do you guys feel bad running your motor earlier than day break on heavily developed lakes?
we went out on chemung this morning looking for walleye, perch, and crappie at 5:30 and i felt alittle like a jerk running my motor that early. i did keep the throttle way down to keep noise levels at a minimum. i figured they would have a noise restriction posted at the launch but couldnt find one, just a 4am earliest launch time.

No. I have a 125 OB on one boat and a 15 OB on the other and neither is very noisy. Also, anyone up that early is fishing so they are not likely to be running all over the lake.

Run it WOT...I live on a lake and never hear anyone running around that early unless I am up already. People will always find things to complain about. Unless you are purposefully being rude, don't think twice.

lol. i have a 25hp kohler lawnmower engine on my mud buddy. that thing sounds... well... like a big a** LOUD lawnmower. i typically run it about 4am on the way to a duck hunting spot. to answer your question.. no, i don't feel bad for people who choose to live too close to public land/water where i hunt and fish :)

If the lake has a no wake time I obey it to the letter. If not it's WOT to my first spot.

I've never thought twice about running my boat in the early morning and I doubt I ever will.

my outboard is small and quiet so this isn't really an issue for me, but on a related note, during the winter one time I recall getting out on the ice around 5am and felt like a total ass after firing up my gas auger and seeing a few lights come on at a couple houses.....I've since reverted back to hand augers since I usually fish so early.

You should only feel like a jerk if you run into a guys dock from your own stupidity.

I fish Devils lake all night a lot...I hear crotch rockets running all night on shore I would find it hard to believe a lake could have a motor noise curfew ...of coarse I am wrong a lot

There is nothing wrong with a little common courtesy.
Bass boats running flat out, four a breast is pretty cool; but NOT AT 6:00 AM SUNDAY MORNING!
Then of course two boats break off fly up in front of the house, chuck lures at the dock yell back-forth to each other then throttle up and rocket down the lake .
6:10 AM the grand kids are now wide awake and the day begins, thanks a lot guys.

how would you feel if you lived on the lake?
I personally like the sound of boats in the morning - it gets me excited. But if you feel that it would bother you if you lived there, then you may want to think twice

I don't know how you could live on lake and be awoke by boats in the morning? I live in the city and hear sirens and trains all the time. I know they are just as busy at night but I don't hear them. I think it is a matter of what you get used to. If you live on a lake then a boat motor should not wake you up. If it does then that is your problem not the fisherman's.

There are some mornings, I am first on the lake, the fog is drifting, a little trolling motor, for quite seems to enhance the atmosphere of the beutiful morning.
Even observing wake rules and such, I feel that I am violating the tranquility and peace and quite, by motoring. Then again WOT is all my gas motor allows, I just turn off the hearing aid, and enjoy the ride  :dizzy:

If I lived on a lake the only thing that would bother me about early morning boat motors on the lake is that it would mean someone beat me out there!! Be first or stay home!!

I live on a lake part time, guys getting out to fish is no big deal. Just don't be out there cutting it up screwing around, the only thing that really ever peeves me off being on the water is jet skiers, running wide open before they are supposed to or after they are supposed to.......I am usually fishing and some guy or gal will come scooting by disrupting prime fishing hours.

Jet skis should be outlawed on any lake that has fish in it. Plain and simple!! Oh, and wake boats too... remember back when we were kids and the object was to throw the SMALLEST wake possible? Ah... the good ole days....

I understand not everyone likes to fish?
And it's not a bad thing. I'd hate to see all them jet ski and skiers out there early in the morning fishing.
But I do like fishing the lakes were there's a no wake till 11:00
It's allmost perfect for both sides.

People also need to learn exactly how far 100 feet is. Seems everyone thinks 50' is the new 100' on some of the lakes I fish.
But I digress....

I live within casting distance of the lake and never have heard boat traffic early, not that it would bother me. But I did go out at 5 yesterday morning and just idled out to where I was fishing, but just after 6 a boat came out and was water skiing. They were very polite and stayed far away from me as I notice most of the experienced skiers will do.

I've had some jet skiiers and "tubers" almost swamp me on a no-wake lake in Holly one time. Real narrow, but long lake, and they just ran wide open from one side to the other. It's maybe 80 yards across and they would run like 40 feet from me. I tried to call the DNR but they were closed :(
Anyway.. I think I'm going to head out to Lake Fenton one day, at 4am when the ramp opens, and just run wide open across the lake to my fishing spot.. just to p**s all the people on the lake off that run all the powerboats and jet skiis.
One time I had some kids water skiing run 20 feet from me while I was anchored. TWICE! Ugh I was so mad! I wanted to put a big treble hook and weight on and cast right to the guy skiing. Lately I've seen the sherrif out on that lake though.. so maybe they are enforcing?

I was just going to say the same thing. I've woken a few people up in my pre-dawn departures, do I feel bad? Not after the first duck hits the water.:D

I live on a lake and outboards you cant really hear them in the house and if you have lived on a lake for a couple years you never notice it.
I run a 60hp Mud Buddy with dual straight pipes. want to talk about loud. good thing were i duck hunt there arent any houses or people would be waking up alot earlier then planned.

Didn't say they woke me up - said I liked to hear the sound in the morning.
the point to my post was follow the old saying of treat others as you would want to be treated and chances are nobody will get too upset
