WOW! I headed out with Gone Fishing and Crew around 5:30am...We were making a trek ACROSS the Pond to Canadian Waters...The winds were KICKIN' and the waves were AWESOME! We were in total Darkness, heading With the waves. At times I would look back and see we were between waves and the wave was 4 foot Higher than John's Outboard! I am SURE there were alot of 7 footers and I felt like we were the Boat in the movie "The Perfect Storm" except we didn't "Roll Over"

As light approched the winds died down some but the lake was real Muddy, and the perch were very picky. We caught our fair share but not enough to be in the Money. Don Jimo won it with 30.3 lbs (50 Perch) I believe...

The Perch Dinner was AWESOME and I met some great people! Nice to finally meet you Dick! We cleaned some fish and mingled til dinner was ready. Here are some pics I took. One was the Coast Guard Helicopter on a Practice run. The rest are from the afterglow...THANKS JOHN I HAD A BLAST! "Cedar Point" in John's Back Yard;)

Well all that pre-fishing and slamming jumbos all week didn't help when the gales of October came. Fished Tues, Wed, Thurs and Friday to prepare for the Dertby and found the big ones on Thurs and they were still there on Friday afternoon. The gale winds on Fri. night turned my honey hole into a mud hole and we couldn't buy a fish there. Made three moves in the area and nothing. I thought there might be some cleaner water father NE but hated to go any farther in the huge waves so we headed West instead. Could only go 10 mph into the waves so it took forever to get back to the US shore only to find that the bite had died out in the 8 and 9 mile area. I had some spots off 9 mile but they were solid mud also. Only clean water was tight to shore and I didn't have any spots in that area so we ended up struggling to find any fish at all. On Friday we stopped at our best spot from Thurs. and took approx. 40 fish in the 10 to 13 inch range in about 30 minutes with 3 people fishing. We didn't want anyone to spot us there so we moved from the area. It was sure tough to leave when your catching fish like that. We thought for sure we would be in the hunt on Saturday but the weather did us in. I'm not sure if those fish are on the move or still holding in the area but we were approx. 2 mile ESE of the weather buoy. Next time out that is where I'll start. Congratulation to the crews of Don Jimo (1st place), Linewinder (2nd place), and Black Jack (3rd place). Only 364 days till we get another shot! ;) Well, after 8 straight days of fishing (3 for Salmon and 5 for Perch), I'm spending the day on the couch. Hope everyone had a good time! Good luck and we'lll see on the pond, John

What a "butt" kicking day, tough conditions, I feel your pain "Gone Fishing". My pal Ken Black fished off of 9 Mile Rd. on Thursday and Friday, his catch on Thursday, 50 fish, almost 32.0 pounds and almost matched it on Friday. Saturday, he got shut out. We were close to his honey hole by daybreak on Saturday at daylight, water was a mess. Probably caught 20 fish in 3.5 hours, they were all slabs, but not enough to play this game.

Cap'n Black probably weighed 20 fish on Saturday, if you are reading this Ken, you should be glad that all those people did not take you up on those side bets, or you would be in the line at the credit union this morning.

Great seeing and meeting all of you guys on Friday and Saturday, it was an awesome turnout. I only listned to one person bitch. Think it had something to do with the 6-8 fish that they had in
their bucket. According to this nit wit it was the worse run, worse perch tournament that he ever participated in. I guess one out of 50 ain't bad. Wanted to give him is $100.00 back, kick him in the ass and send him down the Clinton River, then I checked and found out he did not even place a $10.00 bet on his own boat for the Calcutta. What a loser. Last year we had 27 boats, this year we had 50, must have done something right.

Wish I could have spent more time with nice people with common sense, rather then listening to idiots. Great time, great people, good food and a few cold ones, make for special memories. Unfortunately I was so busy, I took no pictures, so if you have some, send them to me.

Northern-Outdoorsman thanks for posting the pictures, wish I had some more, that's one of my favorite ladies helping me with the prizes (granddaughter). Her only concern today was " Papa, did we raise enough money for Amy", my reply, we did just fine.

Thank the good lord for yours and your familes health, it is a blessing!.

Over & Out;) :p :) :D

Great turn-out. 50 boats, 200 grown men and women chasing those little devils all over the lake & the results are:

1st Place: Don Jimo, Captain Jim, 30.2 pounds. (big bucks)
2nd Place: Linewinder: Captain Larry, 27.6 Pounds. ( medium)
3rd Place: Black Jack: Captain John, 26.6 Pounds. ( not bad)
4th Place: Happy Nets: Captain Don, 25.6 Pounds ( 4 ugly sticks)
5th Place: Pops Yacht: Cap'n Jared, 25.2 Pounds (1 Ugly stick)
6th Place: "She may be right" Capn. Frank 25.2 Pounds ( 1 Ugly Stick).
Largest Perch: Ten Hole, Capn. Rick, 13.3 ", one pound. (cash)

Yours truly, Squat, nothing, zero, nada and all that.

Weather conditions: They sucked big time, 15-20 out of the N.W., along with a lot of other boats who participated, we stayed close to the West Shoreline, water looked like a cup of coffee with cream. For those with the big boats who went across the lake and found some clean water, they caught the biggest fish and got paid.

All in all, we had a good time, if this wind ever lays down and the water cleans up, there are some quality fish to be taken off of 9 mile road in 17 ft. of water. The 40 that we took were all very nice fish, 10" or above.

About 360 people ate fresh perch till we ran out. Every boat won a prize, may not have been the greatest prizes in the world, but who cares, at least they got something.

As to my little pal Amy we raised about $1,200.00 for her a new van lift. To those that gave, thank you, we are not done yet and will see that she is taken care of. Even though the world is a mess, a lot of people show a lot of compassion for those of us in need. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

;)

Would like to extend a special thank you to " Winfield Tackle" for supplying a lot of prizes to us at a great price.

Would also like to thank all of the people who helped me with this event, we caught them, we cleaned them and we ate them and without your help it would not have happened! Thanks are also extended to the webmaster of this site for putting up with us.

Special, extra thanks to all who helped me raise some money for my little pal Amy!

God bless, take care and catch some fish before we ice up!

Over & Out:)   ;)
