We were out fishing for perch on Muskegon Lake and we were in about 6 feet of water outside of snug harbor headed east along the shore. I'm not sure if that's the area they refer to as Weber road or not. Anywho - we caught some nice perch, but they had a blue tint to them. Their mouths almost look like they got into some blue food coloring and their bodies had an overall green tint to them. I've never seen this before. All I can thing of is it can't be good! Anyone ever witness this before or know what it might be?

Were they definately marked like perch, or could they have been marked like walleye?

No, they were definatly perch. I sure wish I had a camera for when we caught them. We did notice that the blue color had faded a bit when we took them out of the livewell. Very strange.

I just posted a pic to the gallery that is called "blue variation of yellow perch". It happens sometimes and is likely related to diet. I am not sure how to imbed the photo in this message.

I'm not sure if the 'blue perch' is safe to eat or full of toxins lol, but either way that's an awesome looking fish. Cool pic with the side by side comparisons. Now, if only I could find one of those that went 14-16"...that'd be a pretty neat wall hanger...
"What the heck kinda fish is that???" "It's a BLUE perch baby!" :D
