I've been getting skunked fishing for walleyes in the Detroit River between Ecorse and Grosse Ile. The fishing began to worsen in early September, seems like, and continued until at least last Friday, September 27. What happened? Will there be any of the "Fabulous Fall Fishing" I'm always reading about, but have never experienced? I need some encouragement!

If your trying to fish in the deeper water by the channel , try moving closer to shore .When I fish for smallies later in the season I catch a descent amount of walleyes in the same spots. Usually an hour before and after sunset on minnows, soft plastics and shallow rapalas . I'm usually in 10 to 15 feet of water .

Thanks for the info.
I've tried fishing from the shallower waters to the deepest waters without too much success in September. Early in the Spring and through the Summer, my fishing buddy and I always caught at least a couple of fish. But September has been a loser. I would like to hear from others on this board about whether the fishing will improve any between now and Winter.

The fishing will definitely improve as fall progresses. It really turned on around the first of November last year.

Try the channels in the Lake St Clair. Same methods work there too.

Yeah, I really should give the pond another shot now that the gofast boat legions have been decimated. My 16 foot Lund is often overwhelmed by the zillions of boat wakes on LSC, so I don't like to fish there. One of the fishing mags I subscribe to has just noted that walleyes frequently can be found schooling up at river mouths in the fall, so maybe I'll check out that action at the North Channel near Decker's Landing.
As the water cools into late October, through November, you'll do a lot better at the warmwater river mouths, such as the mud line at the Clinton, The Salt River, Spillways, Belle, etc.

If the fishing gets any better around Marysville I'll have to bring along more people so I can stay out longer. The last 2 Saturdays I had my limit by 10pm. We were the only ones out there so don't tell anyone, it's nice having the river to ourselfs:D . A friend was out Tuesday night and got his limit. Some other friends were drifting this morning and got 6.

Help me out...what is wonderbread and nightstalker again? Are these "stinger spoon" colors, pencil plugs or what? Any size to these fish, and are you gettin em along the channel? I have been hearing similar reports all the way down through St Clair to the mouth of south channel....only after dark though. Tks

Nite Stalker is a Pencil plug, Wonderbread is the color of the lure. Just like the bread packages in the store. Blue, Yellow & Red spots on a white body with Red, Blue, White or Black heads..
I'm thinking of fishing the Canadian side tomorrow night just to see if those Canadian Pickerl still taste as good as or American Walleye :D ................Bob B.

Davedmg,
Homer could not have said it any better.
Some of the best walleye fishing in the Trenton Channel is about the middle of waterfowl season. Give it another week maybe two and let em' rip.
Just make sure you give the waterfowlers a little slack. There is enough water out there for everyone.

Bob,
Don't forget to run a Belgium Flag in with those Wonderbreads.
