I am new to fishing lake St. clair and have no idea where to fish. Any info as to where some good spots are would be greatly appreciated. I also don't know the lake well. I launch my boat from the place right north of selfridge. Once again Thanks for the info in advance!!

Hey Trick_flow, welcome to the site. I fish LSC quite a bit. Actually we fish different parts of it depending on the season.

What size boat do you have and what do you like to catch? This will determine where we can send you. Just visit this site often enough and you will learn spots very quickly.

I see you live in Wash. twp. we might just be neighbors.

Just don't hesitate to ask questions. This is a very good site with alot of very good guys(with a few exceptions every once in awhile).

Welcome Trick Flow, I fish the lake quite a bit also. Do you have a Canadian license? Your boat size would help too. I do most of my fishing in Canada so I might be able to help you with some spots over there.

I have 16ft boat. As for what I like to fish for, ANYTHING! I just got this boat, which is my first, 2 weeks ago. I am used to fishing from shore and catching nothing, so anything is better than nothing!.

Last Tuesday I caught quite a few Perch about 4 miles SE off Huron Point. The fish were on the smaller side but the action was pretty steady. Straight off 9 mile in approx. 16 fow has been productive also with some jumbos being taken.

Welcom Trick-Flow, I am kind of new here also. Sounds like you are taking your 16 footer out from the ramp at Cotton Road. This time of year do a little homework on the weather before you venture out to far. Wind can be treacherous. Try fishing out toward the North Chanel, look for the sail boat markers, fair perch fishing in that area.

You may even want to drive a little farther and launch at the state ramp by Deckers Landing. From there you can fish all over the area and if looks like it is going to get windy you can scoot back up in the North Channel for safety. Fishing in that area, you may catch anything and everthing. Herd someone took a 20 pound salmon in that area two weeks ago. Lots of perch & walleyes are taken by Grassy Island.

Next weekend is first day of duck season, so the deckers ramp may be jammed.

Good luck, stay safe in that boat and watch the winds!:D

You could just drift with a crawler and catch most anything at any time most anywhere. Go back to prevous posts thru the summer for a crash course. If you are not too familar with the lake I would recommend getting a Hot Spot map of LSC and the SCR. There is some good info along with the map.

I start at Metro in early May for walleyes, then try to follow them thru the summer. Bass and pike will be in shallow early the migrate a little deeper. Musky are available anywhere but may be more abundant in certain spots. Same with perch.

Like I said go back to prev. reports and there is nothing better than just going and learning from experiance.

First off BE CAREFUL This lake can get mean for a small boat. Do not venture far in a 16 footer without consulting the marine weather forcast. Anything much stronger than 10-15 knots and you will have to stay close to shore but thats OK, there is great fishing all along the American shoreline. Try drifting crawler harnesses with a couple of small splitshots. Also I like to drift fish a large shiner over the weedbeds. Lake ST Clair is a great lake to fish and you never know what you might catch.

Thanks for all the info already!! A few more questions though. Where can i get one of those Hot Spot maps? Also where is Decker's Landing?

Bass pro has them along with Gaunder mtn. Deckers is on the North channel. You take Anchor bay drive, which is off M-29 in Fair haven, to the end. There is a launch there. Small launch fits only about 20 cars. Decker landing is actually a Resturant and bar.

welcome

there is also a good launch site of crocker(which is about 14.5 mile id guess)

if you want to fish by metro or the mile roads that might be easier in a smaller boat.

People are friendly on this site and give lots of info for the asking(long as there is not a perch tourny coming up ;) )

and if you can get a radio-you want one in a small boat

and if you are out monitor the radio (68)and see if anyone from the site is on it . If they are you can share on how you are doing and help each other out. I have talked to walleye mike a few times and he has always been helpful and exchange reports.

good luck and enjoy your new toy

Welcome to St Claire---This time of year most anglers are
chasing perch and/or Muskie. Walleye's are more difficult to
locate. I have heard that walleyes have been found in the
middle channel. Jigging/drifting works well---there will be
minimum boat traffic and it can be quite peacful if the wind
doesn't blow.

I have caught Muskie in close to shore off the spillway area.

Look for packs of other boats and you will likely find perch.

Get a current chart to learn the landmarks.

You can launch just south of the spillway (don't remember the
name of the launch site).

You can launch at the mouth of the Clinton River which gives you
a relatively short ride accross to the mouth of the middle channel. Good Luck---hope for a Indian Summer and mild winds...

You might want to consider the fairhaven area. There is a dnr launch at the end of palms rd. BlueWater Bait is right next door. It is a short run to the north channel and grassy areas. Perch fishing will be heating up in that area soon. I ve been too busy with work to get out, hopefully later in the week. I have a 16' runabout with a 50 merc on it and it does fine, just watch the wind, that lake can turn real mean real fast. Oh yea, a marine radio is a must have !!!

There is excellent fishing to be had this time of year straight out from the Selfridge launch. Just head out to the deep weed edge, keep moving along it to the north till you're on fish.
