use a fixed 3 blade broadhead, lots of outfitters do not recommend expandebles because of penetration.

like mentioned...stick with fixed blade, and most outfitters will not allow mechanicals.

Man I love this site!!!! Thanks for all the good information, I was actually going to use mechanical broadheads for bear. Our season starts on the 8th of Sept, this gives me some time to find a good fixed blade set-up...Any suggestions?

I personally would use a Montec if I were bear hunting. Of course then again I'd use a Montec for darn near everything.:D:D

Thanks again..I had a look at their products , now I will try to find a supplier in my location. If not I'll just order some from Bass Pro.

Can't beat a Magnus Cut On Contact broadhead.
Stingers are great, BTW!

Ok I have to throw a vote out there for the Rage 2 blade. I shot a bear with this broadhead this last may. I got a passthrough through the shoulder muscles only pulling 58lbs. At 70 lbs you will have no problem blowing through a nice size bear. The fur is so thick you will want something that will leave a big whole because the fur will soak up most blood and will hardly leave a blood trail. This is the only bear I shot with a bow and would not hesitate to use the same setup again.

Me too Montec G5. If I were tree stand hunting I would go up to 125's if not I think I would stick with my 100's.

what head do you shoot right now?

if you are going to bear hunt with a bow i suggest getting ralph and vicki's video

Bear N Down... awesome video.... he uses spitfires on a couple of the bears and they pile up... but he was also using thuderheads too i believe....

my bow is set at 65 #s and with deer i always get pass throughs... bear have a bit more hide but im not too worried because most of my deer i shoot are out to 30-40 yards... i dont plan on shooting near that far for my bear... just dont feel confident shooting at an animal that i have never shot at before... when i was 12 i didnt start shooting at deer that far... i waited till they were 15-20 yards max... plan on doing the same for bear... so my spitfires with a 1.5 in cutting diameter will do a lot better than a small fix blade... as lungbuster said you want a big hole in the bear to get some good blood because they have a lot of hair.....

just because people are suggesting different heads doesnt mean you HAVE to listen to them... watch some hunting videos or talk with some people who have ACTUALLY SHOT BEAR...before.... i hate when i always hear.. this outfitter doesnt like mechanicals and blah blah blah... its probably the same type of guys on here that have always shot them down because they hit a deer too far back or whatever and blamed it on the head.... thats just my opinion of course.....

i have never shot a bear before so i cant give you first hand advice.... im just saying check out your options before you take advice from other people....im sure any head will work if you put it in the heart/lugs... but i want a good blood trail.....

GOOD LUCK TO YOU... and ill report back on what the spitfires do....

im telling you though.. check out the Bear N Down videos.... i watched video 4 and loved it and i am in the process of watching video 7... all bow kills

We use Innerloc EXP Expandables and have killed several bear and have never had any issues with penetration.. If you guys want I can put a link to a video up showing the broadhead passing thru the bear and then through about a 5" Diameter log and sticking a couple inches out the other side..

Let me know!

Craig (Hunterhawk)... Your Fired!!

I've shot four with 100 grain three bladed muzzy, none went more than 40-50 yards. Saw two of them drop.

I stay with the tried and proven Muzzy 125 3Blade. In my opinion the best built non=cut on contact fixed blade out there..but then again, when the tips are brand new...they could be considered cut on contact...lol
