I don't know about everyone else, but I've been avoiding it like the plague because of the fishflys:lol:. There's nothing I hate doing more with the boat, than to have to clean up fishflys. Friend on the west shore told me that in the mornings, he can't see his boat!
They'll settle down soon. I hope:dizzy:

That lake is not worth wasting your time on. I would fish the Thunder Bay river or Fletchers .

I lived in that area for 24 years and fished on the thunder bay river all the time. There's some good fishing on that river. Hubbard had alot of undersized walleye. You might get lucky and get a jumbo perch once in a while

Admittedly its hard to quit when I get only one keeper.......hardly worth going out anymore really!! With gas prices I might as well just stay on the docks!!

Thats a bold statement about the fishing but whatever.
Ive been up every weekend since start of May. Ive had a good year so far. I love being the only boat at my spots.
Its good to see a post about the lake, the forum has been slow with Hubbard Lake talk.

Does anyone have any info on the Perch fishing in the summer on Hubbard? I know about the September slam that happens but I was wondering if anybody gets them in the summer months, I have tried a couple of times with no success. It almost seems like the perch disappear during the summer only to reappear in the fall and winter. I am already thinking ICE.

They're still there. I've found them in the summer, but wasn't targeting them. It appears that they're schooling up in much deeper water. I find them in depts of 40' to 60' in tight schools, the traditional perch school that looks like a Christmas tree. One area seems to always hold them and that's up in the north end. There's a hump out there that only rises about 3' from the normal bottom level. There's probably a 1/4 acre in the hump. I sometimes mark them there. NOW, the hump is hard to find and isn't on any of the charts. My assumption is that its just too small. I just happened on it by chance years ago and never saved it to GPS.
The deep water is where I believe you'll find them, but it will take some looking on the sonar.
Good luck

The fish flies are starting to die down, I fished sunday and monday, and only saw a few fish fly shucks(the skin of the nymph stage of the fly). As for the fish, I caught a lot of undersized fish, which doesn't bother me, it bodes well for the fishery in the years to come, and is a sign of a self-sustaining fishery.
