Rifle River Info?

I will be camping near Omer next weekend and would like to do a little fishing on the Rifle River. What can I expect as far as types of fish in the river? Spinning gear or fly gear or both? What types of lures and baits work well.? Thanks for any info you can give.

spiniing gear definitly, not sure how good the fishing is now there? water usualy is shallow. last week in may seen a few steelhead comeout behind the fire barn

Spinning gear for sure. Lots of smallies and some pike too. Nothing to write home about but good enough to pass the time.

fish farther upstream from Lake Ogemaw all the way to rec area. try fishing at or after dark for browns, use mice imitators after dark. If you fish during daylight hours, catch some grasshoppers. They work great this time of year with a split or 2 drifting them, or at dusk on surface.

Took a short float from the Pipeline to Greenwood Rd yesterday and in nearly all the fast shallower water got fish useing a RoosterTail spinner. The posts above are correct about getting upstream, the last half of the float the river was to slow and it got very cloudy from one of the tributaries. In one hole I did a LDR (aka Long Distance Release) of a 15" Brown.
