Get some of your favorite dough(pizza, bread etc.),small pieces of bread, and cinammon.Work the cinammon into the dough , thicken it up with the pieces of bread, mold it onto the hook,You can try just hooking a piece of bread (crust works too)and gently ease it into the water with slack in the line and watch them eat it and try to hook them, before the bread gets saturated and falls apart, but then it acts like chum.

Wheat bread and peanut butter. Mix to a doughy consistency. Carp cannot resist;)

Shredded Wheat - quick, simple, won't spoil, grow mold, and it makes a good snack if you forgot the chips. Dip it in the water, work it in your hand, and it makes a dough ball that you can mold around the hook. Like Big Daddy Benelli - add your favorite spice, (mine was garlic salt also) but getting the little flavoring bottles at the grocery store and who knows, you could market the next big scent craze. :D

My grand-dad told me about maple & brown sugar instant oatmeal. Pour some in your hand, get it wet so that its thick like dough then mold it to the hook.
I tried this when I was a kid...slayed the carp! Still do to this day.

Good luck!

Strawberry jello and white corn meal...mix the jello with the water then add the cornmeal, and chill in fridge. Takes some experimenting to get the right ratio of cornmeal, too much cornmeal and it comes out like a brick, not enough like mush. Get it right and you can roll it into a ball and form around a treble hook. Works great and will only produce strikes from carp !

just 2 cans of whole kernel corn and garlic salt .

take the 2 cans and put in a jar or container add garlic salt and bam .

Use a small split shot about 4 foot in front of a small salmon egg or steelehead hook and add 2 to 4 pieces of the corn and toss bait into slack water then grab a handful or 2 and chum all around the hook and keep a close eye on the pole shouldnt take long to hook up.

If not shreded wheat chicken blood and garlic salt and a treble hook. Also good for catfish.

Im filming with Michigan out of doors TV show this Thursday, I'm sure you will pickup tips for carp fishing when it airs.

You would be better moving away from dough balls and fish with field corn via a hair rig.

The easiest dough bait for a carp is just plain ole' Shreaded Wheat. Get the big bisquets <-----LOL can't even spell it. Anyway.....just take one and dip it in the water for a few seconds. Then mush it up and it makes a big dough ball. Break off a piece about the size of a marble and stick it on a hook. Squish it on the hook. Ya might think it will fall off but it won't. And don't forget to tie that pole down some how if you are not going to watch it. I was sitting there eating a hotdog one time, and there it went!! I had to run it down, but I caught it, and the fish too!! And heck.... if you get hungry while you are fishing..... you can eat some of the bait!!! Trust me..it works!

I agree with the plain shredded wheat. I have had great luck with it. I have also found that using a treble hook holds the ball on better. Good luck.

They sure do love the juices from my Cope. If i want a little extra flavor I go with Skoal Peach for a Plan B.

If your lookin for a cheap easy bait just go with a can-o-corn. chum bout 1/2-3/4 a can. Put on a split shot and shove all corn on the hook. Throw it in your chum area. Sit back and wait. thats how I use to do it. Now im goin to the grocery store for more then corn to catch carp. they eat better then I do

Dough Balls:
1lb of corn meal (one box)
1/2 cup flour (hold out of mix at this time)
1 1/2 cup sugar
1Teaspoon Brown Sugar
1Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Conbine in Bowl and add slowly
3 drops Yellow food Color
1cup water.
MIX, add Flour slowly until mixture has the consitency of cookie mix.

What I like about this bait, is it will hold up to a long cast and last a couple of weeks in the fridg. We have caught mostly Carp on the Detroit river but the occasional Cat and Sturgeon have been known to take the ball.
This recipe came from a older Ukrainin fella that use to fish in Windsor for the Carp.
