I think your in close choice will pay off! Get out early and run glow Js and some glow spoons with some dipsy action early and the fish will be in close if the NW wind pushes in more cold water.

As it is going to be bright it will be a choice to fish in the deeper water when it gets bright or try to find the river water.

I'm figuring you are going to find fish in shallow pretty good. We're going to be fishing out of Muskegon the next few days and I figure we will start in 60 - 65 FOW North of Muskegon and work out towards 100. You might want to run south towards Duck Lake and try out there.

Good luck. Fish on!

I will be out of Whitehall tomorrow morning for a few hours. I will post back when we get done. The last few trips I havent had to go deeper than 100 FOW.

I'm not sure how you are determining the water nearshore is cold...it is still relatively warm. Sustained east winds can change that and put fish in front of the pierheads, but otherwise, you might want to head out a mile or two to find the fish.

Gents - I mated a charter this morning out of Muskegon - 10 for 15 by 8:15 AM (1 throwback for 3 man limit). North of Muskegon in 65 to 80 FOW. Down temp was 48 to 42 F at 50 foot down - that is the cold water I'm talking about. Huge scumline that we trolled across several times. Moonshine glows and SD fly combos took 9 of the 10 on riggers and dispies - other was a Tomic green w/ black ladderback off a full core.

Riggers were hot from 35 to 65 down. Dipsies were mag ring 150 to 175 back on 2. I think we had 3 doubles and 3 fish that were 15 to 18 lbs. A few smaller ones also. Great fishing and there were 2-3 ft waves and it sounds like it will be building later today and tonight.

Good luck!

The cold water must have slid in after 6PM yesterday. I was straight out of Whitehall last night & I had 51 degree water at the probe which was down 68' in 88 FOW.

Down temps were in the high 50's/low 60's in the 40-60 FOW range.

I packed it in early going in with an empty cooler after I heard the NOAA small craft warning come on the air. Very lumpy & confused 2-3' seas with 10+ mph winds from the SW.

NOAA surface temp satellite today still shows 70 degree surface temps.

Went out of Whitehall this morning. Marked alot of fish between 40 and 50 FOW. The 74 degree service temp led me to believe I should start a little deeper. That was my mistake as my partner wanted to set up right there. We headed out to 60 FOW and saw no temp change so we set up and trolled west. At 90 FOW we turned back east and took our first and only miss in 58'. Dipsey set on 3 100' back blue bubble spinnie/blue bubble fly. Stayed between 40 and 55 FOW and ended up 6/7 by 8 am. All fish were on either the riggers 30 down or the above mentioned dipsey. Water was actually cooling by the time we came in. Surface temp was 72.4 on the surface in 40 FOW.

Dipsey set on 3 100' back blue bubble spinnie/blue bubble fly 1/2
DR 30' down green scaley J-plug 3/3
DR 30' down flounder pounder moonshine 2/2

Well we did really well when we there. We boated 35 fish in 3 days with 3 guys . Saturday we boated 4. Sunday we boated 9 kings. 6 of them between 12 and 16 pounds. Mondaymorning we boated 12 fish 9 kings, 2 coho and 1 laker. Took the wife out monday night for the her first time on the big lake. We boated 4 fish 1 laker, one steelhead and 2 kings. One 14 and one 16 all in a 1 1/2 hours. Could have coaught more but had to get home to the babe. Wife caught them all and now she wants to go again. (Good reason for a new boat in the spring). Monday we caught 6. 2 kings 2 cohos and 2 steelhead. Had to pack the camper up on Monday and be out of the campground by 12 or we could have fished longer. Will post pics when I get them up on the computer. THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS.

Sorry for the lack of a reply - I did not follow this thread - we were fishing say 3 miles to 5 miles north of Mkg (still south of Duck Lake) in 55 to 90 FOW for the last week or so (except when in Combat mode on Tuesday PM).

Sat I did a trip on my boat and then I mated on a charter and went 18 for 22 overall. Pearl Tomics on riggers early and 10" SD mirage fly 150 back on dipsies in the evening were the studs. If we could have got the cores going we would have had limits each time out (3 in AM - 8 fish and 4 in PM - 10 fish). Only 1 fish on cores all day!!

The surface water temp came up a bit from the SAT AM trip to the PM trip sending (from 54 to 62) them out a bit to 90 FOW but there will still be fish hanging in 50 to 60 at low light times. I heard the pack out front in Mkg did good for the first few hours too if you can handle the boats. We preferred to go away from the pack so we could run cores. Actually alot less boats than I expected after the combat fishing during mid week.

Good luck and good fishing!!

Fish Muskegon on sat. morning. Got out late, 0630. passed the crazyness near the arms and went out to 60 ft. and set up. ran a NW troll and only picked one up at about 85 ft. fish came on a half core, with a green SD and a mt. Dew fly. packed it up about 10:30 and guys were talking about 120 FOW and doing well.

Can we really believe what we hear on the radio???
