Kwame Brown (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3511) is headed back to the Eastern Conference. Brown's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com on Monday night that the former No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft has reached a verbal agreement on a new contract with the Detroit Pistons (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=det). The contract is believed to be a two-year deal worth $8 million, with Brown -- who spent his first four seasons as a pro in Washington after being drafted by then-Wizards president Michael Jordan (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=175) -- holding a player option to return to free agency after this season. Brown earned nearly $9.1 million last season in the final year of his previous three-year deal, which the 26-year-old received in the summer of 2005 in a sign-and-trade from Washington to the Los Angeles Lakers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=lal). Brown's expiring salary was the chief chip that the Lakers used to convince the Memphis Grizzlies (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=mem) to send Pau Gasol (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3513) to L.A. on Feb. 1 in a trade that earned the Grizzlies widespread criticism. Brown played in only 15 games with the Grizzlies after the trade, averaging just 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in under 14 minutes per game. Marc Stein is the senior NBA writer for ESPN.com. This deal better be part of a bigger deal for the Pistons.I can't see paying that kind of money to a scrub!!! If not rank this one up there wtih Darko and Mateen Cleeves.Come on Joe tell me its part of a bigger move, please!!

If Kwame does anything good for this team it will end up being another stereotypical Piston type player that Joe looks for. The "player nobody wanted" type. I don't see it though.

I really hope there's a deal in the works, probably involving Amir or Maxiell. Both Dumars and Curry have said that Amir and Maxiell would get more minutes this year, but there is only so many minutes to go around. Now signing Brown justs takes away minutes from the young guys. Leads me to believe that something else in the works (I hope). But I will say that Brown is a relative bargain at $4M a year.

The same thing he was thinking when he drafted Cleeves,, when he drafted Darko,,, when he let Ben walk to the Bulls, same thing he was thinking when he thought his team was good enough to compete for the Finals this year and didn't make any deadline deals,,,,,,, shall I go on?? What's it gonna take for all the sheep to realize this guy is clueless?? And there is no deal in the works,, Kwame is here to stay and all the other teams don't wanna have anything to do with any of the Stone's scrubs..

I'll still take a clueless GM that can build a team that gets to 6+ straight Conference finals:rolleyes:

i think not breaking the bank to resign ben was one of joes best decisions as a gm, and im pretty sure if you were to ask paxson he would would probably have to agree!

Can't fault him for Ben Wallace thats for sure,Joe saw the righting on the wall with Bens best days behind him.The draft picks are another story:yikes:.I think you will probably see Amire moved in a bigger trade, hopefully Josh Smith from the Hawks!!

Ben sucked before he got here and he sucked after he left. I think it was obvious he was a product of the system,, he played well here and was real comfortable. Once he got moved the wheels came off.
