To wait for a burger?
I cooked the grandson and myself a hamburger , using nothing but the sun , and it took 1/2 hour to cook. Is that too long? Or would you wait 1/2 hour knowing that you would never have to buy fuel ( propane , charcoal , etc. ) again?
I believe I can make it faster , but what do you think about the 1/2 hour?

Not too long for me! When is the next batch gonna be ready?

Interesting concept, and I applaud your effort, but would recommend that you stick to beef, and avoid trying that with chicken. Too dangerous with the chickies!;)

Well , I can't really say " nothing but the sun ". I was using mirrors. I had water in the bottom of the pan and an oven thermometer to make sure I got it hot enough. The water was boiling and the thermometer said it was 212 degrees in there.
I checked it without water in it and got it to 350 degrees. Plenty hot enough to cook about anything !

"Nothing new under the sun" is a famous expression.

Back in the 60s a friend of my dad had a mirror device that they could use to cook steaks, pork chops or chicken pieces. There was a compartment to hold the meat in the center of the contrapion.

I remember my dad saying that it took a long time to cook a single steak so multiple devices were needed to cook up a Sunday dinner. Plus, it would not cook up anything on a cloudy or hazy day.

Nope not me, I would not wait 1/2 hour. I would have fired up the propane grill and flopped that burger on it. While you were still waiting I would have been done eating by the time yours was done.

Now if I was in a life or death situation. If it was the only way I had to cook the meat. Then yes I would do it this way.

Fully agree. My process: start grill, throw on dead cow, eat, drink more beer.
