trying to figure out which map chip.
Thanks in advance.

Same thing I read.....that in some of the inland lakes they used Lakemaster and other sources for some of there chartings!!

Good point. The survey info, the bathymetric info, is ours and is developed by our own boats, thus the wording 'Navionics Exclusive'. The info we buy from public and private sources is used for the regular definition lakes and to enhance many the charts. This includes Fishing HotSpots, Lakemaster, and DNR info. Mabe I didn't make that clear. My bad if I didn't explain that better.
We have used FHS, Lakemaster, & DNR info since we started making electronic charts, but have found the best way to get the bathy details is to survey the water ourselves.
My suggestion for buying a chart for your H2O is to go to your favorite retailer and have them put both charts in the H20. Most have a chart to use as a semo. If not, call me and I'll meet you sometime and you can use mine.
Both charts have their good points and the best one for you is the one like and the one that YOU feel works the best for you. Lakemaster makes a great chart. So do we. The best thing you can do is look at both and you make the call.

Does the Navionics Gold chip provide State and International borders, along with bouy # in areas like Lake St Clair/ Detroit River/ Lake Erie?
I have run the Lakemaster chip in some areas where there's hardly ANY detail as far as mapping deeper slots in cuts and canals (around Harsens Island/Muskamoot Bay) where such detail seems vital. Would the Navionics chip provide that?

Shoeman,
My suggestion is to look seriously at the HotMaps Premium North or East. It'll save you at least 50 bucks over the Gold+ 14XG Great Lakes Chart. The 08 will be indicated by the nubmer 4, 07 (less expensive) by the #3.
This chart, while it will not cover the whole Great Lakes, does cover St Clair including the channels, Sag Bay, West Basin of Erie (1' increments on many of the reefs) and Munoscong Bay (been there done that....lot's of nice northerns but that was over 10 years ago).
Get me a couple of lat/long points and I'll send you a couple of chart cuts of the areas so you can see them.
Or most of the retailers in MI usually have a demo so you can see. If not, let me know.

L carr...what is the difference in the 08' compared to the 07'.......One thing nice with the Navionics chip is it will cover Erie like stated......the Lakemaster is just Michigan!! Also.....I know on the 06' Navionics premium Hotmaps chip it was still the Old mapping for Houghton Lake......That is why I went with Lakemaster.....has anything changed or have you Re-Surveyed it recently???? Thanks!!! I may be looking at adding either the 07' or 08' Hotmaps premium chip to my collection!!;)

Hii Larry
Thanks for the response. I'd like to compare both the "Gold" and the Hot Maps for the following area. I take short-cuts through there and the Lakemaster just shows 1' depth when indeed most of it is over 10'
If you could pan it out to 1/2-1 mile and show the detail of both (HM/Gold)
42.34.40 82.40.38
Another spot for detail
42.33.26 82.41.20
Like mentioned above, I'm not impressed with the Lakemaster, although it does include a wealth of Inland waters I use, so it's not a total waste, but for navigating Lake St.Clair it's a joke without bouy #'s (when panned out to 1-4 miles the bouys appear as net stakes...lol) and lack of borders for us that won't spring for Canadian licenses :gaga:
Thanks again!!!

Excellant question.
The 08 has more standard lakes and more HD (Survey Lakes).
You can pick up a Navionics catalog that lists the HD lakes at about any Navionics retailer, and the lakes on the list that have an asterisk indicate the new for 08 HD lakes. If your fav retailer doesn't have any catalogs, PM me with your address and I'll have one sent to you.
Houghton and Higgins were surveyed in 2006 and are on the 07 and 08 charts in HD.
I fish Erie a lot, and those 1' increments on the reefs are huge in the spring and fall. It is something that, as Lake Erie angler, I find is a huge bonus. Plus Sag Bay in NOAA details, Big and Little Bay De Noc in HD (surveyed last year and on the 08 chart) and Lake St Clair (NOAA), plus the near shore in NOAA detail of a lot of the US Great Lakes shoreline for the North part or East part depending on the N chart or the E. Best thing is MI on both the N and E so depending on where you spend most of your angling...MN WI MI or MI, OH, KY TN.
And that doesn't even include the new Platinum 3D stuff. That's enough talk...let's go fish.

Ok guys seriously I'm going to check my chip when I get back to my boat next week. I have a lakemaster chip in my eagle 480 combo. I beleive it's a lakemaster pro? It has all these things you are saying that yours doesn't. It's about 2 years old. I'll get the exact model # and post it. Has buoy numbers, all boundaries, island names and covers the western half of Erie up to about 1/2 way between Whealtley and Erieau. It does not have 1 foot increments of Erie though. Nothing against Navionics, I'm sure it's a fine chip, just baffled how your chips are missing so much. Reason I went with lakemaster is it covered Lk Mi, Huron, stclair system and western erie for a far less price than Navionics.

tga,
Mine has Island and Cut names, but no detail to the cuts. I contacted Lowrance in order to see if I need to "turn on" features like on the Map-Create, although I can't find a menu for it.
No response so far

No Bay of Quinte, that is on the Canadian version.
I just bought the Lake Maps Premium 08 East for my Humminbird. Pretty damn amazing, all the inland lakes, the HD lakes are as advertised. There are even some pretty small lakes on there I fish that rarely show up on maps. http://www.navionics.com/Premium07LakeList.asp?RegionID=3
Plus if you do not see a lake you want on it, you can request it through their website, http://www.navionics.com/FavoriteLakes.asp
