I recognize that mug, I saw him on TV a week or two ago. I'd love to try it, but haven't a clue about what I'm doing. If I do come would you guys show me the way to catch carp? Would a heavy weight Rhino rod be ok to fish with? It's abou the only thin I have that would pull in a hog like that!

Most of the guys give up there rods so a new guy can bring a fish in, Would be great to see some new faces down there.

Well, I must at least try to make this. It sounds like fun and Ford Lake is like ten minutes from my house. I will bring what I have and see if I can't put it to use. May bring my son (9 years old) if he is interested.

Looks like fun, Kev! :fish:
Calendar marked. I've got a 12 ft surf casting combo and a couple more kid-friendly (not so heavy to lift) 8.5 footers (one spinning, another bait caster that might work if the rig's self-setting) I can bring along, too. I'd probably roll in a bit later ... tend to be out late Saturday nights. :D

Kev, let me know if you need anything in the food department.
I'll be bringing two rods. Also, I'll have a couple flyrods if anyone is interested in trying out.

Family and I are going to be there to check out how other people fish for them. I'm sure there a a hundred different tips and tricks how to catch them. Hopefully the fish will show up too. I'm going to try bobber fishing for them, I used to use mulberries under a bobber years ago and hammered them that way too.

I love fly fishing for carp during the 'mulberry' hatch on the Huron! Nothing like watching a carp rise to your fly and absolutely crush it!

I'm planning to bring along a couple of my long and heavy rods, some leader material, hooks, and basic terminal tackle. Anything else you suggest, Kev, or will we be all set with what you have on hand?
Count me in to have a go at a bit of fly fishing, frogfish.
Looking forward to it -- should be lots of fun, especially if the carp are really cooperative. :fish:

Ive fished carp on ford lake before. Theres lots of them in there, but my question is... what do you do with them once they're caught? Do people really eat carp? How is it prepared?
We put them back to fight another day.
Ford lake park is off of Huron river Drive in Ypsilanti,

Man, it was SLOW yesterday. Or maybe I was slow. I baited up the point a little and fished with a rod. I was there from 10-4, and went 3-10. Could not stick a fish to save my life. Hopefully tommorow will be better.
I'll get you casting in no time, fishinthed! :) Whoever wants to try their hand at flyfishing, let me know. ;)

Just wanted to give a BIG thanks to Andy and Kevin for the carp fishing education yesterday. This was my first introduction to carp fishing. Andy managed a couple of nice fish. I believe the first one was 16lb 4oz! I will post what pictures I have later tonight.

I enjoyed the outing and learned a lot. Great hanging out with everyone and experiencing Euro style carping for a 1st time. Andy was hitting 'em pretty good, at least, and it was cool to see some of the kids get to bring in a few nice ones. :fish:
They did turn on near the picnic tables as the sun went down. Got a couple nice 10+ lb ones then. :fish:
************
But the day ended on a sour note as the Ypsi gestapo tried to steal my car without any warning. I fortunately got to the car just in the nick of time, but they stole the money I had on me. Fine welcome to the park!
What if someone gets injured on the water and their car gets towed while they're incapacitated? I'm definitely calling the city about this money-grabbing policy. Last time I'm taking my car in there for a long, long time, at least until my lost business costs them 1.5 times what this BS cost me.
