From today's Detroit News:

Good luck Joel!

Tigers name Zumaya closer

Tom Gage / The Detroit News

CHICAGO -- It might last one game, it could last longer and, who knows, if he pitches well it could be permanent but Joel Zumaya was moved to the closer's role for the Tigers' game Tuesday night against the White Sox.
"If we have a lead in the ninth inning, that's who will pitch," manager Jim Leyland said, after finding out that Zumaya's recurring arm discomfort is no longer an issue.
"He's fine."
Zumaya might not be the Tigers' only closer, though. When asked if he would still use Fernando Rodney in the closer's role, Leyland replied: "Sometimes. It could also be (Kyle) Farnsworth."
At the head of the list for the opener of the White Sox series, however, was Zumaya.

Senor Smokes seems like a smart guy but I don't get this. There is no one on the roster right now who deserves to be named "the closer".

I'm sure it won't last. Whatever at this point. The worse part is it's just like last season, they're still very much in this thing.

I agree, I'm not sure if anyone in the bullpen even deserves to get paid.

Don't you think he should've learned by now that naming a definitive "closer" is pointless? The only one who could get close to a save is Jones, and he apparently wasn't good enough, either.

The Tigs should go get Scott Mitchell to close. He through everything low and outside to the receivers.

Just read on Tigers.com that Leyland says Farnsworth would be available to close, too. Goody!

I think Jones is our best chance to close games out. He has blown a few this year but look at what the rest of them have done. Not much worse, at least Jones is a proven closer. I guess our only other option is to put Brandon Inge at closer(everybody else had a turn why not??).
Go get 'em Tigers!!
