While fishing the South Branch of the Ausable at Smith Bridge I ran across a crew from the EPA that was electroshocking about a quarter mile upstream. They reported good populations of browns, several in the 15-18 inch range. They found them where we all know they are, under logs and tree structures. I was pitching a streamer and had no success. Red-faced, I left empty handed. They are very difficult to catch this time of year. Water is way down, about 140 CFS, and 62 degrees. Guess I'll just keep trying.

spl49, We ran into a shocking crew from EPA on the upper Manistee in Deward area last week. We watched them shock a 50 yard stretch in which they netted three brown trout, 13 brookies and a lot of sculpins. The only problem is that there was only one legal fish. Most of the trout were under four inches.
