Hit the canals of the SCR today in search of some crappies. Had to row the jon boat up river to the Belle. There was a freighter off loading gravel so I had to go around that too, man that river cooks when you are rowing(gettin old). I worked the lower mile of the Belle with no luck other than the mouth. Picked a pigeon out of the river, looked like it was in the water for quite a while, so I had company for the rest of the trip.
Around lunch I moved to another canal system and did quite well on the gills. Still found some on the spawn. Caught a nice largemouth and lost a couple more. Everything on small jigs and bobbers, minnows/crawlers
Here's the line score for the trip:
4 smallies (12-15")
1 pike (20" or so)
Gar pike (20" or so)
Bunch of gills(6-9 1/2")
large mouth (19")
Bunch or rockies
Bunch of 5-7" smerch
and last but most likely to get the most press.................
Channel cat (20")
Managed to stay out of the rain by ducking into covered wells(secret catfish spot) and hiding under bridges, never got seriously wet.

Yeah I saw that freighter there today as well, that river is not slow by any means so I can see why you had to row hard to get to the bell, congrats on the fish..Cya Slick

Sounds like you got a lot Harry. Sorry I couldn't make it, next time you head out we'll see what we can do. Mind if I ask how heavy you go with line when fishing for panfish? - Bryon

Bryon,
I usually fish 4 or 6, depending on where and how. My 4# just wasn't holding up well yesterday, I think it's just old. 6# when I'm pitching lead from shore for perch, just because it's more durable.
Ed,
I've heard about that area, but I didn't make it that far. I used to do well near he mouth(1st mile), but they just weren't there. Some sun might have helped a little. Maybe you can take me along sometime, this was supposed to be a crappie trip, but I didn't hit a single one......bummer! Glad the gills were good to me, very tasty!!

Mike,
Next trip is perch. If we do well, that will be the order of the day. LSC, maybe LH, Sanilac should be busting loose about then if it isn't going already. Looking forward to that. Good luck.

Our place is the best place to be because we are the only thing making money for the company right now and thats parts, no one is buying new so they need parts for there older cars.. Mopar has always been like that when times are tough we have lots of work so I glad for that.. Good luck to those that going thru hard time I feel for ya.. Cya Slick

Of course they are, just like always they start at the bottom, it never makes it to the top, and they get a nice fat bonus for it. Same in my area we are down to 4 employees and 3 bosses. Makes sense that kind of 1 on 1 supervision.
