Guys,
I am on leave back in my home state of Michigan for ten days of fishing. Here is my unscientific Mecosta county fishing report.
Mecosta and ajoining lakes- Lots of nice bass 12 to 18 inches white spinner bait has been producing well. I have been catching about 15 bass each day.
Martiny Lakes flooding- Lower Evans and Big Evans. I caught 17 Pike today and released them all most were in the 17 to 22 inch range.
If you see a guy in a Red Lund Fisherman with Kansas registration it is me. I can't buy a Walleye strike in this area but everything else is going great.
Good to home.

Welcome home for a while and thanks for the report. I grew up in Big Rapids, but never did much fishing in Mecosta County.

Tom,
So you do not live in Big Rapids anymore? How long are you going to be around and how often do you get to this area?
I am the sports editor at the Pioneer, and we'd love to find someone local that's in the know to do a regular fishing report. Know anyone that might be interested?

I also grew up fishing those lakes and that is a very typical report if you know how to fish! Tri lakes are great for bass and martiny is always great for dink pke! Head east or west to the big water for eyes, there isnt anything worth chasin nearby.....The closest inland eye water I ever found to be consistant was Houghton. Good luck!

My dad lives on Blue Lake, and ive fished it for 40 years myself. My daughter two years ago caught a 27 inch,7 1/2 pound walleye on a hot n tot in 30 feet of water in july. The fish are there they just have to be fished correctly. Down deep in the summer..Ive heard of a local kid on lake mecosta ,who regularly catches big walleye off that lake. Ive taken several 30 inch pike down deep trolling tots and bottom bouncers in the heat of summer also.. So try that...

If you wanna catch 2 in 2 years with many hours logged...go for it.....I like catching 1-5 per outing over the size you mentioned on the west coast or dozens 12" = 31" eyes on the est coast per outing myself.....thats just me, I like fishin but I like catchin too!
