Well everyone seems to say that holloway gets busy during the day..
I was wondering if I'd be able to go out there and catch a few walleyes during the early morning hours.. say 4am-9am? without a lot of boat traffic?
Generally, i get the idea that walleye go shallow to feed.. I was thinking maybe I could troll cranks like xraps or floaters in like 8fow?
I wanna go up to the bay, but I only have a 13ft aluminum and I'm really afraid that I'll be out there and the waves will suddenly kick up and I'll get swamped or capsize...
So I figure holloway is closer, and a safer bet.
Anyway, what do you guys think?

No. 11 original floatingood on a long line in 8 feet of water work good. so 1/4/oz hot n tots 25- 30 ft back. went yesterday in the morning. and traffic was light. you should be fine that early.

You have a good game plan. Another good crank to try, is the Rapala DT (dives -to) series. The DT 6 in the Chart/Purple back color works well on Holloway. Good luck, C-man.

*writes that stuff down* haha i'm headed to wal-mart right now.. gonna buy some new toys probably (definitely)
Also I was wondering if harnesses would work in the shallower water?
I figure just a harness tied to a swivel and a split shot to keep it down a little ways might work.. just to keep it off the bottom.
Also I have a flasher (lowrance fish lo-k-tor) from like when jesus was born so hopefully if I have to mark fish and troll at depth they will be slightly off the bottom so it doesn't just look like noise on the flasher dial haha
Also I might be out there this morning... look for a young guy with a slight beard driving a black 08 colorado pulling a 13' aluminum with a 10 horse honda that says 100 on the side haha
BUT I might not make it out tonight.. who knows.. I'll check the weather when I get back from wally world
Thanks guys and if I go out, I'll post back how I did..

not going today... and wal-mart didn't have **** for rapalas. probably going to hit up gander mtn sometime in the next day or two
plus it's raining right now
so my new game plan is: MAYBE heron or wildwood lake and try to learn to drop shot. I bought some hooks, sinkers, and plastics and I'm gonna see if I can't figure this crap out and score some good C&R fishing

If you're going to pull harnesses on Holloway, take extra crawlers. Cats hit the harnesses more than the eyes it seems.

Me and a buddy went out Saturday, caught about 10 cats between us, all 12-16" in 8-10 fow. Good eating size, I just don't like cleaning them, to much of a hassle. Also pulled 2 in on a Ratt-L-Trap casting for bass.

right on.. i need to get out there. although when i was fishing saginaw bay we got some niiice cats but i don't want to risk it out there with the little boat..
I thought cats were 13" legal for some reason.. but I looked it up and it's 12.
Also I am curious.. is there a 2-line per person rule statewide? I saw something about canada having a 2 line rule on st clair but I thought you are only allowed two lines period... I stuck to that pretty strictly during hardwater season last year. (i know i should ask in the law forum but im lazy.. sorry)

I had some good luck at Valley/Wildwood this past weekend. Most of my fish were caught on spinnerbaits but my friend did just as well with senkos.
Most of my fish were caught in Valley Lake and he caught his when we motored over to wildwood. Nothing that were caught was large but the number of fish we caught was nice.
Valley has some very deep holes (45, 28 and 25) and wildwood maxes out at about 17.
Fishing has been pretty slow at Heron this year, that's why we fished Valley/Wildwood last weekend. So if I was you I'd go there instead of heron.
Good luck and let us know how you do.
PS: If you need the lake contour maps just let me know.

.....from like when jesus was born ....Hey, easy with that, some of us resemble that remark.:16suspect
Also I am curious.. is there a 2-line per person rule statewide? Yes, unless trolling for Trout & Salmon on the Great Lakes only, then you are allowed three rods.

I fish holloway alot, the a.m. hours are the best. Good thinking about stayin off the bay in the 13' too, I've seen that thing get nasty in a hurry, had waves crash over the top of my 25' hardtop before we could get in one time, stuff just comes out of no where up there.

Well perchin, sounds like I'll have to do my homework on the Res. SCR is so frustrating it is getting old. Only 15 min from holloway, just have never done anygood. Just hear about how good people do all the time. With a slow year out in marysville, the freezer is looking pretty scary:eek:

With a 13' boat another good option if your looking around the Holloway area is Mott reservoir. There is some good bass/pike and walleye fishing out there, and none of the pleasure boaters!!!! It is a no wake lake, and a Genesee County parks pass will get you into the launch at both Halloway and Mott........

What road is mott launch off of?

coldwater & genesee rds.

There's actually two launches for Mott Lake. One is west of Belsay Rd off Stanley. This one is gravel and no pass is needed. The other has two entrances. One entrance is off Genesee Rd about 1/2 mile south of the Genesee Rd bridge. The other is on the south side of the lake off Coldwater/Center Road intersection. Coldwater is closed west of Center Rd right now for maintenance.
The problem I'm seeing with Mott Lake this year is the lack of current. Last years rains provided and excellent flow through the lake. Last week when I was riding the bike trails around the lake I went through stepping stone falls. There was NO flow over the main body of the falls, only the east end that is decorated by the P&R.
This time last year I had a freezer full of Eyes...I've only put one 15 incher in the freezer, been really slow. And the Carp are starting to school, making detecting a soft bite frustrating....lol

I lived in Columbiaville and fished Holloway alot. The only place I ever caught Eye's was between the bridges right in town. Troll Hot 'N' Tot's or Rapala's.

No. I'm talking about the 3 bridges right in Columbiaville. Where the reservoir start's forming. The old river channel is very distinct there if you watch your graph. It's a very short stretch to troll but it was alway's productive.
