After goofing around on Google for a few minutes, as best as I can tell some traditional shooters look down their noses at compound shooters in the same way as some compound shooters look down their noses at crossbow shooters.

Apparently there are some traditionalists who believe that compound shooters aren't using real bows.

Interesting.

"My bow doesn't have any cheater parts", Mellinger said. "We refer to compound bows as bows with training wheels".

"A compound bow is a beginners bow. You can tell by the training wheels they put on them. I tried a compound for a few months but had to get rid of it. Somehow a piece of metal with wheels just didn't feel like a bow. I guess I just prefer a traditonal wood bow as it is what I grew up with"

"I call a compound bow a bow with "training wheels" because their is so much technology in them the only thing they have in common with a "true" bow is that they have a string and shoot arrows"

"Just wondering if anyone else here shoots traditional bows. If not, if anyone wants any advice, let me know if you are interested in starting shooting traditional. It is so much more fun than hunting with a compound a.k.a. "training wheels", I even just got some wood arrows called flu flu's for hunting squirrels, birds, etc."

Add training wheels to a bike, it's still a bike.

Add a gun-stock, trigger mechanism and a required safety to a bow and you've got a crossbow.

I do agree that shooting traditional is more fun.

Not according to the OHDNR.

Here is a government definition for you...Ohio defines the a bow as

Longbow or Bow means a device for propelling an arrow by means of limbs, and a string which is hand held, hand drawn, and held in a drawn position by hand or a hand held mechanical release.

And here is how they define crossbow:

Crossbow means a device for propelling an arrow by means of traverse limbs and a string, mounted on a stock at least twenty-five inches in length, and having a working safety.

I don't consider something I enjoy doing, work. Apparently some do.

You'll have to take that argument up with those who are elitests within the traditionalist ranks. They view your compound as not being a real bow, they don't recognize the legitimacy of your choice, and they consider your decision to use a compound as an indication of a lack of character, integrity and work ethic. The basic message they have for you is that you're lazy as demonstrated by your decision to not use a real bow.

Personally, I would never criticize you guys who take the easy route by shooting a compound rather than a recurve or a long bow, using a release instead of shooting fingers, using an illuminated sight pin instead of shooting instinctively, etc. I'm fine with you guys choosing a training wheel bow that requires much less practice and limited commitment. Understand, I'm just sharing with you how they feel about you - please don't confuse their words with mine.

Purposefully posting only to stir dissent, create dissent or to throw stones isn't a very good idea guys.

Even in cagefighting...there are rules;)
