Cheboygan Dam Plunge Pool Scheduled for Refilling on Aug. 11
The Department of Natural Resources announced today that the Cheboygan Dam construction project is drawing to a close. The plunge pool is scheduled to be refilled on Monday, Aug. 11, from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
The Cheboygan Dam has been undergoing upgrades and repairs since last fall. The cost for this project is $2,869,707, and is funded with restricted monies from the Michigan State Waterways Fund and the Sport Fish Restoration Program funds.
The public is invited to observe water reentering the completed plunge pool during this time. Although parking is limited, the public can view this from the South Street parking lot, across from the Cheboygan County Fairgrounds.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 30. There is more site work to be done on this project, including some paving, a service road and the placement of more riprap to stabilize the riverbank.
For more information about this project, contact Thomas Paquin, maintenance manager at the Cheboygan Field Office, at 231-627-9011.
The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
