The video below was recently uploaded to our site showing a nice northern pike caught on a fly. Anyone try this? If so, what wt rod do you use and what type of leader do you use?

I have not caught a pike on my flyrod, but I have caught most everything else. For fish that size I would use between 7-10 wt. (my preference would be a 10 wt with fighting butt) The heavier the rod the more stearing power you have, the lighter your rod the more time you have to fight them but they can run you over and get into log jams and such because you don't have as much control.
I would use 8-10 lb. floro leader, most fly fishing is close so when you see them take the fly and set the hook it is normally hooked near the edge of the jaw. Any type of wire leader would be very hard to cast.
Also if you tie a tube fly the tube protects the first few inches of line when the fish bites.
Hope this helps.

9 to 10wt. because it makes it easier to throw the large, wind resistant flies. I like Tiger wire; you can actually tie knots with it.

That is a good idea, I've never thought of using Tiger wire.

Thanks for the info. I am going to Canada next week and I think I will give this a try. I have a 7wt rod, but will give it a shot and see how it goes before I buy a 10wt.

I have a 7 wt travel rod that I made to go to FL. with me each spring for fishing salt water. It will do fine, but you may like a 10 wt better eventually.
