Oh... just my B&R Outlaw rod and Phleuger spinning reel. Only a $200 rig....

Well, we're off to the lake with the camera, mask, and fins this morning. 15' of water and a mark on the GPS is all we have to go with.

Wish me luck.

ya didn't have a bouy you could drop at the exact spot?..gps is nice but with as much as 10 meters away and not knowing which way to search from there..hmmm murky water, weeds...how bout someone with a really good graph to maybe pick up the rig as structure? shoot if ya can watch a jig ya oughta be able to identify a fishing pole..how bout a camera to locate?

Don't worry about it,, just leave it. Here's your chance to go buy something nice,, like a magnesium Stradic and a St. Croix.....:evilsmile

sorry 3 hours was ample opportunity for someone else to do it and they didn't,, I had to......;)

Ahh this has happened to me before. I got lucky, and immediately threw in a jig on another pole, attached was an extra trailer hook, and just ran it along the bottom. Got it within a few casts, I was very relieved.

i just had this happen to me while i was setting the hook on a bass.. lost my grip and fell right in. the bass was still on there. the rod went to the bottom and i could see it sitting there. right before i was about to go and get it, the rod took off UP stream. was mad at first and after awhile i just laughed..

Well 15' is just too deep for me to dive down and look... I can get to the bottom o.k. but can't hold my breath long enough to do any searching... and I was actually surprised at the water clarity... being there in the morning helped a ton I'm sure.

BUT, I have a buddy with scuba gear! Making that phone call in a few minutes!!!

SWEET!!!
If all else fails Mike - you CAN get a 10' hunk of PVC and GLUE an end on it with a hunk of plexiglas in the end....
Poor man's periscope... and you can probably SEE the rest of 5' down (unless you want to join two hunks....)

I'm really surprised you didn't find it!
(YET!)
:fish2:

Most of the murkiness is up top with the warmer water , algae & zooplanKY
critters as Mike has seen....

I used to have 8 matching diawa line counters and poles.....Now I have seven. One come out of a rod holder when someone lifted the net. The net hooked the reel and flopped it right out of the boat. :bloos:

I feel your pain.

Not a rod, But something costly just the same, was at T-rac and opened the rod locker,SPLOOSH, what was that I said, after an extensive search, I realized it was my cell phone! No insurance on it either, DANG-IT, fish be using up my minutes!

Well, my buddy will be scuba diving for it on Sunday afternoon... he pretty much gaurentees he'll find it if I can put him within 25' or so of it... which I can do pretty easily. So, the reel might be a bit waterlogged... but at least I'll have my Outlaw back!!

I almost ... lost my shimano bait caster rig the other night. Probably 150 bucks worth when it was new. Was setting the hook on a hit and the butt of the rod hit the tiller on the motor and it flew out of my hand right into the water next to the boat. I was shocked to say the last when it floated for a second. I reached out and plucked it off the water no worse for wear. Missed the fish but kept my rod :)

do you have a metal decector maybe that will help. Good luck, if we got a cell phone out on the saginaw bay you should be able to get your pole on the softwater. (yea cork handles will float for a while even on the bottom)

Pflueger. :) Hopefully its not in really clear water, if someone else happened to see it on the bottom you might have a PHat chance getting it back. :p

Mike, I'm sure the diver found it but when I lost one on opening day on Kent Lake I got it back a week later. I marked it on the GPS and then when I came back I used my heaviest rod and tied on one of those old metal stringers with the hooks bent open and a few weights attached to it and dragged the bottom. It took about 45 minutes or so but I hooked into it. I don't really like getting wet. :D
Now I keep that stringer in the boat with me.

My cell phone did! My clip sucks and it falls off my pocket every day and i knew of these days it would go into the water and it did Saturday morning. It was in 3ft of water so i got it out. I did end up having the best fishing day fo the year (almost a given on this lake) so it made up for it.

2 days of drying and IT WORKS!

Well, after consuming an entire bottle of air and a fairly thourough search of the bottom we did NOT find it Sunday. But he told me the visibility down at the bottom was about 1 foot in most areas so he could have litterally swam right by the thing and never found it. I am really bummed.

Oh, and even with the diver down flag I could NOT BELIEVE how many boats came withing spitting distance of me... I even yelled at one guy who towed his kids on a tube within 30 feet of my anchored and marked boat!!! He turned around, came right back towards me and my diver to appologize!! Dumb @ss!!! I kept it clean though (kids in the boat and on the tube) and politely informed him what the flag meant and that regardless... he needed to stay 100 feet away from ANY other boat... no exceptions... he was unaware of this law. Well pal... ignorance wouldn't be any sort of condolence for my divers family had you run him over!!! AAGGHH!!! When are we going to start req;uiring boat owners to take a drivers training course before they hit the water??

Aren't you supposed to stay 100 ft away from ANY anchored boat?

I've noticed that people are getting worse and worse with this crap...
I think they should start making everyone take boaters safety in order to drive a boat. Like a drivers license, only for a boat. And the punishment for operating without the license should be the same as driving a car without a license.
IMO boating is more dangerous than driving a car...
But that's just me.

Can I get the GPS coordinates for the rod??? I will return it to you in a few years!

In all seriousness, I keep an old magnetic c.b. base with 30 feet of cord attached on my boat. That works for items up to 5 or so pounds. Also, you can use an old subwoofer magnet. Some of those things weigh in over 15 pounds, I imagine they can pick up anything! I know I have made my share of donations over the years to the lakes.

One funny success story though.......my dad and I went to a spot called "pontoon alley" on Wixom lake around 5 or 6 years ago. When we got back to his house that evening and went to play poker, he realized he had went for a dip with his wallet in his swimsuit. Came back the next day, guessed on the area we thought looked familiar, and his first dive down he came up with it. What luck! Never would have happened to me like that!
