Got back from up north yesterday and found the old Duo-Craft sitting on the bottom of the canal,Big Bummer!!!!
So we hung a couple of 2x10's over the seawall and parked my van on top of them.
Then we straped a cum-a-long to the 2x10,s with an old seat belt and hooked a rope to the back of the boat.
We then cranked the boat up untill the top of the transom was just at the top of the water.
We then droped in a sump pump and sure enough 2 hrs and a six-pack later she was high and dry!!!
Then I pulled the spark plugs, the plugs on the fule-bowls, the switch-box cover and let the water run out.
Then I cranked her over with all the plugs pulled to clear out the water.
Then I put the spark-plugs and the fule-bowl plugs back in,hooked up the fule line and pumped the ball.
Held the choke button and hit the key,it turned over maybee 3 times and the old 55 fired right up and PURRRRED!!!
Most of my buddys neighbors just looked on in amazement as the 30 year old engine just sat and purrrrred but some of them CHEERED!!!!!
We then went for a nice litle boat ride out by Grassy Island .
Saw 2 guys in a bad-@$$ lund jigging, they said they had 5 fish
Then we pulled the old Duo-Craft out at the fair haven launch.
So now she is sitting on the trailer in my front yard!!!
Oh-Yea almost forgot when we pumped out the boat there was a verry small Smallmouth Bass in the boat so I guess that will be the last fish caught in the Duo-Craft this year!!!!

Tonga,

Sorry to hear your boat sunk but I'm glad to hear she's floatin' again. :)

As far as the 30 year old motor, I've got that one beat. My 40 hp Evinrude is 41 years old !! She still starts up and runs great. I am however having a shift problem with it. I'm in the process right now trying to decide whether or not to resurrect it. Like I said it runs fine but smokes a lot and puts out a fair amount of oil when I run it. I feel guilty polluting the lakes like that. If I can find the money, I might try to find another used motor that's a little YOUNGER . :)
Glad to hear thinks worked out for ya.

Gunrod,

I'm not completely sure but I have a feeling that is was due to an EXCESS amount of water INSIDE the hull. :D :D :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

Yea I think it was due to high humidity, youknow like jpollman said LOL

I think the transom is stating to let go,but I have not finished my investigation yet..

I'm no master of the obvious am I.....:) I walked right into that one.

I thought if it had a leak it would be pretty daring to go for a ride after firing it up and I didn't think we had that much rain to sink it.

Once again I stuck my foot in my mouth and came away with athlete's tongue.:D :D :D
