My 14 year old son caught his 1st big fish flyfishing on a nice honey hole we found in Roscommon County over the week of the 4th. A decent crappie. What was really nice he had made the flies himself with his own design. We also caught some nice gills. What really tourqued him out was when he hooked into a 22" pike later the same evening. The pike won that battle. The papermouth below did not and was enjoyed with pancakes the next morning...

Thats what its all about. My buddies 11 year old came out shooting sporting clays this weekend with us. He only managed to break one with his 20ga but the look on his face was pricless.

good for him! I look forward to taking my little guy fishing in a few years.
I've never caught a crappie on the fly before.
