try fishing on the au sable at the mouth for walleyes and take that little boat up stream and hit the holes, who knows what you might lay into, as for better trout streams, you could try the pine near van etten lake, im for more details if you'd like.

yea ill be heading up this weekend... ill be on the pier at night and into the morn.. im 17 so if youre out their ill be by my self most likely that when i ususally get my walleye so...
i've seen lots of guys with small boats troll out in front of the mouth of the ausable for eyes and the ocasional steelhead. mostly in the evening right at sunset.give that a try and you should also try going up the river too. for the kids i would take them to van etten lk and try to get them on a school of perch, if you find em you won't be fishin you will be busy baiting and taking off fish for the kids:D the perch run a little on the small side but you can usually sort enough for a good meal. talk to the bait store across the street from the launch at the river.they will usually tell you where to launch and where the perch are. good luck

There used to be a LOT of Catfish that would come into the rivermouth after dark. Sometimes right after dark, and sometimes at 2:00AM. Anchoring a nightcrawler to the bottom, or drifting it from the pier was effective. They were actually very good eating.
