Anyone had any luck on long lake for smallies this year? Went out yesterday....not a bite! The big skunk-o! Any info as to there whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That lake can be frustrating. I was there last night and got skunked but there was three of us, and they didn't seem to want to listen to my suggestions! Anyway, I've only caught smallies on two spots on that lake....on the dropoff south of South Island and in Mickey Lake, attached to Long Lake. I have a hard time catching anything in that lake at times.

I always work spinnerbaits from the boat launch , around by that little lake attached to it, and out to the tip of the big point where the lake turns west. The big sandpoint behind the islands and the shoreline along the south shore by the islands are always good spots. I was out there a week ago and boated close to 15 fish in all size ranges. We are having a huge mayfly hatch up here in Elk Rapids so not sure if it's happening there which always affects their feeding habits for a few days.

Granted with the light winds and clear water in that lake. Yesterday was not the best of days to be out there. There always has to be a good ripple out there to break up that surface clarity . I'd pick a windier day or at least a broken cloud day . Otherwize I head for Leelanau if I'm going to that side of the bay for the day.

The mayfly hatch killed the fishing on duck lake last weekend. Not sure what the scoop is on Long Lake but I do know that walleye fishing had been excellent there as well as South Lake Leelanau.
