If it came down to one it would have to be a Kelly's Pierboy or Striper in Black w/red dot. Rubber worms have always been a producer for me and the Pierboy and Stipers with the hook in the end of the tail has tagged more than one bass for us! :D

Blue Fox Vibrax foxtail #109 Golden Shiner, very versitile, you can fish them fast and slow and you can catch almost any species on them from Dog Fish, perch, walleye, bass, small mouth, you name it, I have even caught blue gill on them before.

If this is just for bass your making my decision hard. A Size 5 Black/Silver Floating Rapala is hard to beat but a Twister on a 1/4jig head is also a great bait. - Bryon

Ditto....

Works in the spring over flats, summer over weed beds, and fall up shallow....

Spinnerbait here too. Deep, shallow, fast, slow. You can pretty much cover every bit of the water column. Not many other baits can do that except maybe for a plain jig and grub combo.

Any green pumpkin worm, wacky style, fished as slow as possible.

Since it has to be the only bait, regardless of conditions, I would get a bit more specific:
3/8oz, Chartreuse/White skirt, tandem blades w/ gold willow and white Colorado. Good flash for clear water, with enough color and vibration to help in stained/muddy water. Big enough for largemouth, small enough for smallmouth. Willow/Colorado combo works well in both rivers and lakes.

It would have to be a topwater lure, not because it is the best
but it is the most fun way to catch them imo.
The explosion when they hit it is awsome!

Watermelon Senko - because I could use it t-rigged, wacky, or drop-shotted to fit the conditions.

The almighty white on white spinnerbait w' a single chrome Colorado blade, not too big, not too small. Not only is it good for bass, it also catches good fish.

also agree on the white spinnerbait, not a huge one either. sometimes the double willow blades make the overall presentation a bit large, especially if it the only bait i would use for the rest of my fishing.

(also i could catch some pike with it  )

Smoke pearl or green top white bottom YUMS, 5 or 6 inch. I have used everything that has been posted and there is nothing even close to the yums rig wacky.
